Nick and I are fairly close in age...there weren't bike helmets and I remember flying over the handlebars more than once while jumping and doing crazy things. Yes I was hurt but I never stopped, if there wasn't blood or bones sticking out we just kept after it! Thanks for sitting down together and sharing your stories because we all need to hear them!
1:15:14-1:15:40 I really really really needed to hear that. It’s exactly what I did, used to lift hard n heavy in my 20’s, turned 30 and had a kid “life took over”. Here I am at 34 and I just needed that kick in the butt cause I have been trying to get back in the gym hard lately. You guys are the best 👏🏻
Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this - I am the same age as Nick, competed in D1 college sports in the SEC, have 3 kids, rode my bike everywhere as kid, so much enjoyed your conversations and can relate so much to so much of what you talked about. Hopefully that "rub some dirt on it and get it done" work ethic, attitude and toughness makes a come back. Love both of you, thanks for this.
I'm not even a weightlifter but inspired by alot of you guys. It surprises me the stigma of big men involved in powerlifting don't get separated from the bodybuilding aspect enough because every single strongman I follow are the most humble and driven humans you could listen to or meet. I've actually become a fan more so the character in the sport has me rooting for them all in a way no other sport can. When you see the guys that finish go back and push their opponents to succeed with them is also the most humbling process to witness in all sport. All the guys pushing to their limit should be proud no matter where they finish one tournament the fact they are pushing theirself to the maximum limit their body can manage or even to the point of nose bleeds while still striving is just amazing to watch..this is the definition of living life to the full. Huge respect 🙏

Knee issues have kind of messed up my squats, although I'm still looking into working my way around that, as well as some rotator cuff issues. I've got a healthy collection of USAPL trophies and medals on the wall of my own gym. At 19 I started purchasing equipment, and for years now I train in my own place, which, since I work fulltime, makes things easier. There's no school like OLD school brother! Shoot, a week before I hit 50, in my last open meet before switching to seniors, I beat two guys, 26 and 28, on my way to winning the 242s and best lifter. Age is a freaking number!

The one issue with aging is that tendons lose elasticity and discs lose volume, essentially we stiffen up and shrink! lol. So yes, the muscle can always gain strength but the tendons become more prone to rupture and that’s just the facts of aging. Two people that I have come to love and respect so much! Brian, I don’t think you will see this, but I perform and analyze interviews for a living and have a few reflections. I recommend that you consider letting your interviewees elaborate a bit more rather than responding with your own context. I think trying to connect with the perspective of those you were interviewing is powerful, and I think in many ways effective during this episode, but I feel like certain topics could have been explored even more deeply if you had given the proverbial floor to Nick even more. Regardless, it is clear that the rapport you have with Nick has enabled you to cover some really powerful topics together. I wish you the best with this podcast and I’m excited for your ongoing efforts!
