A right angle impact is worth having so you can just use the trailer ramps and have plenty of room. I believe in sharpening blades daily if you mow every day. We’re cutting more yards in a single day than most homeowners mow their own yard all year. Realistically I do it once a week and sharpen the blades until theirs nothing left to sharpen. New blades get put on every month at that rate. I’m mowing solo 7 days a week for 10 hours a day. In the past I’ve gotten lazy and would cut for a month or two on the same blades and frayed everyone’s grass. Seeing that stresses me out. Tire pressure is equally as important for cut quality.
I buy 6 pairs of blades. I sharpen them with my angle grinder. At least every 2 mowing days i switch them out in the morning before work. Takes me 5 min. Cutting with sharp blades is quite thrilling and totally crucial. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 Appreciating your thoughtful videos man. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ Mowing lawns here in Utah. Greatful to be makeing a living… 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 For the new guys….. The way in is through humility… 😌😌😌😌😌😌😌😌😌😌
Glad to see I am not the only one that struggles with the blade change lol. I've got some aluminum ramps that get propped on the side of the trailer.... ample space.
I'm just a homeowner who loves to mow grass and be outside! It's my relaxation!...I probably sharpen my blades too often, and I have 6 blades that I rotate during the season. Ever since I learned by watching guys like yourself on YT how to sharpen my own blades, I keep'm sharp. It makes a difference when you look at the grass blades and there's a nice clean cut! Thank you for the knowledge you've been dropping lately. It's been helpful and motivating. I want to get into the mowing business, but I haven't taken that leap. Keep procrastinating and think of the 'what if's'...what if this goes wrong, what if that goes wrong. What if I don't get customer' all those things. Stay safe and see you on the next one👊🏽
Jungle Jim’s jungle jack, Impact Wrench, All American sharpener with a angle grinder, blade balancer. These products have gotten me very efficient when it comes to blade sharpening & changing. Cutting with a fresh set of blades is just something else. Shout out Blades of grass for putting me on. Another dope video man
Block of wood sandwich between top of deck and mower frame. Low profile jack and 2 jack stands 1 on each corner. Cordless impact and some permatex antiseaze as needed keep the threads for the bolts locking up. Keep a couple sets of blades presharpend. 5 minutes tops.
We been getting so much rain here in the Chicago areas, sharpened blades and cleaning under the deck is daily. Depends on what brand of mower ur running with. We running grandstands and use the ramp as a starting incline, pull brake lever and pull back on mower until vertical, balance very good ,change blades and cleaning under deck easier, but not all mowers .
I sharpened blades about every other day when I was mowing. 20+ lawns a day so they need to be sharpened. I just had 3 sets I would keep on hand and swap them out. Sharpen them all on Sunday.
Shallow sockets. Floor jacks work wonders, but I use a trail jack for my rider because it's more portable compared to an fj, and I can do blades or whatever anywhere out in the field. Anywhere that can support the narrow base of the jack, anyway. My trail jack has also come in handy for getting an overloaded trailer off of my truck. I'm trying to get blades up to twice a week, but really, I'm so busy and tired, it's been anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks 😅
We got potatoes going again this year, so cool. Fox got our chickens not too long. You can get a grinder and hop under the mower and grind the blade directly to sharpen it.
I change blades every week up here in VA also. Unless I beat em up on sticks I was too lazy to pick up. :) You gotta pay the stupid tax every once in a while. I use the Ballard Blade Assist on a bench grinder. It's soooo helpful, accurate and fast. Well worth the money.
I’m in a season of my life where I would rather buy memories than things. I use my loader to raise my mower and change them weekly. But I’m not at the volume you are. Appreciate the videos👍
We have bout 6 different sets of blades for each mower, swap with fresh blades every day. Sharpen them all in one swing once or twice a week. Sharpening them takes a while just because it’s in bulk, but takes less than 2 minutes to swap the blades with impact wrench each morning
Thank you for that, I’m considering starting this on. Smaller scale but NEVER considered blade maintenance. Too focused on which lawnmower and client saturation.
Now, usually daily. I do, occasionally, bring a spare set to swap onto a mower if I've been using the same mower all day on less than pristine lawns. I change the blades not so much because they're dull at the end of the day but because the deck needs to be cleaned out every day. Coming from Tampa to TN,I can't believe the amount of grass that accumulates under the deck. In Tampa, I RARELY had to clean anything under the deck of the grandstands except for the baffle area. Here, I get five plus pounds of crap out from under the deck each day on each unit PS, back in Tampa I changed the blades after every six hours of actual mowing. Which would be about every other day on each machine. I did full service maintenance there so it wasn't just mowing. I'd knock out 10-12 yards a day but most of those were only ten to fifteen minutes actually on the mower.
@Hillsidelanscapemanagement same here. Moved up to north middle Tennessee from Atlanta this January and I'm doing a thorough cleaning out from under my deck almost every 2 days. Blades definitely get dull a lot quicker here than compared to the bermuda lawns that I was used to.
Been getting so much rain in Pennsylvania this spring you have to clean under deck every yard. Mowing at 3 in the afternoon and still wet and clumping because rain every other day. Change blades weekly but we only mow 50 yards Thursday And Friday. Monday through Wednesday landscaping maintenance.
Another great video, Sir. I just wanted to mention some Osha approved Bluetooth ear pods brand called Elgin. They are awesome with or without music. The music does not go super loud but it is more than plenty with noise reduction ear pieces. Just thought I would share in case you didn't know. Have a great rest of your week!
From what I've heard, that once you let 1 cucumber get overripe, the whole vine will die . It's done It's job. Keep harvesting and the vine should keep producing
This made me laugh, I am the exact same way! So organized until I need to be! This is great real life footage that WE ALL go through but act like we don’t :)
Pull the Ole bota up, tie a tow strap to the grapple, and under the frame behind the casters and lift em up. Change and sharpen with the rbg bout once ever 2 weeks
Having walk behinds encourages me to change the blades more often because you just tilt them back use the impact and drop it back down couldn’t be easier
Scag SFC 30. Same blades for 2 years. I mow 25 clients a week. See a handful of stragglers now so I’m debating to sharpen or just buy new blades. I don’t know when to actually do either one. So many opinions out there!
If you don’t have a slick efficient way to swap new blades out by now, brother you’re missing the boat. You should be able to lift lower, swap blades, set her down in 3 minutes tops
Sharpen blades 15 hours max. I have 2 sets of standard blades for both my mowers. 1 set of gators for leaves in the fall. As wet, green and thick the grass is right now, I want to throw that grass far as I can.

Agreed, there's something so nice about mowing a lawn with fresh blades...
That's ridiculous 7 days? That's not living! When you get old you will not be happy you did that.
It’s temporary. I don’t have a wife or kids at home so it’s just to make things easier when I get older.
It is nice to know I am not the only one that has days like this. Thanks for sharing

Dude
This is my favorite video of yours to date. Mowing, garden, animals, life, and seeing a happy couple living.
Good job.

I had a day full of struggles like this today. But I sharpen my blades once a week and clean under the deck whenever it needs it.
Congrats on your garden it’s looking good. Thanks.
You can always use a floor jack to raise the mower to remove blades. I use my tractor bucket sometimes too 😂

And indeed, Jamie is Beautiful. Garden hair rocks, too 😍😂
I sharpen or change my blades on Monday and Thursday mornings and I cut 6 days a week.
I totally UNDERSTAND the struggle is REAL!🤣💯💪🏾
We all have days like this Jonathan. Don't feel bad.
Haha, 💯 just keeping it real over here
I sharpen blades right before mowing my own lawn, about once a week, and replace them after about 3-4 sharpenings.
Have to go back to a wrench to get the bolt out its a pain in the backside but it works
We got potatoes going again this year, so cool. Fox got our chickens not too long. You can get a grinder and hop under the mower and grind the blade directly to sharpen it.

Beautiful home and family man cheers ☕️
❤ great “real life” video right there! I thought you were gonna loose it on those mower blades 😂😂
I usually can’t pop sharp blades back on after taking old ones off. Here in NC we have to scrap decks a lot or at least I do
😆 🤣

This is exactly what I do... Buy dozens of blades and keep putting on fresh ones then sharpen all at once and repeat the process.
Thank you for that, I’m considering starting this on. Smaller scale but NEVER considered blade maintenance. Too focused on which lawnmower and client saturation.
LOL you had me cracking up. This is exactly what would happen to me. Forty five minutes later blades are still not off. :)
How often are you guys changing or sharpening your mower blades?
Not often enough
Now, usually daily. I do, occasionally, bring a spare set to swap onto a mower if I've been using the same mower all day on less than pristine lawns. From what I've heard, that once you let 1 cucumber get overripe, the whole vine will die . It's done It's job. Keep harvesting and the vine should keep producing
That's exactly correct... If the cucumber gets too big it will be full of seeds then the plant will die.
You have an awesome property
Absolutely had pretty much exactly the same day, same issue same reason
😂
Ha, just keeping it real over here
This made me laugh, I am the exact same way! So organized until I need to be! This is great real life footage that WE ALL go through but act like we don’t :)
💯 , just keeping it real over here 😂
I sharpen my blades every10 hours roughly. Harbour Freight Fischer 750lb Heavy Duty ATV/Moower lift works great! $279.00.
Pull the Ole bota up, tie a tow strap to the grapple, and under the frame behind the casters and lift em up. Change and sharpen with the rbg bout once ever 2 weeks
Yep, that's normally what I would do! Both my skid, and floor jack were not here 😂
Whats Jamie’s homemade pickle recipe? I have 8 cucumbers ready to go and will pickle them as well!
I'll have jamie comment on here with it!
Need to get you a Hoist for your pole barn for when you're changing blades at your house. Lol
💯 I'm going to Harbor Freight this week and grabbing a chain hoist.
14:04 "I will eat that worm!"🤣 Its mango season here and I mite eat some worms too haha!
This corn is a big deal! 😂
Having walk behinds encourages me to change the blades more often because you just tilt them back use the impact and drop it back down couldn’t be easier
Ya, I bet... that would be super easy.
Ever day
This is why I like walker mowers. lol.
Just had to give you some fun on the blade swapping. Things arent always easy on walkers either. Lol.
I only sharpen mine once a week
No complaints
Every 10 houses I do I get mine sharpen .
lol Hi to the goats 😂
Luv it Bro!
I’ve used the same set of blades for two years. Lol I guess I suck. But my 25 clients never complain.
Hahaha, wait what?!?!
Scag SFC 30. Same blades for 2 years. I mow 25 clients a week. See a handful of stragglers now so I’m debating to sharpen or just buy new blades. I don’t know when to actually do either one. So many opinions out there!
hi ,coco & honey.

Did you even watch the video? 😂
I sharpen blades every 10-12 hrs.
That's probably what I SHOULD be doing...
Once a week
Sharpened blades every day, unless I only put less than 4 hours on the blades.
Sharpen blades 15 hours max.
I have 2 sets of standard blades for both my mowers. 1 set of gators for leaves in the fall.
As wet, green and thick the grass is right now, I want to throw that grass far as I can.
Yes, it's been THICK lately
I love goats.
They're sooo needy 😂
I NEVER SHARPEN MY BLADES NEVER!!!!!!!
Team no sharpen 😂
buy a lift from harbor freight
def
If you do mowing everyday, blades should be sharpened everyday
What if you only cut a few yards? I typically go by hours.
I believe you sharpen your blades every 40 hrs.
Every two weeks
