I flew this route during COVID in 2021 and tbh I'm glad they finally made this into its own class. In 2021, this was essentially an economy plus seat and I was able to pay simply a few dollars more for a far more comfy seat. We also had an equipment swap on my westbound flight, same 787-9 but with the Polaris seats. They are far more comfortable on the 787 than the 777-300ER. I'd book the seat again. Pretty wild too, that a year or two ago the WiFi was $40 for the route (and it never worked on either flight), and now I can get it for $8 (or even free on T-Mobile). Those seats really were a sweet spot for me.
That’s because United sells Premium Plus as is on longer Hawaii flights and premium transcon domestic flights using 3 class planes. On shorter Hawaii flights (SFO-HNL for example) and non-premium transcon domestic flights using 3 class planes, Premium Plus is sold as Economy Plus.
Was impressed with United's service. I didn't know there was such a wide range of PE with the mainline carriers domesticly - would expect more uniformity. Nice views coming into SFO.
Yep, no uniformity at all. They clearly haven’t all decided what to do with the product yet. I don’t think it needs to be its own class of service for a two hour flight, but on 5 hour cross country flights like this, United is doing it right.
I find the Premium Economy seat on United very comfortable and have flown it between Hawaii and the west coast where it is considered part of Economy Plus and priced at that level, but does not include any food other than economy offerings. I liked it so much I;ve booked it from San Francisco rt London.
I did not keep the headphones. They are meant to be left on board, and wouldn’t be worth keeping anyway. I was connecting from another United flight so I did not check in at EWR. Have a great flight!
Do they use real cups on this flight? ie if you order a mixed drink or coffee in premium economy does it come in plastic cups or real ones like polaris?
United just doesn’t fly a convenient schedule for me very often, so I have never had status with them or really looked into it much. I know they overhauled their system and everything seems to involve earning and redeeming plus points for upgrades. I like their Illy coffee!
Odd, I was just on a flight from SFO-SYD on their 777 and was lucky enough to get one of those seats, didn’t have the leg rest though, just the pegs like I believe american had. Can’t complain though, that seat made all the difference on a flight that long
Yes, I agree that Premium Economy can make a huge difference on a long haul flight. Were you on a 777-200 or 300ER? Every photo I have seen of the Premium Plus seats shows the leg rest (and the "bus pegs") on United. I hope you enjoy(ed) Australia, thanks for commenting!
I've been uncertain about United but that looks to be a decent flight. Plus they look to be raising their game once their new planes . Also no expiration on their miles.
They just never had a convenient schedule or routes for me in Florida or Seattle so I fly United the least. I always seem to have a good time when I do though. I definitely appreciated the meal service on this flight for the distance, huge perk.

I will be trying premium economy by the end of the year, this review was very helpful, thank you!
Have a great trip!
I was impressed by the fact that an actual hot meal was served in Premium Plus! Great video!
Thanks!

Thanks for the no BS review
Thanks for that last part - paying all that extra to have a pillow and blanket." Ima stick to our premium plus.

Feel like that’s a very generous bulkhead verses some other bulkhead’s in Premium Economy.
I wasn’t complaining! I feel like American’s is about the same. Delta’s looked a bit tighter, given they IFE is on the bulkhead itself.
@@GilbertTravels my only real reason for avoiding bulkheads is having to show my backpack with my equipment lol.

Just booked a premium economy HNL-> SFO -> CDG
No premium economy in the HNL -> SFO leg but extra legroom is automatically included.
Flying that same route on premium plus in a few weeks. Do you keep the headphones? Also, did you get to use premier check in?
I did not keep the headphones. They are meant to be left on board, and wouldn’t be worth keeping anyway.

Drink service is the same as economy plus, free alcohol but in plastic/paper cups.

Do you have any loyalty status with United? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

What's the best premium economy product among the three US airlines (Delta, AA, UA)?
Risotto is not pasta just so you know
San Francisco * :)
Hah, fair enough. I should just stick with airport codes ;)
