i'm agnostic, and the amount of times i've had religious people say something like "how do you have a moral compass without religion/god?!" so the lyrics in the beginning about "you shouldn't do that cause it's a messed up thing to do" really speak to me. i may not believe in god, but i want to believe a place like heaven exists. i really love the message of this song.
I'm an Atheistic-Leaning Agnostic. The whole deal sounds like utter nonsense, but I'm just a meatball wandering around a spinning rock, so how can I actually "know" anything? And that includes whether or not I'm actually typing this comment right now, considering I could conceivably be in a simulation, or an undifferentiated dissociative schizophrenic fugue state, or still tripping on some acid I took (from my perspective) twenty years ago.
If the people who say that to you are saying that nonbelievers can’t have morals, then they are absolutely wrong. But it is important to remember that without a creator, or some sort of superior being, morals are ultimately decided by humans. So the atheist belief is that it’s all subjective. No one is right or wrong on an absolute scale. It’s just a difference of opinion.
Ngl the lyric "Im not gonna give you love just 'cause I know you want me to, if you want love then the loves gotta come from you" always makes me almost tear up. Like it takes my breath away.
same! i get chills and nearly teary eyed. i always chalk it up to the way i perceive music because i can really get invested and moved by songs, but even if it weren't for that, i think i'd still react the same
“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” --Mahatma Gandhi So relevant to Evangelical Christian Conservatives in the U.S. today. And they are doing significant harm to the country and the whole concept of Spirituality.
I think its more the idea that Super religious people think the only reason to not do terrible things is because their religion tells them not to do it.
though I'm an atheist myself I really love the line that gods love is the type of thing you have to earn but once you earn it that you won't need it because that means you are being a good person and god loves you for it and then you can help others and what not. I also enjoy the what if life on earth could be\is heaven though I don't believe I do think if everyone acted like Jesus the world be a lot better off sadly way too many people do not religious and otherwise.
Amen, even though I’m not atheist that’s actually sort of Jesus’ main point and goal, was to demonstrate being a perfect human person, sinless and faultless. If everyone acted like Jesus, the world wouldn’t just be better - it would be perfect, and we wouldn’t need a savior.
We do not need to earn His love We cannot be good Jesus' main point was not to teach us how to be good, it is to save us from ourselves because we can't as good as you think you are you know you have done something wrong. all you need to do to be saved is believe in the Lord Jesus Christ
The line“my loves the type of thing that you have to earn and when you earn it you won’t need it” is really powerful. To me, it’s saying that no one should try and follow every silly little rule just to try and earn love from god. The most important thing is being a good person and when we behave in a way that would earn gods love, we no longer need to be striving for it in that way.
great reaction! Bo has a lot of good stuff, really. should check out his other songs. Lower your expectations, Repeat stuff, Art is dead, Nerds, Hell of a ride, All eyes on me, Country song, Sad, How the world works... there are really A LOT hahaha
I think most people who are not religious are not religious because they see people who are very religious doing counter religious things. So I don't think it is at all related to being mad/annoyed/whatever about being told how they have to live their lives. There's a lot of people who talk about being like Jesus and then horde wealth and look down at poor people. It seems like every year there's at least one republican politician that talks about family values and then cheats on his wife. My friend knew someone who died in high school after he crashed his car after drinking and he said at their funeral instead of it being a somber lesson for everyone it was an hour of the pastor yelling at everyone for his blasphemous actions and telling everyone that he's going to hell.
This song always reminds me of 'Golden Boy' by The Mountain Goats, which parodies people who treat religion as this sort of 'reward' system and think of the blessings of heaven as material goods (in this case, the singer's favorite brand of snack peanuts) by singing very passionately about how Hell doesn't have any pan-asian supermarkets where you can buy said peanuts. I don't know if it'd necessarily make a good reaction video; The Mountain Goats aren't the sort of thing that typically gets reaction content and it doesn't have a music video to speak of. Either way, definitely give it a listen at some point if you like this song; very different sound, but similar philosophical vibe.
As soon as i knew this was a white christan dude i knew there would be never ending rambling from and as soon as his wife talks for 30 seconds hes like okay weve talked for too long. Thats crazy.
As an outsider, I always felt like one's religion or faith, whatever it maybe, should be more of a 1 to 1(s) relationship. I've never been a fan of organized religion because I feel like it creates a sort of echo chamber where only their interpretations and teachings are true and it shouldn't be questioned. The idea of any religion encouraging believers to rope people into their own ideals just does sit well with me. I do like how you interpret religion/faith as a relationship and how teachings between then and now aren't really the same and can differ between aspects of life and different people as well. Sorry, if I misinterpreted that incorrectly, but the idea is sound to me. I digress, I enjoyed both of your reactions and inputs!
I had a grandma who was a devout Catholic, she attended church, three times a week her entire life and lived by the Catholic rules and I am just short of agnostic… I believe there’s a God, but I don’t feel like he’s doing anything with any of life here or those horrible things just wouldn’t happen It’s all just part of the natural rules not the godly ones. My grandma used to tell me that when you face God after you passed, he knows you better than you know yourself and he’ll understand exactly why you believe the way you did if you lived a good life he would never punish you. She would end by telling me she’s a Catholic because she believes that makes her a better person and that’s the rule. We all must try to follow.
My only problem with religion is when people use it as a scapegoat for their actions or worse as a moral basis like if you don’t have religion you are a cracked out rapist that will burn anything. That is the neighborhood I grew up in and it made me so upset with the hypocrisy. I am spiritual now but I mainly follow Greek loosely it isn’t like I pray or give tribute I learn from their stories

'Faith' is believing something when you have no good reason to. Every religion requires it. It has a horrible record of requiring atrocities. Why would anyone be proud to associate themselves with such???
@@peterpete4496 I have a laundry list of grievances with organized religion and the path of bloodshed it leaves in its wake, but to reduce faith to gullibility is to reduce the human experience to gullibility. plenty of instances where we need faith in more tangible ways that don't involve a supposed higher power. if you enter a relationship, you need faith that someone loves you. unless you have the ability to read another person's mind, we're always gambling that someone's words of affirmation and promises of devotion are genuine. if you don't have that faith, your relationship can crumble under the weight of doubt. we are constantly utilizing faith in life, because life is filled with the unknown.

Funny, that there isn't even a commandment about rape in the bible. But there is a rule that rapists should marry their victims and pay the father compensation for the damaged and useless property.

Bo's songs often generate those "pin drop" moments. Sometimes, he just stuns his audience (in a good way).
