Best thing in summer: getting up early...really really early...and do a early bike ride when nobody is out there and it's still fresh air around...and on the way back home stop at the friendly bakery to get your breakfast...i just love it...and the sound of the birds!!!amazing!!!

I live in Asturias, in the north of Spain, and here we say: if you don't like the weather, wait half an hour. The weather here is really unstable!

I remember, while stationed in Fulda Germany during the 70's , the town's outdoor swimming pools never opened to the public becase the air temperature was too cold. That was a cool wet Summer!
I come from a super hot, tropical and humid country. During summer our average temperatures are roughly 35-38C degrees and it goes on for months! For me, my fav summer activity was to hangout out in university canteens/mess halls, restaurants, supermarkets and libraries with my friends coz they're all air conditioned. It's just too darn hot to do anything outside. Here in Germany, I hope summer is more tolerable and I could enjoy the outdoors!

I lived in solingen/Düsseldorf/Wuppertal/Berlin in 2001 and rue the day I left the country. I would loved to have stayed and became a German citizen. Much love, my sisters. Alles gute.
Majority of the times we visit Germany, it's during Spring/Summer/Fall and coming from California, there's nothing I hate more than humid and wet HOT days. I like my glue sticky, not my everything on me lol.

Like in Florida and Georgia etc. in summer.... super hot, super humid. Germany is kind of "dry" in comparison to Florida in summer.

You asked about favorite summer activities, which is a great question, I hope to see many interesting insights. It's up to be explored for me in Germany, but knowing myself I would say swimming. And attending curious or just pleasant for me events. If I could ride a bike, probably I'd include that too. I'd be much into getting acquainted with the culture life, but also a careful observant, which is an adventure in its way. (No need to even mention enjoying a beer) 🍻
Thanks for the video! We went to the Fischmarkt in D'dorf yesterday, what fun! So crazy, people still remember how to be in crowds and enjoy it, dancing drinking etc :D it's as if the city was in winter hibernation and now sprung to life

We often had a "Opferteller" sacrificial plate with a piece of meat to keep the wasps busy.
It can be fun to watch them cut a piece and carry it away.

Which are the months of the year with the most precipitation in all of Germany? June and July! (honestly!) So, heatwaves usually occur afterwards, from the end of July to August.
Tip #8: Absent of A/C in your living space, consider "Spanish aeration": Open all windows at night and doors early in the morning, close them completely before it becomes hot, and shut down your roller shutters!

One question since both of you like cycling, how do you deal with bugs/flies on the roads nowadays hahaha i keep stopping to get them off my clothes and helmet 😂😂 any tips for that please? Cheers!
We usually cycle with glasses/sunglasses, to keep the bugs out of our eyes. As for the helmet, we rarely get bugs in them, as the front holes usually have a bug net. And on the clothes, we don't bother while cycling and just pick the small bugs off once we arrive where we wanted to go 😄
At first ... funny video ... and to answer your question my favorite thing during summer is freeclimbing :) ... second some additional tips, one really important not only for germany but for all that travel around the world. Check for your destination the probability of wildfires and restrictions in context with that issue. In germany during very hot and humid summerperiods is high wildfire probabilty too from march to octobre. So if you plan to go into the nature get informed at local tourist office regionally it might have restrictions of open light, smoking etc and even parking your car on grasareas , if the gras is very dry it might ignite or catch fire from the heat of motor. ... just saw your picture of BBQ in the park, especially in towns it is not generally allowed everywhere to make a BBQ that could cost severe fees so check out if it is allowed in that park before there are normally signs at the entrances. And my last tip Officedresscode in summer, if restricted to long clothes try to find some made out of linnen that helped me alot :)
THE BEES!!! There’s so many!!! And everyone is so normal about it!!! I run away every time I see one and everyone looks at me like a crazy person but at this point I don’t care. Also second the music festivals, just went to a huge kpop festival in Frankfurt!

, I used to have picnics with friends am Rhein river but we always left before dusk to avoid the little vampires.
I recommend going to a museum when it's really hot, because then the museum is empty (because everyone else is outside) and there's an AC, too! :)

I really love the way you guys make such natural videos, even correcting each other when needed to do so 😂. I mean that's how we do in real life as well. And yeah AC is not a concept here, but I get it, it's just extreme hot for few weeks maximum so it doesn't make sense to install AC for that purpose, however, the sleep in the AC has another level of excitement, I don't know how to explain but sleeping in AC is really calming. And my fav thing to do in the Summer is same as Jen, BBQ... I live for that, it's amazing. 😍

My favorite thing to do in summer is to hide from the sun, go home and crank the AC :))
My favourite activity in the Summer ... go for a nice hike in the Alps and on the way back to Munich jump into Lake Starnberg for a refreshing swim and take friends to dinner before returning home .... or go for a bike ride into the nearby country side, and/or doing Biergarten-hopping along the Isar ... or I'd love to sit under tree on a hill in the middle of nowhere with an alpine panorama and have a pick nick with friends and then fly my FPV drones/planes over the meadows, lakes and fields and bring the content back home and imagine to be able to fly like in a dream but with my real life footage ... or like yesterday, we rent a single engine plane and fly to places we have never been before, which is not so great for the environment because we can only afford old Cessna planes that are loud stinkers compared to modern planes but it is so much fun and easy to fly and touch the clouds if they are not as high and scattered as they where yesterday. That is some of the things I enjoy on beautiful Summer days.

I live in Hamburg - bought a new house - and these new houses do not have traditional heating system. So we can regulate the temperature between 0 and 37 degrees - electricity is expensive- so got solar but solar is useless between October and April 🤣🤣🤣
Every year, when the the days start getting warmer, there is a small park in the center of my city in Baden-Württemberg, where all the students go to chill in the sun, on the grass and the whole area is just clouded in the smoke and smell of joints.
I had a smile on my face until I read the last 8 words 😅. Sounded cool until the smoke part came into play 😋 -J

Jen a tip from me... exchange your deodorant by a lime, yes.. lime... the fruit
use the lime as a deodorant for a while and you will end up not needing deodorant for a few months.

Hmmmm, schon erstaunlich, dass Ihr Berlin dem Norden zurechnet.... Für mich beginnt der Norden erst nördlich von Hamburg....Aber das ist sicher eher eine Gefühlssache. Für Euch tief im Westen fängt der Norden sicher früher an... Ein Tip zum Thema " Im Sommer ohne Klimaanlage den Büroalltag überstehen": Ich hab' einfach so eine dieser Blumenspritzen neben der Tastatur stehen, und wenn es zu heiß wird, nebele ich mich mit Wasserdunst ein. Das hilft zumindest für einen Moment....

I come from a country in which we only have two-three common types of cheeses: Feta, Cream, and pizza cheese.
Since the last year that I have moved to German countries, I have been overwhelmed by how many types of cheese are here, and hence stick to my old fashion cream cheese.
But in the last months, I have tried a few more, and for now, I am happy with Edam (Edammer) cheese, but I am wondering if maybe I have not explored enough and there might be even tastier cheese in Germany.
Your last videos about different types of cold medicine (e.g., nose douche) or different types of cakes (e.g. german version of cheesecake), etc,... has helped me navigate my life better in Germany and try and use things that I haven't known/tested before, and since I am eating cheese almost every morning, I would love to know different types better and start my day with the tastiest cheese of all, that you would hopefully recommend ^_^
Oof! I feel a lot of relief and positive vibes with this episode, although mixed with one or two 'Ha!? 😮' moments. But seriously girls, how did you do that - even the one thing which I usually consider to be a bit of a phobia of mine, didn't feel so horrific! And that is wasps. I'm not afraid of bees and I know they are protected by law, I mean they should be.. but why are wasps protected. 😨 I remember one time I was at a resort by the see and we went to a very old style pub, seated by a corner and very close to me there was a spider web; then a wasp came by my plate and I got nervous, just hated seeing it around and a few minitues of flying later I saw it getting caught in that web. I think I've never loved a spider so much 😊 (they should be protected). Anyway, most things sound and feel familiar to me, but always good to know about the kind of switching wether, which by the way I liked when I was in Germany. One thing that got me off guard in a good way was the reeally long summer days. I landed in Hildesheim right on June 21st and omg, I couldn't believe how long daylight that day and the following ones had!! When I asked what time is it and it was 10 :15 or sth of the sort, I didn't believe, I thought she was joking.. Woow, it was equal to 8 :40 or 9 in Bulgaria at the same time of year. 😃 Other than that I live pretty easily without AC, I prefer cooling devices.. well, I know that the smaller it is, the more electricity it consumes, it's pretty much the same here, and I'm used with electricity being expensive, it is one of the most frequent reasons for protests here. 😕

@@simplegermany Bulgaria does have long summer days, you've got this info right. What I meant to tell you is that it struck me how much longer are they in Germany! That's an hour more of clear daylight, not even talking about the bluer hours. 🙂 For example, now it's mid-May and it's 19: 30, I live on the fifth floor and there's still sunlight over the neighboring roofs, but it's also gloomy, while in Germany it wasn't gloomy while there was still any orange sunlight, that's the difference 😎

I can tell you are both smart perfectionists - brilliant topics and very thoughtful summary.
Jen confirmed my US American experience, though she is from Guatemala - maybe it is an American thing that ladies and maybe men too, who knows, easily freak out around wasps and bees. I remember the first events with my dear US girlfriend, I buy her a huge cone of ice cream and a wasp just flew by and she screamed and accidentally threw away the almost untouched ice cream. Or when there was a mouse on the street, she would freak out and I that same pattern all over the US ... what is it that make people think they are safe if they scream? In the wild the result would most likely be counterproductive. So this reflex can only come from people have never spend any time outside a house and are totally out of touch with the tiniest bit of nature.
German ladies are usually much more relaxed in that regard. Has anyone made the same experience and what do you think is the reason that European ladies keep their cool and Americans are freaking out if there is any animal around they don't expect?
Regarding the dress code in the workplace ... I used to work over decade for a huge private TV corporation here in Munich, Germany ... and media people are often very attractive trendy extroverted party animals, the complete opposite of me, apart of also being very handsome of course 😜... and during the very hot Summer days some of them would just come to the office in a bikini and flip-flops ... I am a heterosexual IT guy and really glad I didn't have to spend much time beside them, just fix a few things, explain something and off to help other users, hopefully with some cloth on for a change. I have had very hard time to do any kind of analytical thinking to solve their problems while being exposed to so much bare beauty.
Now I am working in probably the biggest Bank of the state and stuff like that doesn't happen here - the contrast could not be any bigger - though there are also some very attractive ladies around, but all are very conservative as long as they are inside the office. So please stay a little bit professional and put at least some cloth on before you go to work.
And at corporate Summer parties as well as Xmas parties, you better make sure HR is not invited or far away from where the action is ... there is really a lot going on ... people wake up in their offices under/in between their desks the next day, sometimes with people who are not even working in that department. Anyway it helps deeply to connect to other branches for a better synergy - it all happens just for better global corporate overall understanding of course😂. For some people, even some CEOs, such a party can be life changing 9 months later! So be prepared for the craziest stuff to happen, specifically when the company is really big (>1000) and to some degree almost anonymous.
Bottom line some companies invest a lot into these events, some even a few hundred thousand bucks for a really fancy night and they know that this will stick in peoples memories forever and it is a part of a good corporate culture to offer that to their employees. These events really bond and you will have an even more friendly relationship to people in other departments as well and it makes it easier to fight for goals when people enjoy each others company, have fun memories together as well as respect the company they work for.

RE: Deodorant; I discovered a brand called LUME.. You can apply it Anywhere. Great for sticky feet. It cost more than most (USA),but I believe it’s worth it.

Excellent info in the video but the only thing I will disagree is that electricity is not expensive in Germany is pretty cheap in general !!!
Here in Greece for a small apartment, let's say for 40 or 50 square meters the average price right now if you use an AC for heating or cooling is approximately 250-350 a month and all of that for a single person!!
A mid range house with 2 people or if you have a kid you will pay right now approximately 500-600 a month! And we talk about with an average salary here in Greece 650-800 euros per month if you have a bachelor or master!
Compare that to Germany billing for electricity with "German" salaries! :D

Huh, interesting. We guess it really depends on the consumption. According to statistics, electricity in Germany is by far most expensive compared to the rest of the EU: de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/197196/umfrage/elektrizitaetspreise-ausgewaehlter-europaeischer-laender/ But of course those statistics don't compare the cost to the local salaries 😉

@10:41 Yes, but If you get really unlucky a hornet queen ends up in your bedroom. This year around you have to make really smart decisions, that might or might not include a bugnet, if you want to open the window in a bee, wasp and hornet area.

Yea also a good point 😀 from personal experience I’ve only seen ticks on dogs during summer. Luckily neither I ir people that I know have had them.
I had 2 when I was a kid. Don't walk through high gras with shorts and check yourself under the shower. The Bundeswehr channel has an expert video about ticks.

I thought Germany was a world leader in using solar power? Why is electricity so expensive?
Slowly some houses are changing to solar power, however it is not the majority (yet).
Summer feels like hell to me. You too listed several negative aspects, and yet sounded so upbeat about summer weather. It's far easier to heat a living space using low tech means than to cool it. 15 °C outdoors is most comfortable, considering that any direct ray of sun will immediately heat things up.
Global warming and the war will make things much worse. Angela Merkel has made a solar and wind utopia running on putin's gas. I hate people who use air refrigeration and drive up Nord Pool prices for everyone else.
No point going sunbathing in a park with sunscreen cream on, lol.
I have tickets for a 2022 Rammstein concert in Stuttgart that I bought in 2019!
They got rescheduled repeatedly because of the plandemic.

What to expect, a short period of hot temps & no A/C, unless you're in new construction.
Also, expect a return to regular scheduled programming about climate activism nonsense since the Corona plandemic fear mongering has gotten old.
