    I'm suprised that Liza is being seriously considered for the team. Sasha will never give away her spot, even though she is injuired. She landed one quad in Vegas with an injured foot and she will land more at the nationals. There is too much at stake here.

    Man: I am Hanyu's fan here and hope he win (that would be fantastic). But let's be real. Nathan is so strong both mentally and physically. I think Yuzuru will win SP and Nathan will win LP and the all event. Yuma may be in the podium if some top skaters make mistakes.Woman: totally agree. Anna may win if Kamila messes up (like the way Nathan did in 2018). Pairs: I hope Sui - Han will win. They must not make any mistake. And know nothing about Dance.

    I agree that bronze in the Team event is 'reserved' for Japan but they can even aim for the silver. JPN Women and Pairs can outskate the US contenders, their men will most likely outskate RU but not the US, however it is points not total performance score being summed, so it does not matter that Nathan wins by 100+ margin😬..it all comes down to how high among the 10 teams and in the FS -among the 5 - the lovely JPN dance team is placed. And if that difference for the US is enough to compensate for the [potential] ladies and pairs advantage JPN might have over them.

      There is also the factor that Nathan might not want to do the team event with it being so close to the men's SP.

    I am loving these lists! Got some things to add.
    1.) DO NOT COUNT YUMA OUT! Although his Grand Prix competitions weren’t as competitive, I really think there is some star power in him. He is the reigning World silver medalist and he can be a dark horse.
    2.) If Rika is back, healthy, and skates clean with her triple axel and quad sal, she can really disrupt this Russian sweep for the podium.
    3.) I really think that Japan might take silver for the team event because we know that they are strong in men and women (no matter who are their representatives) but the addition to the pairs team triumphs the US that is pretty much relying on mens and ice dance.
    4.) Kolyada is bringing back white crow!!! If he can bring the same magic that program had last season and even improve on it, I think he can be another contender
    5.) for pairs and ice dance, I think these are going to be the most exciting. I think the top 2 for pairs are locked (don’t know positions but I would prefer Sui/Han) but that 3rd place spot is so interesting. For ice dance, the French team is a lock to win as long as they keep the magic. But 2nd and 3rd are a big mix, the Russian teams, the us teams, the Canadians, and THE ITALIAN TEAM~
    Figure skating is so exciting right now. I am so excited for the Olympics!!!

I mean at worlds she would have easily beaten Liza if it wasn’t for the fact that she landed in 12th after her short. If she had landed in….lets say 10th and did how she did in her free she could have been second and maybe in first in worlds if she had landed just one more quad in her free. Like I mean who else do u know can go from 12th place to 3rd…wow. And also yea Sasha has not yet landed all 5 quads at an actual competition but at test skates she did it amazingly, if she does that at nations I mean cmon…who’s score would be able to beat her 5 quads. I wish her all the best though and great recovery. I see Yuma getting on the podium, and I think Nathan should actually be worried. I honestly don't think anyone can beat M/G if they skate cleanly, based solely on their tech points. But my hope is actually for T/M to skate cleanly and take it. I just don't think S/H look like they have any fight this season, and the cut of the free isn't inspiring.
    I think the ladies podium is spot on, but don't count Anna out for gold if Kamila has a bout of nerves.
    As for dance - you're crazy if you think S/K aren't getting silver. You're correct that they don't deserve a medal, but politics will get them closer to P/C than they deserve. An opinion is still just an opinion. If you're insinuating that only people from the US like/favor Nathan then you're wrong because he has fans from all over the world too, including Japanese fans. I would imagine most people who have been watching figure skating the past quad(at least those who are willing to be honest) will feel he is the favorite in Beijing. Hanyu performance is mesmerizing throughout, in a way that is something else. I’ve been skating and watching skating for 35 years and Hanyu is very special to me among men. Actually I enjoy Shoma more than Nathan too when he is on a good day. I don’t have to be Japanese for that. For ladies, i’m not Russian or Japanese, but I can’t point to a single American skater that is even close to those right now. No not Alyssa. Not even when she’s on a good day I don’t she will ever be my favorite. I have no idea who's going to end up on the men's podium. There are so many skaters with such great momentum heading to the Games. Nathan is still looking strong, although I'm worried about his 4Lz. He's fallen on it twice in the SP at back-to-back international events, and even if he manages to rebound and have a skate similar to Worlds, that mistake could cost him gold if the other men skate up to their full potential. Yuzu is a wild card, but he's the one person who can beat Nathan in a SP right now. He could also finish fifth or sixth with a poor skate. Shoma is riding a wave in his return to glory, but he's still been a little sloppy and inconsistent. Vincent was really making a name for himself after Skate America, but his URs and issues at NHK can really hinder him. However, it probably didn't help that he had to compete at Nebelhorn and will hopefully be in top shape in time for the Olympics. Yuma's the only podium contender who didn't compete at the last Olympics, and is on the perfect trajectory in terms of his season and peaking to medal if he can keep his nerves under control. Misha has been struggling jump-wise, but if he can turn things around with the return of Nureyev he can always challenge for the podium. So that's what, six men and three Olympic medals? And since it's the men, we're guaranteed an extra side of chaos and drama!

    . She is in a class by herself and is artistically flawless. As well as technically proficient. I honestly cannot see her being defeated. Even by quad Queen, Sasha Trusova. Whose signature skill is landing quad jumps but lacks the artistic beauty of both Valieva and Scherbakova.

    • @divinearia1601
      @divinearia1601 2 года назад +5

      @@Sayu277...give me a specific example of Nathan getting an undeserved +5 in GOE and we can discuss the bullet points. First off, you exaggerate so much with your "jump drill" comment, I can't even take you seriously. Secondly, as ALL skaters up their number of quads, they tend to throw more transitions out the window. That's not unique to Nathan. You'd be lying to yourself if you believe that. Yuzuru left off some of his transitions in his 5 quad program at the 2019 GPF, and even his stamina could hardly deal with it. The performance became a mess.
      Point is, trading out some unnecessary transitions for quads is the perfectly logical thing to be doing in a system where quads are weighed so much more heavily. If you're unhappy with the rules and the system, go talk to the ISU. Nathan is merely doing what he needs to do in order to win a competition. You can't blame him. If the other skaters were capable of doing quads as well as Nathan, you bet they'd all be doing the same thing: more quads, less difficult transitions. A comparison of how silly your complaint is: in basketball, shooting the ball into a hoop is how you win and you're all upset that Nathan is focusing most of his attention on shooting the ball into the hoop and complaining about how he isn't doing more fancy footwork when he's dribbling. I can guarantee that if skating was more about transitions and not about the jumps, Nathan would be focused on transitions.
      I'm not going to make any assumption about how much some unknown skater from some other federation would get if they did the same program to the same quality of Nathan. I do think that if they did get a lower score, it would be more-so because they are a no-name skater, not because of their country. All the super star skaters have this "star power" advantage though, Yuzuru included. It isn't exclusive to Nathan.

    • @adaa.8757
      @adaa.8757 2 года назад +3

      @@divinearia1601 Sorry to but in but your basketball story is a prime example of not understanding the scoring system in figure skating. There are much more complex rules and variables in this sport.
      The total score for each program consists of 2 sets of marks: technical and components. Technical score consists of the elements' base values and grades of execution.
      Base value means the more difficult the element, the higher the score. It is similar to what you explained in your basketball story with shooting the ball into a hoop. Just basic addition of numbers.
      Goe is about quality (not quantity). Then components are divided into 5 categories - skating skills, transitions, performance, interpretation and composition.
      So your basketball story starts to fall apart big. That fancy footwork while dribbling actually gets counted in figure skating, either as a step preceding an element (goe bullet) and/or transition and/or composition and/or even performance depending how a skater presents it. It makes the program exponentially more difficult in various aspects: stamina, concentration, control of speed/pattern, balance, synchronization with music. And it is no secret the more base value oriented the program is the more likely it is going to lack in choreography. Some skaters are better at technique and some at components. Nothing new under the sun. So the scoring system should assure that the most balanced performance of the day can actually win.
      As you may have noticed nobody complains about Chen's high base value. The complaints are about his high goe and components. And thankfully, most people do not blame Chen himself but the broken system.

    It's Nathan VS himself in the men's for that Olympic gold, IMO. I don't know what it is with the 4Lz in the SP, but it has been giving him a little bit of a fit. He does fine with it in the FP so I really think it's just a mental thing at this point. If all he's after is a gold medal, he could easily play it safe by taking out the 4Lz and just doing a 4F, 3A, 4T+3T. It seems he wants a little piece of Olympic history in breaking his personal best records in the SP, FP, and total though so he may decide to stick with that risky 4Lz, 3A, 4F+3T layout.

    • @pado_hyuck
      @pado_hyuck 2 года назад

    • @divinearia1601
      @divinearia1601 2 года назад +1

      @@pado_hyuck...he can do the 4Lo but it's not a jump he does all that often or one he would choose to put into a program. In general, he doesn't favor edge jumps, and I'm sure he's only even bothering with the 4Lo in the FP because he has to have it in order to do 6 quads. The 4F and 4T, though, are super reliable for him.
      Anyway, doing a 6 quad program is _NOT_ an easy task now with the rule changes after 2018. You have to maintain 5 different types of quads at the same time and that's nearly an impossible task for any skater(similar to how nearly impossible a 4A is). Usually, when you're doing a 5 quad program, you have a little more option to switch out a jump if one doesn't seem to be working. When aiming for a 6 quad program though, you have zero choices(unless you'd rather throw in a 4A)...so if Nathan can accomplish a 6 quad program at the Olympics with 5 different types of jumps, it would be quite an amazing feat and make Olympic history.

      I’m confused by your comment. You say Nathan should come after the Japanese but then that the Americans could win the whole thing? I guess you’re trying to say that subjectively you think that the Japanese skaters are better? Because the scoring has to take into account certain things and Nathan has all those quads and if he lands them he will get a certain score that will be hard to beat. For me Hanyu is sublime and moving and amazing. I really like the other Japanese male (and female) skaters as well, though Uno had a few off seasons. Nathan is a great athlete and I respect him tremendously, but I don’t feel the same way about his artistry as Hanyu. So in that sense for me gold is Hanyu. But I can see him losing and he sometimes does. Maybe you’re saying something like that.
      For women, the only skaters that I see who are even close to the Russians or the Japanese. I do not consider Alysa Liu close. She may have that sometimes triple axel but she is comparatively slow and low. Karen Chen is a very elegant skater, but it’s not enough and I don’t think she’s going. Amber Glenn isn’t even on my radar to compare with the Russians. (Not hating, in fact I am American, but sport is sport)

      As much as I think everyone would love that its very unlikely. If it were Kamila and Sasha or Sasha and Anna she were competing with it would likely but Kamila is so hard to beat with that program and Anna is mentally very strong competitor and doesn’t falter easily and that would be the way Liza could sneak the silver. but you never know! Let’s see who is even going to go!

    These are some wishful podium spots. The Russians will medal in ice dance even if they just hold their opening pose for 4 minutes while the music plays. I like your pairs pick, i hope against hope it happens. Sui and hahn are 10 points better pcs than g/m. If a russian team has to win, im hoping for t/m, they look so improved this year with classic speed and lines. Scherbakova for gold (nerves of steel), and Trusova definitely makes team. She will rotate 5 quads at russian nationals, wont matter if she lands em (like worlds last year). Edited to add: kagiyuma is the sleeper dark horse to medal - so smooth and consistent and 'olympic' gladiator music. I predict we dont even see yuzuru.

      The officials are boycotting. Why should the athletes?!
      The Olympics are a non-political sports event. These athletes have trained for years for this moment. Why should THEY lose out on what they've worked so hard for?! It's not their fault a bad venue was chosen 🤷🏼‍♀️.

    • @oyinolubayo7079
      @oyinolubayo7079 2 года назад +5

      Right….so all those athletes who have worked so hard their whole life should have to suffer consequences then? The officials are already boycotting it, I really hope you aren’t talking about the actual athletes. I mean would t it makes sense to push for them to hold the Olympics somewhere else rather than just people not going?

      @@lindatannock I have to agree. I’ve already suffered so much. Many careers have been tortured. They likely are stressed with uncertainty even still. No need politicize Olympics any more than it has to be. There’s enough problems in the world. Let sports be sports

      Sadly, risking one’s health in order to achieve Olympic gold serves no real purpose at the end of the day. Both the physical and psychological pain endured by athletes especially throughout this grueling field often leaves indelible scars upon extremely young athletes. Which will linger on for years.
