@@Eltipoquevisteayer What OP meant (I presume) is that you can't use the strategy to attack a big stack with a stack of only 1 pixie to trigger it's retaliation. After that you can normally use your other stacks to attack and get retliated on those.
I played the basic version of the game ( no mods), I think if your army sloths are ful and if you just have upgraded skeletons your hero would generate ypgraded skeletons. Do I remember it right, or is it about advanced/expert necromancy, etc? I did not played necro for years (a casual single player), so I do not remember excactly?
For sprites I think that no retaliation perk is not always an advantage. If you have it you cannot use 1 stack to take enemy retaliation. I still agree on their place in this list.

blue pixies no retal ability might be detrimental because you can no longer take retal using 1 stacks, so in that way they are a bit worse
They are way too squishy to be used as foder, you may get 1 and maybe 2 retaliations until they all die

Basically, pikemen are the most chad. You don't upgrade them because they are strong without the upgrade.

you're correct, if your slots are full you'll get upgraded skeletons
