I’ve had mine for like 8 years or so. The controller is perfectly fine just the cord broke. I was about to buy a new gamepad but thanks to you I’m repairing the old one. I forgot I have a soldering iron.
This is a common problem. To save money, manufacturers use the bare minimum in wire. Cheap, thin wires means you either buy a wireless controller or keep buying wired controllers every 6 months or so.
Thank you so much for the video. It was my first time trying to solder anything, and it took me way longer thant I want to admit, but my controller is now fixed and working.
Exactly what I was looking for. Xbox 360 may be cheap today, spending 20€ where a simple solder here and there could do the trick is a pure waste of money. Thanks for your guide 👌
Since you can do that multiple times if its just the cable(probably wont have to more than twice in the lifespan of the controller). But maybe you have someone or something that ruins your cables and you do it often. If you dont want it to become too short you can remove less insulation and solder wire to wire if you feel comfortable. If you do that you should buy heat shrink.
They really should have made the cord to plug in to a connector on the board. I've got several controllers that have no apparent damage to the cord but constantly disconnect and reconnect. If you tape the cord to the back of the controller in just the right way it will stay on but it is a very annoying problem. I'll probably just cut the old one off and wire in a regular usb cable from an old printer. 360 is the only controller I've ever had this problem with.
[Not shown] Soldering the new wires into the holes. [Also not shown] Re-soldering the rumble motor wires after they break off due to all the flopping around.
very nice, i had thought of this solution while i was laying down, but this confirmed it and made me very happy, thank you for the detailed and straight forward video.
Nice, clean video. My controller was disconnecting every few seconds but there was no visible damage on the cable. I freshened up the solder joints of the cable connector on the board and whadaya know? It worked :)
Controller just stopped working while I was playing a game last night. I thought it was the cord simply because of how long I've had it. Cut out the section I thought was bad, soldered the wires back in and plugged back in... still didn't work. Tried it on my laptop, it then worked.... So I restarted the first computer and surprise, it worked. SO after all that, all I ended up doing was wasting several hours plus unnecessarily shorten my cable by a few inches lol Stupid computer. Thanks for the video nonetheless!
great ! i have a nacon padron so there is the yellow cable but i guess it's no use... so can i just skip it? the usb - C has it but the original cable doens'nt...
Mine has a white clip holding the four wires in. Looks like this one has been repaired before. Was is already removed? Do you break it off after you use the solder remover/plunger? (I use solder wick at work.) Or does it come right off?
Have you ever tried taking a broken wired controller which felt good in your hands and taken some of the components out of a wireless and converted it over to the wired? In other words have you ever tried to take a wired controller and tried to convert it to wireless? Thank you.
Decent tutorial. Missed some key details, and the background music is considerably distracting. People who are watching a man fix a controller don't expect or necessarily want to hear royalty free electronic music that's better suited to an ad on youtube or a gaming channel.
@@hamburguesa33 Hey Putin, I still have no clue about the plastic bit. But while trying to fix the wires, I completely fucked everything up beyond repair and ordered a new controller.

Use the original printer usb cable. like this : www.rework.network/products/original-dell-printer-usb-cable-usb-2-0-a-b-male-1-5m-black-with-magnet-ring-ship-from-china
Awesome thanks. Video could have been a tad better but overall good job. I've been looking for something to fox for my otg cable when it gets here. I made an otg cable but it keeps shorting out probably because I'm not the best with solder. Honestly I got an otg cable to initially turn my phone into a sort of half assed laptop or desktop. May piss some call of duty players off but it's all in fun and seeing what I can make technology do that most don't realize. I mean hell have you ever hooked a floppy drive to a phone. It's fairly useless but fun
@@WeekTechniques wired lol, also the thing is i don't think it is broken/short wire issue because we hardly use it or move it around, i don't unplugged it from computer while power spike occur
Mine did the same so I used a cable wire tie thing (those twisty ones you always find on new cables, or just bread package) Tied it up at the top in way similar to this video: ruclips.net/video/HhZ_FwdxOsc/видео.html In short you have to find a way to keep that place always bent. Doesn't disconnect anymore, it worked. It eventually led to the breakage of the cable due of the constant bending (I mean that's why I'm here now) but that's another story. Let's just call it a temporary fix. See if it helps. PS: I just didn't attempt to fix my old controller and just went straight buying a new Xbox One controller instead, it can work both wired and wireless, so the wire is removable and can be replaced easily, any micro-USB cable such as the phone charger one would work. But it isn't cheap.
i know ho to fix it but i do not have the tools to fix it so pleas give the tools to fix controller or you can mack a easy way how to fix it but it maybe
Read Marchel Sugi's comment. Cut as in video. Rather than solder, leave the wires on controller board. Feed wire through the clamp part, then trim and expose copper wire attach and twist wires together (red with red etc). Wrap in electrical tape. Finish job. Have a cuppa and play some games.

At 6mins what type of glue / resin is being used to blob over the newly soldered in wires? Cheers to anyone that can asnwer that.
More than likely just your standard hot glue. It's only there for a bit of support and typical hot glue isn't conductive.
