Hey, this is just what I needed! I am thinking of buying a boat! :)
I'm a new member and I like what I see. I have crewed on a 60' Gulf Star and love sailing. I'm like a sponge, ready to soak it all in. Lets do it. Thank you.
Great introduction Chief! Look forward to watching you narrate your knowledge and skills.👍🏼
My wife and I have 7 years of boating so far and 5 boats..18 and 22 Trophy walk around, two 27 ft express cruisers and nor a Monterey 23' cuddy.. studied youtube boating the whole time, read books, articles, but can never get enough. Hoping to benefit fron your exp.. Found your #2 cleat video priceless, took all the othwr info ive compiles amd experimented with and summed it up completely.. will be implementing #2 most of the time now! Looking forward to kearning more!
Hey Chief. Just found your channel as I'm sitting in my study. Great channel. You are doing something that is important particularly for the credit card captains. Thank you. Just for background and to help your back, I am an ex-coastie (Lima 56 Cape May 1964-1968 Great Likes. My sea time was on an old YTM 110 (Raritan) out of Milwaukee Wisconsin. I had a civilian career after the CG but kept boating and keeping disciplined logs so I qualified for my 100T ticket on retirement, sail and power and have accrued about 14,000 hours underway time. Still active after 20 years. All this to say that it is fantastic to find a guy who really knows the real world of boats and how it works brought down to common sense. I am watching your episodes like I re-read my rules of the road manual every year to stay up. Your course does that in so many ways. Also, your episode about the mess cook? You were actually nice! Our Chief Sheldon always threatened to assign us guard duty on the mail buoy. I remained an E-3 on Raritan because I was the relief guy and special sea detail when the others took leave. The joke was that I was Robb, SN, YN, QM, BM and CS and was proud of it. I never had time to make QM3 because of all that. Thank you for being the sailor and man you were and are. I honored our chiefs and still hear them talking next to my ear when I'm underway. Always sound advice. Keep the episodes coming. They're like buoys - there always another one just up ahead that needs to be serviced. Fair winds.

Dam David, you got me all Misty! Thank you so much for your kind words and for commenting. In our world, there’s not always a lot of praise and I’m okay with that, I know who I am and I know what I know but it’s always nice when someone acknowledges it. Thank you! I really enjoy making these videos and the process, it fun to learn something new after all these years. Thank you for sharing yours story too. Always nice to have former Coasties around!
I’ve had the opportunity to serve with this fine gentleman, if called upon, I would jump at the chance to work alongside him once again. His knowledge of boating is top shelf. It was my honor to have worked with him.
I'm at a disadvantage, who do I have the pleasure? Thank you for your kind words!
Hi sir, I just found your channel and I’m excited to learn from you. We are new boaters, about four years in. Just upgraded to a new Chaparral in the fall. Surprised to hear you talk about Lake of the Ozarks! We are in Southwest Missouri, and even though Lake of the Ozarks has a lot of fun going on, we boat on more family friendly lakes -Table Rock or mainly Stockton. This is a very windy lake at times, and is very popular for fishing tournaments. We try to steer clear of the fisherman, and try to load and unload as quickly as possible. I usually drop my husband off then trailer the boat myself. I’ve found myself in a pickle a few times, just want to be the bad a$$ wife who knows how to handle the boat. Also want to learn skills to protect our new investment.
Thank You Sir!
I just bought a boat so i can enjoy the waters in the PNW.
I don't know anything about boating and learning on the fly.
Happy I found your RUclips Channel.
Thank you so much for your comment Eric, I truly appreciate it. You're the guy I started this channel for, welcome aboard and let's have some fun. If you would like to give me some feedback or ideas on what you're interested in, please email me at shawn@boattrainingonline.com or call me at 508-509-3146. I'm back working in the jail until my retirement, so if I don't answer the phone - leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks again.
thanks for taking the time to help new boaters like myself
Rich, thank you so much for your comment - I truly appreciate it! This is how I want to close out the last chapter of my life and I hope you will continue to join me. I have about a thousand videos in my head and I hope they will help you.
I’m in for the ride Skipper.
I've been boating for many years now, both sail and power, and everything I know was self-learned, some of it the hard way. I just found your channel and am happily watching every video. It's so nice to have someone with broad experience explain these things. It's like I'm learning all over again, this time with guidance. Thanks so much for making these videos! Cheers.
Gary, thank you so much for your comment! You warm my heart and it humbles me. I hope our paths cross and we might share a cup of coffee and tell each some exaggerated sea stories:)
@@boattrainingonline6561 That would be great. However, it looks like we're on opposite ends of the country. I'm in Washington State but I'll have a cup in your honor, ha.
Thanks Brother! I actually started out near Redding California and we ended up outside Fresno where I joined the Coast Guard. I have a close high school buddy who lives outside Seattle. So, who knows where I’ll end up. Thanks again!
Great intro Shawn! I thought I knew you but I was wrong. Looking forward to watching all your videos. Hopefully I’ll get a boat next year and I’ll be able to use your info to help me. LFG!!🤙🏻
Thank you Aaron! Let me know when you get that boat and we'll run it through it's paces.
@@boattrainingonline6561 yeah buddy! 🫡
Great job Shawn..you might even make a boater out of me😂
I hope your travels bring you to the PNW!
Thank you Russ! I love that area and I hope to get out there soon. I'd want to bring Mary, I know she would love it to.
How about a tour of a Coast Guard ship?
Thank you for your comment! I'm thinking new boaters might like to see how buoys are put on station and a quick tour of a buoy tender, what's your thoughts?
