How does neyanban work?
This video is about the organology of the neyanban and the way this musical instrument produces sound. The name of this instrument is neyanban and in the local dialect sometimes called with similar names such as neyanboon, neyanbooneh, hamboon, or even ney.
This instrument is played in the south of Iran and especially in Bushehr.
Neyanban consists of two main parts. Ney and Anban. Ney means a pipe and is made from a specific kind of bamboo, and Anban or Mashk is the bag. The handle is the same as the chanter in the bagpipes.
There are two pipes in the handle, which have six holes in each pipe. Each pair of holes has the same musical sounds.
There are reeds on each pipe that produce the sound. Reeds are called pikak or fikak and are single-reed beating. To tune the instrument, there is a thread on each pikak, which can tune the instrument more accurately by slightly changing the position of the thread...
This video is created to better understand the role of neyanban in the music of Bushehr.

Very educational. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about this unique instrument.
Thank you
hi where can i purchase a good new anban please?
thank you, that is a very interesting video. Could a western understanding of music theory be applied to this instrument, or would a player need to learn persian radif for this instrument?
Thank you, the traditional way to learn this instrument is through oral tradition, but it can also be discussed and analyzed with the help of Western music theory.
Ok great. I would love to try and play one, although I am certain I will be evicted from my appartment if I start learning!
Sorry I accidentally responded with a different account
