- I grew up listening to Children of Bodom and Alexi was a huge huge influence on me and many others. I remember being blown away by all his solos, but this one in particular. I am saddened by the news of his passing, and I spent hours blasting his music loud, which gave me the urge to play!

Same here! Back in circa 2001, I heard Deadnight Warrior and it changed my life. I had finally discovered "real metal" (was into Numetal in High School). CoB was indeed my gateway into other Metal, but has remained and always will be in my heart. I'm so happy I got to see them last year on their final USA tour! 😭

The way Alexi composed and played his solos in every of his songs are just 'in your face'. Dude could shred and make it melodic at the same time and sing his lungs out. He was a badass.

when I just started watching this i thought "man, maybe I should do something to honor alexi too". By the end I was like "nah... im good"
I was heavily inspired at one point when I was younger by COBs musicianship. Especially the first 3 albums. When I heard this solo it blew me away. Always surprises me even till this day. RIP Alexi

Man this song was hard when i was 14 and is still hard at 29. Not the kind of stuff you can play right with a full time job! At least its still a blast to listen.
Same here, I'm 29 and discovered CoB at around the age of 15 or so, never stopped listening to them ever since. At the time I've been listening to Luca Turilli and Blind Guardian and Dragonforce, I didn't even know what's up with melodic death, until I watched the Baker 3 skateboarding video, and one of the clips had the song Downfall from CoB. Melodic Death and melodic Black Metal is the music of my taste ever since

But this just keep reminds me of how good Alexi Laiho was. Jesus just visually when you look at fingerwork, for someone who can't play guitar this looks like a science fiction being done on a guitar. And it actually is. I can play this solo too with decent accuracy, and I get sweat on my forehead every time I do it. RIP Alexi and great cover man.
