What do you guys think should this be a running series?
Eventide H3000!!!!
So.... Yes 😄
Hell yeah!
Hey Robert how are you doing got a question could u tab out badstreet usa by michael hayes
Do it.
Ok this is officially the only content I will watch on RUclips now.
Wait till you see what I just ordered 🍆
@@RobertBakerGuitar I’m concerned... and interested
@@johnlennon8826 hahahahaha
Same.
I fell into the same hole. What a great hole!
Yes, please do more of these... the nostalgia gives me the feels. As to why those presets are all set to 100% wet; I may be wrong, but I believe the SPX was intended to be studio gear, and therefore they would have been routed to an aux send/return channel to be mixed back into the dry recorded signal. Back in those days you usually set your effects 100% wet and mixed the right amount back in to get the sound you wanted. I still do it that way in my DAW, probably doesn't matter, but I feel like I have better control of the effect that way. I'm sure you know all that already though.
That's EXACTLY why it's set to 100%, this was not sold/marketed as a guitar FX unit but of course could be used as one. I still have my original SPX90, one of the first ones that came into our shop and later on I updated the prom to make it a quieter MK II. I also have an SPX900 which you might want to check out -- it even has distortion, which while actually pretty cool on vocals IIRC was not so hot for guitar. ;)
That is the "correct" way of using an FX send. If you don't have the effect at 100% wet you'll get a doubling of your dry signal which might mess up your levels and make your sound muddier.
I was walking in the pawn shop about a year ago and this guy was pulling an SPX90 out of his trunk, I got it for 30 bucks super deal. 🤘
I got 10 bucks for it! I need a super super deal!
I never used one for guitar. It’s kinda cool now that I hear it. We used it for recording drums
I bought one for 25 in the 90s the rack ear was bent to shit
bro wtf how much was it retail back then
1985 was the year I started listening to music on the radio, and the songs of that year will forever hold a special place in my heart. Take On Me, Money For Nothing, Man In Motion, We Built This City, and *so* many more.
if ya play faster than the speed of light (according to Einstein)
Ya go back in time - and end up in the 80's
With our big hair
Jackets with fringes
Stretch pants
Mascara
Choreographed kicking!
Keep this series going this is exactly what I wanted
YES!
SPX 90! Nice. I was working as a designer at Yamaha at the time and had access to all this great gear before it came out.
That's amazing!!!
I have a Yamaha GEP 50 . What's the difference ? Also where can I get a foot pedal to change channels because I can't find the one that I used to have for it.
ADA MP1 pre amp!
Holy Grail of the 80s
I had one ... bought one when they came out in 88 ... wish I still had it
Also the ADA MP2 was even better with it's noise gate. Had both and they were AWESOME...
LOVE IT! Spread the rack joy!!!!!
Ahhh... the memories... Two SPX90's for delays/efx and a REV7 for reverb in the FOH rack and you had it all as a live mix engineer in the late '80's... Good times.!!
Just when I think to myself, I'm good. I dont need anymore gear, Rob puts out a video and makes me rethink my decision.
Rockman would be just a cool thing in general to demo
I was a FOH engineer from the early 80's to around 2007 and I had 3 SPX90's in my rack. I still have two. There is a memory battery that is soldered to the board. If the changes you are making to the parameters go back to default preset settings whenever you switch back to a preset you edited you need to change the battery and the last changes made will be recalled when you return to a preset. The unit may be a little noisy but the effects are phenomenal.
Love this series. But I think you should just do a "Back to the [insert decade]" series. That way you can explore gear from all decades!
Since I was a teenager in the 80's brings me back to some good old days.
That intro was considered as the definition of badass back in the 80s
I pulled my old Rockman last week. all i can say is...WOW....
Rockman was, & always will be, Awesome!!!!
Rockman Sustainor .... had that too
Boston and Def Lep in a box
Can you do a review of some 80's spandex?
Thats the season finale.
Yes LMAO!
I might have a pair somewhere in my stuff
That never went out style. They call yoga pants or leggings now 😆
Robert, yes, let's have this as a series!! The 80's is about the only music/songs I wanna learn now.
Digitech rack line was huge back then. DSPs, ISP33, Twin Tubes, the list goes on. ART's stuff also had a good share of followers. And yes, Rocktron ruled.
Symphonic was a classic just like the unit. I still have an SPX90II in my outboard rack here.
SPX 90's were the shit. Buying one new back then, they were spendy. I ran into an old drummer friend about 10 yrs. ago and he bought mine for $200 then with a broken input level knob. You could use them for everything! Used mine for stereo delay for vocals. But when I used it for guitar...OMG! Opened up all kind of doors! Cool effect even nowadays!😁👍🤘
When you find enough 80s gear you should do a 80s rig rundown of what you would of used if it was like '87
YES!!! I strongly support this series! Those tones are fire dude 🔥
Yes!
I’m seeing this 2 years after it was created, but would like to see more retro 80’s gear featured :)
I keep my old Alesis Midiverb II just for these great type of 80's effects :D
I’m looking for one of those!
Those were great ... MIDI’d it with my MP-1
99 preset One of these days bass delay! That unit and my Tascam Porta 2 gave me a decade of production.
Got that Andy Taylor thing going right in the beg. The SPX90 and Andy Taylor have something very unique. The sound guy who programmed the snare sound for addicted to love was Andy Taylor's monitor guy. I worked at a studio that replaced their REV7 while I was there in 85 with 8the tiny half the size of a SPX90 when it hit the street we were all in love. I left the studio to do live sound and the SPX was in my rider contract. Great unit glad you used it. Truly a part of 80's history. Thank you!
.
Dude that intro! Seriously was wicked. And totally needing to be a series!
Thanks for posting! I just picked up my SPX90 yesterday and loving it.
More please!! Yes I would love for you to keep this series going! Brings back a LOT of memories.
Oh absolutely. 80's and 90's were FULL of awesome tones and I for one would to see and hear about the gear that was used.
Beautiful playing as always!
I love have to you look like you were having a blast. Like a kid discovering new things for the first time.
Robert, great video!!! Love the “Back to the 80’s” idea. This unit should inspire you to get the 80’s course out to us. Keep the vids coming.
Totally rad video! Keep them coming.
You make it. We will watch it. We love us some 80’s
I have one of those somewhere. It was my older brothers. He let me have it in like 1995 when he first started teaching me to play, and I hated that thing. Now I have to go and dig it up.
Your playing and your gear bring me here.
Dude you have to keep doing this series. Love all the 80's gear and sound.
Great idea, Robert! I love these sounds too. ADA, Lexicon, Alesis, Rockman, Roland--can't wait!
Definitely make this a regular weekly style of video !!! I love the 80's gear & the sounds !!! Keep it coming , Robert !! Great video !!!
Definitely make a series of these videos.brought back so many memories of just kick butt tones.awesome.
That miracle man riff is so good
Bro ... like ... that’s what I needed !! The 80’s !!!! Whoooooo ! Awsome vid as always
Thanks for taking us down the rabbit hole with you!! 🤘🤘
Keep this series going for sure
I love this! Subscribed.
That was awesome !!!!
Keep it going !!
That so takes me back, love it.
the 80s, great time for music
Very cool! Please add more of this 80's style...thank you and take care
Absolutely love this!!
That first solo sound was just perfect.
Perfect
this series is a necessity, my man. please keep it going!!!! 🔥🔥🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
So fun!! Thanks for making these
Yes this should absolutely be a series!! great video man love it. might buy one of these haha
I bought an 83 Yamaha SG1000 last week. Love it!
Yes keep doing this. I love 80s
Digging your channel more all the time. Keep playing what you play and bringing what you bring.
ada mp1 is the sound of 80s hair metal.
*Wink wink*
That was the first thing I thought of when he mentioned old 80’s gear.
Full disclosure, one of my favorite pieces of gear is my 80’s Randall 4x12 slant cab 😆😆🤘
Everybody in sf bought those go 250ml amps for a minute back then. I kept cranking my music man and still do.
If you have the ADA gear, I'm curious to hear why people used it.
You are bringing back memories for me.
Keep the 80's series going.. love it
Yes, I love this idea! There are a few pieces of gear I had in late 80s/early 90s I wish I could get back.
That was fast just like your playing!! Thank you Robert i will check it out!!
Yes! More 80's gear!!
Great idea for a series Robert, anything 80's will rock. I love Reverb and i know you do so more Reverb would be tasty.
Killer video Robert! The intro had me two steppin with shades on
Still have my SPX 90sitting in my rack above my ADA MP-1 and Alesis Quardraverb. Does't get used that much anymore but it's fun to plug in and jump into the wayback machine from time to time.
Ahh yes! I love it. Winger riffage... could it get any better in the 80s? Love it, Robert. In my 80s years (when I was in a glam band 10 years ago) I achieved my sounds with tc electronic gmajor - detune effect, delay and reverb. Cheers!
Your intros just keep getting better and better Robert!
I have used one of these too and I agree it does sound good! Yes, every time I load a patch it is 100% wet too.
Reb Beach Cutting Loose. Respect.
I have the old Boss mini rack fix. Almost the whole set!!
I believe it's on 100% because in the studio normally it would be on some sort of effect send or bus so you would be blending it into the channels that you have sent to it...
YES!! Rawk!!! I remember those.
That intro on the Yamaha made me grab my aqua net!!! 🤟🤟🤟
Always wanted one of those back in the day
You are always awesome but this went above and beyond
nice - makes me want to go to the garage and crack open my old case with Korg A3 sitting inside.
Tip : The Yamaha Rev5 has that Symphonic and Chorus in it as well - and can sometimes be had at bargain prices. I got mine 2 years ago for around 150€. It also has a Pre-fx EQ on the front to boot which the SPX lacks. And the reason why the presets are set to 100% mix, is because they were expecting you to use it in a send-return (aux) config.
Right on, so cool, love that retro stuff
The 80 such a strange and cool era
I had one thru the 80’s and loved it. It was noisy and we mainly used it for delays and reverb thru the pa. Sounded great on my guitar too but it quit working in the 90s.
Gees what intro you done buddy! You're among few that really can reach a fully and proper 80's sound, at least on my feed
I love the nod to Reb Beach & this entire video series!
I have an old Yamaha Gep 50 that's almost the same thing. I think I bought it in about 1985 . I'm going to hook it up and use it again. I haven't used it in literally about 30 years.
keep doing the 80's stuff! It kicks ass!
1983 Peavey Bandit 65 and an Ibanez TS9 tube screamer.....some reverb from the amp, & we were playing!!!! No frills.... straight ahead playing. You could cut it, or you couldn't. The reason so many great guitarists came from the '80s.🎸♥️😁😎👍
And an Ibanez Road star 2 single humbucker guitar 🎸.....the good old days!!!!♥️♥️😁🎸😎👍
The intro bro. Like my favorite piece of cinema ever.
Such a nice sounds
Cool Unit! I like Pitch Change C for Clean Landau Detune Sounds
loving all the 80s stuff
Great video. This unit may have been intentionally set to 100% wet so that you could add it to a mixer and blend it via the effects return channels. If you use it in a serial connection then you always have to dial it back and mix between wet and dry in the unit.
Agreed- these things were/are really intended to run parallel with the dry signal, letting the mixer control the exact mix (along with all other effects plugged into the mixer).
Yes, more of this, please
Yeah man, this is a fantastic idea for a series. Run with it!
Amazing playing man!
Lexicon 480L with LARC, Alesis Micro Enhancer, Alesis Midiverb II, Boss RV-2, Boss MZ-2, RRV-10, Boss RDD-10, & Roland JC-77.
This series is such a great idea.. So much so that I bought a SPX 900 (could not find a 90) and a Lexicon MPX 110 ... Rack is back ;-)
YES YES YES - ongoing series please.
And get the crackle guitar all fixed up (or any other 80's guitars you have) to suit the gear you'll be showing us.
