her brother, Paul Abbott, was engaged to a friend. When their father wanted to leave, Mimi had to give Tom up as tribute so they would leave them alone as long as she keep her lips sealed

Abbott is an interesting name. I grew up in the same place and time as the Spickler kids. Only one still uses the Spickler name. Abbott (from my research) came from maternal grandparents. The grandfather's surname was Abbott and the grandmother's middle name was Abbott. Very odd! Two kids came from Phil's first wife. Two from the second. At the time I thought Phil's wife was Mimi's bio mom but turns out she wasn't. Never did hear the story of what happened to their bio mom.

Pat Benatar, Susan Sarandon, Demi Moore, Lisa Wilcox, are all entertainers that are using their first husband's last name. They had already established careers with those names so it'd be hard to start over with a new name.

I've decided you can't leave the cult of Scientology. You can THINK you left, but it never leaves YOU. It's always in your brain. You just can't do ANYTHING else!

they never go away. mail and calls for 50 years after i left. my sister gets PILES of mail weekly. we've been gone 50 years. i also have to say i'm a cult of s magnet. no matter where i go or what i do, i end up with cult living literally next door. moved out to the boonies and next door was the mother of staff at the org in my old state!

    February 18, 1954.
That is Scientology’s birthdate. I know this because while I was listening to the audiobook of baby-faced messiah, that date was mentioned and that is also John travolta’s birthdate (I used to celebrate it every year when I was in school 😂). I immediately wondered if he felt a connection because of that. I once met someone who was 2 minutes younger than me, and we were instant friends JUST because of that fact.
Anyhow, I thought I would drop this info in, maybe it will help you to remember it also (as if it matters).
I know that you won’t even see this and RUclips doesn’t notify us out here if we get any likes or comments to our responses anymore so I’ll never even know.
    This was just for you.

i'm not remember the scoop off the top of my head, but he had lost the rights to the name "dianetics" and then created "scientology". clearly he got the name back later on. dianetics deals with the body. scientology, the spirit.

Haven't finished watching but you've touched on things I could probably talk about for hours. One of the most interesting things in researching (after I left) was how so many followed Hubbard around the globe. Malcolm and Kingsley that were the mission holders in Santa Clara, came from South Africa and Australia. Trained at Saint Hill. How they landed in the bay area I don't know. Phil originally was from Michigan. Ruth Minshull was also in Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her books were sold in the lobby of the mission but at some point they were banned. She was declared, as were all of them close to Hubbard at one time or another. Ruth wrote Miracles for Breakfast which was the only "tech" we knew about raising kids. Nobody was aware of the horrors going on out on the Apollo. Or the horrors that went on at Saint Hill. She also wrote How to Choose Your People, the tone scale book. Mimi's cousin from Michigan was Reed Slatkin, infamous criminal. The old newsletters document everyone's journey up the bridge. Mimi's clear number and date indicate she was about 12 at the time. She was a working auditor at the Palo Alto mission by age 14. In those days we had missions, Class IV Orgs, then higher levels at ASHO. You could spend years just on lower levels. Auditor training from Dianetics through Class IV was done at the Org. In the bay area, that was San Francisco. Then The Briefing Course and up to Class VIII auditor training was at ASHO. Mimi's training is all logged in the newsletters. Gathering you've seen the link to the 1982 Mission Massacre that is posted in the ex-forum. That is all I know on that topic and I think the info came originally from Jon Atack's files. I haven't seen anybody that knew definitely whether it was Miscavige or Hubbard behind it. Janis thinks Hubbard was being given bad info. In any case, the missions fed the orgs. Once the missions were destroyed, so were the orgs. We used to have introductory lectures at the Santa Clara mission at least five nights a week. A live human that had to be able to quote Hubbard verbatim. Not an easy task. Which is one reason they later were replaced with "intro video". I posted a ton of stuff about Mimi and Phil in the ex forum. Anything I posted that is in the member's only section I have no way to access since I can't log in. All of us not "team Rinder" got the boot. I'm gonna start a thread on bluesky and try to move over what I can of the postings. LRH had apparently threatened to kill Phil and Malcolm when they wouldn't join the Sea Org at ASHO. The stories go on and on ...

    • @vegan3650
      @vegan3650 14 дней назад

Actually, there is more on the massacre that was posted in the ex forum (the original one) by Ed Berwick. I moved it over to the newer forum later. Phil's second wife Teri married Ed in the mid-70's. Sarge Gerbode (PA mission) divorced his wife Julie that then married Phil. Ed and Teri got all the Spickler and the Gerbode kids. Mimi was probably already out on her own by then. Wiki has an interesting page on Sarge Gerbode. It's under his real name though.. Frank Gerbode. Anybody that listens to KQED in the bay area (public radio) has listened to ads thanking the Gerbode Foundation, like every ten minutes!

At the time, it was reported that Tom watched the movie, "Dead Calm" (which was basically Nicole's first introduction to American audiences as previously she had been in mostly Australian productions that didn't hit big in the US). After watching the movie Tom said to his agents that he wanted them to find Nicole, have her audition for "Days of Thunder" and that not only would she be his leading lady but he planned to be with her. (I guess when you're Tom Cruise you expect to get what you want). When they finally met for the movie he swept her off her feet and they were married very quickly (within a few months of meeting). He basically has no space between relationships (it would seem as though there is overlap most of the time as he was living with Rebecca DeMornay when he met Mimi Rogers, too)

I remember that Mimi Rogers was a fairly known actress at the time, she was somewhat older than him and was desperate to have a child with him. Her career was slowly declining while he was so young (23?) and had his career breaktrough with "Top Gun" at the time. Mimi Rogers always seemed neurotic to me in interviews and that crazy stare - yikes! I never knew she was in Scientology but it sure makes sense, thank you for sharing.
I remember that it was strange that Tom Cruise married Mimi Rogers, it seemed more like a hostage situation than a marriage :) Mimi was PXSSED after the divorce, seemed even more unhinged. Mimi Rogers was her name in the business, make sense she never changed it.
"Bosch" is actually a good show, very succesful, Susan Sarandon is in it but I can't remember seeing Mimi Rogers in it but it was a while ago.
Thank you for another great episode, you are a star! ❤✨️

I always thought Phil was the mission holder too. Then somewhere I read it was actually somebody else. I want to say Gerald French but I wasn't familiar with him back then. It may have been Sarge. Sarge's wiki page says he was the mission holder for awhile. The Feshbachs also later had one there. Rinder's blog in 2021 has jabber on the "Failed Mission Network". You can always see comments on all of these posts that add more context from people that were there. Sarge's wiki (Frank Gerbode): "Gerbode was for many years a Scientologist, and at one time ran the Palo Alto, California Mission of Scientology. He broke from the Church of Scientology in 1982. He later developed TIR, starting from Dianetics and working back to its origins."

Yeah, Cruise marrying Kidman to further his career doesn't make a lot of sense. Not sure what they were thinking when they wrote that. I think the writer let their biases influence them there, not that I'm defending Cruise. Just saying that they shouldn't slant stories when it comes to Cruise and Scientology. The truth is bad enough.
Edit: Sometimes people will stay with one name even when their legal name changes in the entertainment industry if they are at a point that they have built up a reputation and a little name recognition in the business. Susan Sarandon kept her ex husband's name as well.

That was the hook to give him confidence thru the auditing process . She probly did some independant auditing eith him outsude the irg before he went in and got him hooked We all know that first time can feel like a high .
