- Before every battle my Pokemon get randomized. As far as I'm aware this type of challenge has never been done before, but it was a ton of fun!

That’s what I love about randomizer runs. Everyone always finds a lugia and they’re like “oh shit lugia” But lugia is always underlevel and only knows whirlwind

As for the Tate & Lisa fight; it’s not that they have their Pokémon divided 3 to 1, the game actually handles the trainer class as a single trailer (whose name is TATE&LISA) that has 4 Pokémon.
The battle is set as a double battle, so they send out 2/4 pokemon at a time, just like you do.
The sprite is also a single sprite, to give the illusion you’re fighting two trainers at once.
Under normal circumstances, the Pokémon being split over the two trainers only occurs in double battles from gen IV forwards.
In gen 3 (not sure of this; it happens in gen 4 for certain) it only happens if 2 individual trainers were to see you at the exact same time, as they are individual entities instead of a single trainer pretending to be two
So yeah, Tate and Lisa (as well as the trainer classes such as Twins) are treated as a single person just happening to do a double battle by the game

Jumittaja 06 so can Miltank actually. But I think the reason he can still surf is just a safety mechanic to prevent the game from going nuts. He just surfs until hitting land again.
I don't think the game checks if you still have surf once you're on the water.

Ant's pokemons probably hate him very much with how much he uses herbal medicine
I think what happened with the Shedinja having no ability was just the second ability of Shedinja, which doesn't exist. You must've had a pokemon that had its second ability (for example Azumaril having Huge Power, which is the second ability, and Thick Fat being the first), therefore after randomizing, the pokemon still has its second ability, and if it doesn't exist, it has no ability.
I love how at one point he says. "Amnisia? Who do you think you are." Like yeah... that's how amnesia works.

I’d imagine the reason it seemed like one trainer had 3 pokemon in the tate and liza fight is that it probably functions like a double battle between 2 trainers rather than 4. Like the game probably considers tate and liza as 1 trainer
That last battle reminds me of the time I beat Lance using only a Lugia using struggle and a ton of hyper potions. I ran out of elixirs and revives

That Tate & Liza fight hit home hard, that was the only point I really struggled in Emerald. Just a mix of bad starter choice and overlevelling it (Torchic), unfamiliarity with double battles, and about 7 hyper potions.
Made me have to explicitly go out of my way for several hours just to catch an Absol. If there's one thing I can say nice about them, is hey, they taught me that Perish Song can be cancelled out by switching your pokemon out, so that's nice.
my first time playing ruby, they made me take about a week of throwing my overleved blaziken into the battle before the brute force method worked. thinking back i was stupid but it's funny

I think the "No special ability" thing is caused by pokemon that were initially caught with their second ability being randomized into a pokemon with only 1, such as Shedinja. With no assigned ability for the second ability slot, it defaults to having "No special ability".

Ok I know this vid is from a bit ago, but with the patch, does it still keep track of EVs for each pokemon?
Because then there might still be reason to keeping a level 27 over a 30 for example if the 27 has a lot of EVs from fighting stuff
i'm curious, do the pokemon get to keep their natures and evs/ivs or do those also randomize every battle?
I've never been so bored and yet so entertained
