How about this japanese kid at 3:50 who plays exactly the same. There's nothing amazingly difficult on that intro: ruclips.net/video/51QgQYIW-wY/видео.html
@@micowikstrom7182 The Japanese kid is very good. There are many kids on youtube mimicking the greats. Coming up with these original sounds in the first place is the hard part, mimicking them is the easy bit! Lots of kids can play Eruption, but non of them can come up with something original.
I had never seen Cozy play up front before, this close! Thanks very much for that. The guy was a phenomenal drummer. And from what I understand, a very decent human being. RIP Cozy.
It isn’t about how “hard,” or technical, the piece is to play. Does the intro fit with the song? Was it something original for that particular time? How is the delivery? Does it inspire? Cozy Powell checks all those boxes and delivered them with amazing power and feeling that came to inspire generations of future drummers. Sure, it’s cute to watch RUclips videos of an 8yo kid replicating a drum track. - But those videos are nothing more than a compliment and a testament to the greatness of the artists’ work, who continue to inspire all these years later.
19/01/85 - amazing and memorable day. I lived in Rio and was at the first (and best) Rock in Rio ever, prancing around backstage, having been taken by Ronnie Biggs and left on my own, obviously, as I was a nobody in that kind of realm. I happened upon the set of 3 "revolving drumkit" festival setup, a great novelty back then (at least in Brazil) and was looking interestedly at the kit I assumed to be Cozy Powell's ("I played drums in a band back then, you see", as Ronnie Corbett would say in the chair) and in walk Mssrs R. Biggs and C. Powell, with Ron saying "go on 'en, 'ave go, mate" and I in "mock Englishmanism" said I'd better ask the owner! The owner said "yeah, go on, go on" and I took the opportunity to satisfy a curiosity about the tom-tom-bass-bass roll on Stargazer, which he showed me, which I then dutifully repeated. Still got the pair of sticks from that day. Unfortunately, no cellphone pictures, so the "paper picture" is still (possibly) flying round the Ether. RIP, Ronald Arthur Biggs and Colin Powell.
Danke
I like a lot of different genres of music, but for me this is one of the best songs ever, I so desperately want to learn this one but first I need to learn double pedal 😂😂🤣
. . . Nelson do Brasil !!!
@@hannes1734 But it's literally not. It's LRKK. Basically the same, I know. But it changes the sound a bit when it comes to the toms, so it's a bit of a difference actually.
not that hard folks. Instead of a triplet he does a quadruple. What Ian Paice does at the beginning of Pictures of Home is a triplet. I actually think Paice's intro is a little more difficult to pull off. Also, listen to the end of Purple's Flight of The Rat. Paice was a master at triplets. Easy on the hate fellas, Cozy is one of my favorite hard rock drummers.
He makes it look so effortless! Nobody else can ever play this intro like he did. Love Cozy Powell.

@@burgundyexpress True. I only answered to your claim/statement.
It's Papa Jo Jones triplets, Dane one Bonham copied
Bonham copied too. All musicians are inspired by those that went before them. Cozy always sounded better in my opinion. @@einarabelc5
As drum intros go, it doesn't get much better.

One of the greatest drum intros ever! Fantastic foot job

exactly... once you can play any instrument so well, your skill just flows...
Can't find a single live version of this song with Cozy where they play Stargazer with this drum intro. It's always baffled me
The one and only Cozy Powell.
Literally a thundering machine woh. I love Cozy Powell Rest in pace ❤🩹🙏
Drumming genius.

Love Cozy, my biggest influence in drumming, always
Really Miss Cozy, I have photos of him back stage in New York During Rainbow years. First time I saw him he was in Bedlam opening for Black Sabbath.
I saw him with Bedlam, Rainbow and Sabbath. He was brilliant every time.
I fkn love Cozy... so relaxed but powerful.
Lol who comes to a video like this and then tries saying some other drummer is better? Get a life.

OH MY, SUCH A BADAASS, NO ONE CAN PLAY LIKE HIM, HE PLAYED AND LOOKED COOL,
When I get to Heaven I hope that Cozy Powell (and John Bonham too) will teach me how to play drums.

Amazing footage of an amazing drummer
So clean.
Leading with the left, consistency, power... Maestro
True, Leading LEFT!!!!!!

I love this man
Brilliant 2 minutes. R.I.P. COZY.
Missing from the video is the massive amounts of bass drum involved in fattening those fills. Cozy was the most bass drum forward drummer of his era.
Best Ever for me
🥲🥲🥲R.I.P.
I just deserved my subscription with this video
Cozy Powell is the one who make the intro
The best of all
Master!
One With The World!
Hi, nice to see you. :D
Powell, keit moon e john bonham.. I piu' grandi drummer di hard rock del pianeta!
The most intelligent use of two bass drums, I ever heard.
This is literally jus RLKK. That's what every metal drummer uses when they can't think of a better fill in lol. Still a great drummer.

Legend
Let's not forget he was once the driving force for Jeff Beck.
Amazing drummer
Cozy RIP 💕
Too much power in hands! R.I.P Cozy!
4 beats every time 💚🎧
Would love to see you give the opening to Stargazer by Rainbow a go. Cozy Powell was a monster.

Cozy was awesome!
Show me Bonzo ever playing a pattern close to this
bro you must asking Howard Stern
Cozy was a new generation kid and hence supposed to be "better" ie. more advanced, I guess.
Grande
Cozy Powell!
A god among men
it's like he's teaching advanced class on how to beat shit out of drums...

Cozy was No. 1 to be the Bonham succeror.
Volker Eilers what u mean succero..i do not understand
Cozy as the new Led Zep Drummer
Volker Eilers ok
Bonham himself couldn't play this.
what can he do on a single kick set?
Sitting really low!

Neal was a totally different style of (excellent) drummer!
Cozy actually was a musically better drummer then John Bonham
