Congrats on the birhtday and great that you could celebrate it by talking about something so dear for you. Let us not get stuck on that topic being the literal armies of Hell.

You're making me realize they really do give off more of a Word Bearer vibe lmao. Like those shrine worlds they got where they force slaves to just endlessly build temples.
Regarding the Heretic Legions' motivations, I think it's worth considering that it's been almost eight hundred years since the Templars created the gate to Hell at the end of the First Crusade. In the first decades of demonic occupation, there was probably a lot of resistance, but to most of the people living on Heretic territory now, it's just... normal. These are people who've lived their whole lives in the Heretic information bubble, who just don't hear alternate points of view - but who are no doubt told a lot of horrific stories about how bad the Church is. Most of these stories are probably even true: the Church factions are not *nice*, by any stretch of the imagination.
I hope this is something they go more into once the actual book drops honestly. We can get little hints of things like that but thats peak actual story material right there. Also yeah true. I've seen the Trench Pilgrims. I'd believe my boss if they pointed at mister "hands nailed to a shield" and called him the bad guy lmao.
Supernatural corruption is at play aswell, something many people have difficulty grasping. If you are half mad from a world at war, a whisper from the dark powers might be just enough to turn you to a life of sin and debauchery.
If you're on the Discord I painted a Heretic Priest for Knights of Avarice. Green Gold/tarnished and oxidized sorta look with purple cloaks and what imagine are "blood receipts" for dues owed and paid Simple head and weapon - head swap on the new Lord Terminos from Skaventide lol
Found it! I'm on the discord as purely a lurker lol. Immediately saw the good use of AoS for it. Honestly works incredibly for the Knights. Looks sick af man. Great work.
I think the most enticing thing about the heretic legions is that you have to be true evil. Be hungry for status or rewards and commit warcrimes just for advantages or profit means nothing, the powers of hell will measure your true inner darkness and desire to commit atrocities by the happiness of atrocities sake. You have to be a devil yourself to be in the company of devils. Both the christians and apostates have this in common, If you are in you have to commit, and love it
I love that you’re doing these videos to drum up interest and support for the upcoming Kickstarter. Really nice seeing passionate online creators promote the stuff they love. 😁
First video I've found from you and I love it. You've got an incredible personality, I can literally see the excitement and passion you have on your face and in your smile. I'm excited to see more from you!
4:30 Not gonna lie, this kinda seems like Grimdark for Grimdark-sake, unless the actual numbers of the Heretic Legions amount to around 20,000 dudes or each trooper is Astartes-tier badass.
At first I assumed it was that. Hell is overly evil as the intention. But nah, its a numbers game. TC has a *much* bigger population than our world. Which as I said at the beginning 1/3rd of humanity is on the side of Hell. Which for them specifically, they seem to be intentionally trying to outpace the others population wise. They have the means to do this too. Their tech is just better, they dont really care for the quality of living, and they specifically feed their people hellish foodstuff. Shit directly from Hell that grows stupid fast and is insanely dense food source... it also may or may not be sourced from bodies. So the gate pilgrimage sounds more like a numbers game. But a numbers game from a population that is indoctrinated already into worshipping Satan. So it sounds more like a way to quickly boot people from basic training with 0 effort and with more cruelty? I found that little detail while reading about the Iron Sultanate. The people doing this pilgrimage are probably worthy of Hell, but it looks more like its weeding out those that might not be able to commit rampant murder or something. Not meant as a full defense or anything either lol. You got me wondering if the devs ever commented at the population of the TC world and I found a lot more hiding in the lore. Alongside some reading I already did recently.
I actually have no interest in any other tabletop skirmish game besides warhammer 40k... is what i had thought before this video but i am convinced that this is pure gold and I will happily fund the kickstarter. But not today, i need my sleep now 😂
Only speaking at this current moment, Heretic Legion are my 2nd army pick. Only saying that cause once models/rules start pumping post Kickstarter with my luck they're gonna drop something even cooler lol
Heretic: Hey kids, you wanna join our heretic army in exchange for all of your immortal souls and be used as cannon fodder for our demon overlords? Dumb kid: Yeah sign me up!
Its the kinda thing where 2 main sides in a conflict, Creation vs Hell, is made up of a bunch of different groups with their own aims. All believing that they're actually the protags. Good example is say, the Iron Sultanate. And Islamic faction. God full on preformed a miracle and placed an Iron Wall to give them a defensive location to retreat to. So they're like "Ah sick. God's chosen." But a Christian faction, New Antioch saw that and was like "Ah sick. God put a big wall in the Middle East to distract the Satanists. Thanks God! Always looking out for us." Everyone just assumes they're gonna win in some way. That and war game lore means theres always a justification for each faction to fight each other/themselves.
Not really there's a third that its all lovecraftian cosmic horror but the creator stated that its gonna be a long way before we get models, rules and lore about them
The historical research on this game seems super lazy... Might be nit picking, but given that their whole shtick is alternative history, makes me question whether any effort went into this thing or if its just an attempt to build hype and grab cash. The templars were formed after the first crusade. They explicitly spell out that the "knights templar" open the portal to hell in 1099.
I wouldn't say 1 possible date flub means one of the least profitable project methods (indie tabletop) is now suddenly a cash grab. But honestly I can see some reason that its intentional. Like for one, the actual start date of the Knight Templar is a bit... nebulous? 1118 to 1120 is what you getwith a quick google search but I know there is a source (Simon St Bertin) who claimed it started in 1099. Was he right? Dubious. Would he be correct in an alt history setting? He would if the author decided he was lol. Then the other point I've seen brought up, this is intentional. We wont know until the full books are out, but they are really setting up that these factions can be unreliable narrators. So... kinda like in real life. Chance the Templars were scapegoats here accused of demon worshiping.
@@glueboy I mean its literally the first thing you read in their lore doc. Which is why I think its incredibly lazy and badly researched. They were established in/around 1119 as the Poor Knights of Jesus Christ in response to the roads not being safe enough for pilgrims - something that only became a concern after the Kingdom of Jerusalem was created after the crusades. Their connection to the Temple of Solomon/Temple Mount was an accident - King Baldwin gave it to them as a headquarters in 1120. They literally didn't exist during the first crusade and for the first century or so of their existence they stuck to their original duties of protecting pilgrims rather than becoming an elite military force.
Ok so it sounds like you're going with that main account and formation of the order. Which I believe started in 1119 and was officiated in 1120 after the Council of Nablus. Which is just one account. There is a lot more when you look at the life of the founder of Hughe de Paynes. It could have began in 1118 durring his pilgrimages to Jerusalem. Or that much earlier acount by Simon St Bertin? He was writing about Paynes. If we wanna get extra anal here some people argue it didn't actually start until it got church approved at the Council of Troyes in 1129. My point is that the origin is a lot more disordered here. History is an interesting mess of accounts. How many of these actually happened? Personally there are a lot of legitimate evidence placing its origin around 1118 with Paynes imo. But for an alt history setting they at least have the historical documents here to yoink the date listed in the lore primer. Shout out to Bertin for the multi century layup. (Had to edit cause I mixxed up names lol)
@@glueboy I mean the exact dates aren't clear - we only have the Canons of the Council of Nablus of 1120 as a direct contemporary primary source that establishes both the Templars and Hospitallers. But they had to have been formed well after 1099 because their whole shtick for about a century was protecting pilgrims. They wouldn't have formed before or during the crusades as pilgrimages had become impossible in the 9th and 10th centuries due to hardening attitudes by the rulers of the region. "Templars in 1099" shows there was no effort to even bother any research - it shows they haven't even bothered googling giving wikipedia a cursory glance when developing their setting.
"Shows there was no effort to even bother researching" you know, except for the document I've repeatedly referenced lmao. Which you don't have to believe. I'm not even saying I do. My *point* is that the existence of it is more than enough for an alt history setting. Like a counter argument to all of that is if the devs just said "Hey all Bertin's account is what happened in Trench Crusade." And then point in the direction of his writings. Then hey, right after that part it diverts so hard from our history that it doesn't matter lmao. That and technically the TC world isn't our world in the first place. The religions in that world is heavily based on ours but diverts a bit occasionally.
@glueboy amazing isn't it, bet you'd be falling all over yourself if someone accused you of being a bigot against Muslims to apologize but as soon as you're a bigot against "the right people" You're fibe with it, you're exactly the type of person who should be playing that game
@Frug4l I'm a big fan this version of me you just made up to get mad at. Even funnier cause I literally just finished making a video covering their muslim faction. My actual take is this. Nah devs just didn't want the full blown chuds that were busy crying about female space marines and Games Workshop "going woke" in their community. People are still very excited for Trench Crusade, probably more so now that the neckbeards have been directly told to fuck off
@CalamityJay-ez2mq Genuinely thats my opinion based off my experience with making Trench Crusade videos. I saw the drama occur on Twitter but didn't have a full opinion since I wasnt present. Then after making videos? People fully into Trench Crusade commented. Which I found 2 groups of people who were already associated with the community. 1 side had a bunch of genuinely nice people excited to see somebody talk about their game and add details I didnt have time or access to. The other was only talking about the discord drama while also being immensely shitty. Full on random homophobia out of nowhere shit was wild. This isnt just a couple people sadly. So yeah, if I had a discord for this channel I'd make that same decision lmao. Fuck em. Aint no way in hell I wanna share an online space with that crowd.
