    What happened to being open-minded and respecting what other people choose to listen to? It may not be the most melodically inspired song (or band), but it's pretty obvious to me that the focus is mainly on technical rhythms. I double dare any of you haters to try and match his playing. Just because you don't happen to like them, that doesn't mean they suck by definition.

    • @higler.
      @higler. 9 лет назад +7

      Lennart N It's not close-minded to say that this is simple riffing. That's also not an insult. I doubt Alex would get his panties in a twist over someone stating what he knows is the fact since he plays the shit every night. It's not hard, or technical.
      Once again, not an insult, just what it is. Not that it matters.

    • @Spoodasaurus
      @Spoodasaurus 5 лет назад +2

      @@higler. I know this is like 3 years old but I agree lol I hate when people are like oh this is so easy to play. It's not about how easy or hard something is to play it's about making sounds that you want to make. Some are easy some are hard.

    I'm assuming this is his signature guitar. Why is there a pickup selector if it only has one humbucker? Is it a coil tap... and it's Whitechapel... why would he need a coil tap?

    • @jakepetrane1736
      @jakepetrane1736 9 лет назад +5

      It's a Stephen Carpenter and the pick guard is covering the old neck pickup and he had a Dimarzio humbucker put in and no neck one, so the selector is still there from the original neck humbucker

    After seeing the endorsement adds and various write ups on this band I was curious to hear what they sound like and get an insight on the guitar playing especially with 3 downtuned sevenstrings... I'll try and frame this in a positive way, I hoped they would be more rhythmically creative, harmonically interesting, have cool guitar playing and unique or brutal vocals with interesting lyrics.... Disappointed but I guess there are plenty of other bands to check out.

    i mainly play folk music, and im kinda surprised how easy this is to play. Maybe its because im a 5 finger fingerstylist, but i was surprised how siimple the chords were and how simple the riff progression was. He mainly riffed on three strings. He should learn to use his other fingers; instead of depending on a pick. I thought heavy meant heavy in notes, but apparently its about distortion pedals you buy. My mistake.

    • @XbninjaXIV
      @XbninjaXIV 7 лет назад

      nonya fourthreetwoonezero Have you heard most of their songs? You make it sound like they're all like this.

    • @nonyafourthreetwoonezero7350
      @nonyafourthreetwoonezero7350 7 лет назад

      Jonor Nokturl no, but ive played numerous decapitated songs (which is far more technical than this). In folk music, you would not be able to get away with this type of horrendous anchoring. It is really not that hard to stop anchoring. What hes doing looks sloppy, and hes really holding himself back. Its harder to move seamlessly through strings when your keeping pressure on fingertips like that. Look at a folk musician like ben howard. He plays complex fingering patterns and goes back and forth between strings like its nothing. Their is no heavy distortion like metal, but the technicality required is far greater than this. Not only that, but the pressure required to play on heavier acoustic gauges is something alot of metal players cannot do. I dont know why some metal heads insist on acting like their music is so hard and therefore are "tough" because they can play it. With that said metal heads are usually more knowledgeable about good gear. Folk musicians rarely know about good amps or good pickups.

    • @leejk3926
      @leejk3926 7 лет назад

      Well I mean quite a few of the subgenres of metal can revolve around very low tunings, high gauge strings and high gain. I don't doubt what you said though. I can play songs such as this however I'm hopeless at arpeggios when they're in songs like Cemetary Gates by Pantera or Dear God by Avenged Sevenfold (which is a country-themed song). It's something I'd love to be able to do though. As far as metal goes, this is nowhere near as hard as it can get. However, I don't quite agree with the thing about strings on an acoustic being hard to play for metal musicians. Metal musicians will often use high gauge strings because of the greater tone they give and because they can take more of a beating so the transition may not be all that different. I use standard 10-46 strings and I have no problem on an acoustic guitar. I've never really heard of metal heads insisting on ALL metal being hard to play. In the metal scene on RUclips it won't be hard to find people taking the piss out of djent. The heavy part is more about the tone rather than the notes as well and the tone is affecting by the things I listed in the first sentence. I wouldn't mind getting more into folk music though, I like quite a lot of music, just metal is my go to favourite genre.

    • @nonyafourthreetwoonezero7350
      @nonyafourthreetwoonezero7350 7 лет назад

      "I'm hopeless at arpeggios" -- if you did get into folk, it might help you with that. If you ever watch any hozier live performances, you notice he uses four fingers to fingerpick. He is able to seamlessly move through the strings. Arpeggios are easy for me, but its because i use my fingers.

    I myself prefer the older albums. Our Endless War had some gems (Worship the Digital Age) and whatnot; but, since then they just keep writing more and more simplified riffage. I don't know if they're just that eager to throw out material every two years or if they have a contract, but it just seems like they just write whatever nowadays. Aside from the lyrics, and decent drum tracks, the guitarists of WC just seem bland with their newer style.

    Love how twangy his tone is

    • @nrthrn_dcy
      @nrthrn_dcy 9 лет назад +3

      Its not his tone. Its the strings. They're probably like 20 minutes old lol. Fresh strings always have that bright twangy sound. Definitely helps for what he's doing though. It would be hard to distinguish what the fuck he's playing without them because its in Drop G.

    • @syntheticdreams77
      @syntheticdreams77 9 лет назад

      Abraham Owen i think this is not just The strings, that sound mainly comes From your picking style and something like tubescreamer (and ofc new strings always sound a bit clearer)

    • @WholeLottaBulldog
      @WholeLottaBulldog 9 лет назад

      It's the dimarzio that he's using. I have the identical rig and the twang is very present.

    I was 100% sure he was going to do that pick slide in the beginning, after those open chords.
    Not hating, just saying it was predictable.

      It's an SCT-607B. He removed the pearl white pickguard and the "neck" pickup, and covered it with a black pickguard, and changed the bridge pickup out for a DiMarzio Deactivator 7.

      Ashton Wilkins I've heard that they actually tune to Drop A and use a drop pedal to take it down a step, do you know if this is true?
      They seem to use some pretty thin-ass strings.

      I have to admit that im definitely not a fan of them but I did like the first riff, but you do have a point in that it isnt original its just a low tuning with chuggin, but there are a few decent parts

      +Armando Henriquez Something so dumb that the strings move if a breeze comes up. You do NOT have to down tune to be heavy. It's just a dumb fad that will hopefully die out.
