Just found your channel layout is looking good. Those wills kits do seem daunting at first but apart from a bit of patience especially when cutting through the thick material they’re not too bad once you get the hang of them. I got a plasticard knife which helped and features like windows I’d mark out on the plastic drill a series of small holes and cut the plastic and file to shape after.

Hi westernSignalman thanks for the comment. From watching your 009 layout build and mike & richard from hornby magazine inspired me to build this layout so thank you. Yea im not the best at doing kits like that when you have to measure out where doors & windows are needing to go, Yea i have a few different knifes was thinking about using a dremel may just give it to a club member to do for me. Again thanks for the comment cheers Dave

@@BeetonHoughJunction no worries Dave, it’s nice to know my layout inspired yours, it’s a great gauge to work in. The cottage on that layout was my first go at a wills kit but I don’t blame you for passing it on to someone else to build they look good but they are time consuming. Good luck with the build I’ve subbed to follow your progress

@WesternSignalman i refer back to it now & then, how did you solder the track bit nervous on doing it may do a test on some spare track i have left first, can put quite alot in a small space compared to 00 guage. Yea i dont want to mess it up with how much i paid for it. Thanks for the sub been following your channel for awhile look forward to your next update

@@BeetonHoughJunction now your asking it’s been some time since I laid it 😆 knowing me I would have soldered to the rail joiner rather than the rail where possible. If I do solder to the rail (which I’m actually doing right on my boys n gauge layout) I’ll cut the webbing away between the sleeper and use a fine tip on my 25w soldering iron and tin the rail and tin the wire and then place the wire on the rail and heat the solder so it joins with the solder on the rail. It’s taken a lot of goes for me to not melt the sleepers but I’d say I was pro at it now 😆 I think it’s all the practice I’ve had on n gauge track.
I’m planning a new OO9 project so should be starting that just before the end of the year hopefully.

@WesternSignalman yea ive drilled holes ready for wires to come up and were theres gaps between the end of the rails is where im going to be soldering the droppers to im not going to over ther top with droppers every so often, just got a new soldering iron an it has fine tips with it thankfully. I did have a thought doing the old 00 layout in N guage see how much room i get in the shed when i get round to getting it. Well look forward to seeing the videos on that.
