The trick is called "loading in the background". Showing a prerendered video requires little resources and gives you all the time you need (hopefully) to load the next map.
It's useful technique.

Wow, that was something. Watching that opening cinematic actually brought tears to my eyes. The memories and nostalgia hit harder than I was expecting now that the campaign is here. Many years ago my mom rented out the basement to someone who had a pc with Homeworld on it, and they let me play it. While not the first video game I ever played since my grandpa had an OG Nintendo and N64, that game was something special. That was the start of my love for pc gaming despite the many years before we could afford a pc of our own. That series has a special place in my heart.
Glad you're doing this campaign series. My old poor performing laptop can't handle most new titles, and I can't justify the cost of a new one for a while. I have always watched your channel mainly to live vicariously through you with games I'm interested in but will never bother getting, but this is a game I just have to experience now instead of patiently waiting until I can afford a new laptop lol.

Funny people from desert try to build giant banana spaceship, their planet got glassed because they violating some ancient treaty. Now they try to find new Homeworld™
They started off with Adagio for Strings. All is well with the world.
Still think that the first campaign mission in Homeworld 1 when Kharak was destroyed is still one of the most iconic moments in gaming.
When I heard the music and singing I was 17 again.

A core gaming memory of mine is from Homeworld 1. In the midst of battle with the radio chatter of the fighters in the background the music takes over. The acapella version of Adagio for strings accompanied with the visuals of the ships clashing left me in total awe. I too have waited 20 years for this.
The fluid doesn't move her hair because it's not moving there are no swells to move her hair except a really minuscule love tap from the light so the only time her hair was being affected was when the fluid was pouring in lifting her hair by an inch or a couple centimetres hence why she's not bobbing around and looks more like serene hovering.
Loved seeing the Higaaran ground craft look like Base Runners from DoK
Kinda funny, but if you've played Deserts of Kharak, the ships that you find there were buried underground in perfectly box-shaped holes. Like they hyperspaced there. There are others, though broken and such, that were found sitting on the ground instead of in the ground.
I still have all original games and books on disk. I still have windows XP in the back room I can play them on . I did not realize it has been 20 years. I remember calling into work to stay home and play so I could learn what happens next. So. It begins again.
It's......actually kind of weird seeing them doing these cutscenes as they are. Homeworld 1, 2, the side games and even Kharak used them all to pretty much assess the situation. 'the subject did not survive the process' for instance. all the story we got was in missions about what was going on.
It's not bad, but just.....different. I do like the personal touches here, but at the same time, I kinda miss how the game was just a cold assessment. 'this is what we need to do to move forward'
You may be gushing about the graphics, but I’m over here JAMMING with this OST! God, I love it!
I've always felt it strange that this universe feels that *disassembling your ship/station* is a better idea than building an exit point large enough for the largest things it can make.

Weaponized hyperspace is scary you can just jump right into the middle of a enemy ship and completely delete them in idea you can nothing saying it's not possible
I was wondering why she would have hair at all, concidering that they need to put a plug into her skull.
Yeah I thought that too, guess they needed her to look emo for whatever reason, but really she should have her head shaved.

I recommend extending these to a hour or even to ninety minutes. Longer form content is the way these days.

I will say for the campaign, I have a tiny sadness that all the jumping is now made by cutscenes and not manualy by players. I remember you had to call everyone and plan for jump.
Nothing major, I still love the game so far. Just been noticing how they made it like that.

It's not slow though, the new mothership books. I kinda miss it taking 15 mins to cross the map. New one is way too fast.

"Where Hiigarans go there is only death" well they did get exiled to Kharak for a reason...
And in that exile their history was lost. Then when they, out of curiosity, started exploring the stars the Tiiddan glassed the planet. When the Hiigarans went about finding the other hyperspace cores some crazy Tiidan prophet decided that couldn't happen, so he tried his best to kill S'jet and her ship, and even ordered the glassing of Hiigara. The Hiigarans might bring death, but the Tiidan are no saints in this either.
@@revanreborn2548 Makaan is a Vaygr warlord rather than Taiidani. The Taiidan Imperial remnants did join the Vaygr however. As for Makaans motives, iirc it was driven by conquest rather than prevention.

@@DiehardMechWarrior Turns out he's Ike Amadi, and I was right that I absolutely should have known him because he's had parts in several games I've played as pretty prominent characters like Locke in Halo 5 and Koth Vortena in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Was interested to buy, then noticed that it includes Denuvo DRM, so I am going to skip this.
Btw. the microstutters can be even seen from your recording (very common issue of using this type of DRM).

watching the vid the new mothership appears to be kinda smoll in comparison to the old one, hell the battlecruisers in the backgroudn of Mission 1 aseem to be bigger than this thign. Though i admit it could just have been perspective trickery

Why not combining HW with Deserts of Kharak kind of Imperium Galactica II gameplay
If space combat was real, the orientation matters since if the enemy is coming up or down from the Y axis, you want to orient on that axis to reduce the amount of flat weapons can hit.
Also, I hope they fixed Homeworld's biggest flaw: That being a kleptomaniac and stealing all enemy ships is the most optimal way of playing.

It is a shame that my PC doesn't have the power to process this game. Looks amazing so far and I hope it will be the last one so that it would end with a perfect triple streak. If you look at other franchises each one had a game that screwed up like mass effect andromeda or assassins creed.
Sadly they didn't use the old cutscene style format with black and white instead of the 3D animation (that feels a little of)...
Will it be worth £50 though.

Only on very specific ships. They are called Defence Field Frigates in the past.

That's easy old tech even for us. We have something called a Mammelian Reflex where when we get dunked in water, our physiological processes slow down. It's a holdover from when we are born in a womb. What happens then is that you can survive if the water is hyper-oxygenated since it still flows from your lungs into your blood stream.
Odd how people forget, it used to be common knowledge and there were some theoretical studies on how we could use that to bypass the 9g limit on fightercraft.

Homeworld 3 was a dumpster fire, hopefully updates will fix it, but considering how few people are playing, i think they will abandon it
I like home world 3 so far but they messed up formations imo. They feel dumb. Craft don't maneuver now. It doesn't feel fluid. And you can't make a formation and it be it's own group which is dumb. I might try setting it to homeworld 2 controls but I doubt that will fix it.
Denuvo DRM does sadly mean I just cannot buy this game as it stands.
We waited 20 and I thought it was utter garbage. Imogen S'Chin.....dont need to say anymore about that. It feels like a mobile game to me and the story is just not homeworld.
