    I love how dedicated the creators are to showing different sides to Katara this last season. I thought she'd have her last spotlight during book 1 but all Katara-centric episodes in Season 3 have been creative.

      @theneverendingsasageyo2652 2 дня назад +12

      Yeah, aside from Aang, the literal protagonist, and Zuko, the obvious focus of the last season, I think Katara had the most solo episodes. She had the Painted Lady, the Runaway with Toph, the Puppetmaster, and the Southern Raiders.

      @@theneverendingsasageyo2652 I think considering her whole character, there is just a wide range of things they can do with her development. The creators did not call her the heart of the show for nothing.

    Might be on the minority here but despite Aang displaying his wisdom during the argument, there are a couple of points where he was on the wrong. First, comparing Jet to Katara was flat out erroneous, he said it to make a point about her being blinded revenge, but the thing Katara wanted was far different from what Jet wanted. Katara wanted to find the one who killed her mom despite having the option of taking her captive, it's one evil man she needed to deal with whereas Jet wanted to enact his revenge on innocent Fire nation civilians. Second, his insistence on forgiveness was shallow and was out of place; Katara is someone who's not above forgiving, but telling her to consider this option towards the man who killed her mother was out of touch on his part. I'm just glad her principle won in the end because it's true you can still gain closure despite not forgiving someone who wronged you. And people's hypocrisy for not rallying behind Katara in this is showing when most people would feel, perhaps even act, like how she felt here. You have to consider she's also a teenager who was denied her childhood and a normal family, she was right about Sokka not experiencing the same thing because he said it himself that all his life it was Katara who took care of him and she had to do it a young age, how she said it was wrong but it did not make it any less true.

    • @stephenhigh
      @stephenhigh 2 дня назад +16

      That last part is essential for people to understand.....because that is exactly what they do not understand. Everyone just expects Katara to be the most understanding all the time because that's how she is towards the Gaang, and they react harshly when she behaves like the teenager like she is.

    • @canvas_125
      @canvas_125 16 часов назад

      Exactly; strong emphasis on the second point. It’s crazy to tell someone to forgive the killer of their parent. Katara is right: “Its impossible,” and I am glad she still expressed it herself. Katara’s is the most real reaction while Aang is the detachment extreme.

    • @micahcoleman2760
      @micahcoleman2760 9 часов назад

      @@canvas_125I agree with everyone’s point, but you chose the wrong word in the sentence. It is not detachment; forgiveness is not detachment. Zaheer “letting go of his earthly tethers” is detachment. Aang never went that far, and it’s been explicitly shown in the show when the guru urged him to.

    • @canvas_125
      @canvas_125 6 часов назад

      @@micahcoleman2760 Aang never “went that far?” So according to you he’s the only Avatar to master the Avatar State by NOT opening the final chakra? I used the word detachment because Aang doesn’t have a parental attachment to anyone as he was raised by the monks although he is fond of Gyatso. His community is precisely all about detachment, the element of freedom.

    Zuko's question at the end is so simple yet is a perfect summation of this whole show;
    How do you confront evil when you've never known conflict your entire life?
    Here you have this 13 year old kid who was raised to never get involved in any physical conundrums his entire life, who then gets dragged into a war against a man who wants the world to be reborn, all the while being emotionally, physically and mentally unprepared, his destiny forced upon him by the higher ups with him having no control over, He's a child, and everytime I remember that subtle little scene I gain a whole new respect for this kid (Aang).

    • @micahcoleman2760
      @micahcoleman2760 8 часов назад

      That isn’t a “perfect summation of this whole show.” The show is much more complex and there are more themes than just facing evil that is unprecedented to you.

    This is the episode that emphasizes that katara s relationship with zuko is pretty much like her relationship with haru. they both hate the fire nation for starting the war a destroying their families. The only difference is that Zuko (being part of the fire nation and royal family) hates his own family(father, sister) for driving his mother away. Yeah it s messed up but I guess that also helped him to understand what katara needed to do in this episode. Perhaps more than anyone else their group

  • @renren981
    @renren981 2 дня назад +12

    Wow a minute early this time, impressive 😂 Kidding aside, this is one of the darkest episodes in the series aside maybe from Lake Laogai or S1 ep 3. From Katara using her bloodbending nefariously, to her mom getting murdered right in front of her as a child (and she was what 7 or 8?). I also can't forget that she almost killed a grown man (though justified), Katara, the one character you'd expect to go this far, almost committed manslaughter, twice, in one episode!

    Never understood people's complaint that Katara did not apologize to Sokka for saying that he did not love their mom the way she did, it was true even though it was hurtful, when we did not drag this out the same with Aang not apologizing to Toph for losing Appa, and literally Zuko who's had more hurtful things that he said towards Iroh throughout the whole show, and that was just his mood swing. He only apologized for betraying him in Ba Sing Se. This was Katara being blinded by revenge and anger, she had far more moments in the show where she was understanding of everyone's struggles and in times that they challenged her principles and patience, she'd learned to compromise in the end, so it is kind of funny and disappointing for fans to not give her some slack the way they're giving other characters for doing far worse.
