TRANSPENNINE Express FIRST CLASS Preston to Edinburgh (The Truth)

- On my return journey from Preston to Edinburgh I travelled with TRANSPENNINE Express first class.
I was hoping to be able to try out on of the TPE Nova 1 trains (The new Class 802) - so I was quite excited as i waited.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be an old train. Actually not even one belonging to Transpennine Express.
In this trip report, check out Preston Station, the First Class section of the Transpennine Express Class 350 and the food and drink in First Class.
My opinion is that it's not up to much. I hope the experience on the new Nova 1 trains will be better and I look forward to doing a trip on one of those later.

Have you seen my Caledonian Sleeper vlog? ruclips.net/video/prmlsUfVoKM/видео.html
I have to say im a massive fan of the enthusiasm, just subscribed, Great video!!
+Tom Thanks 🙏🏻 Just a shame there’s no travel opportunities at the moment. Hopefully we’ll get back to normal soon! 😀
@@RogEdwardsTV Ive been dying to travel haha!
I quite like Transpennine Express. I have been on them twice and their new Nova trains are very nice.
I think there are 3 different types of Nova train. The Nova 1 is a Class 80x (can’t remember which exactly) so similar inside to the Azuma. 🤔
Great video - might I point out that only the Nova 2 runs on that route. The Nova 1 is reserved for East coast mainline services. Currently only 7 Nova 2s are in service and 5 of those 350 Desiros for TPE. The Class 350s are to be fully replaced by the new Nova 2s eventually. The catering service on the Nova 2s when I rode on one was pretty much the same. Hot drink, snack box and biscuits. Considering that have a kitchen onboard the new trains I hope they improve their catering service in the future. Anyways, great video.
Thanks - yes I realise now about the Nova 1 vs Nova 2. Appreciate your comment and let’s hope for an upgraded service once everything gets back to normal.
I do love a Stem Ginger 😊
Dunked in tea/coffee 👍 or 👎😂
@@RogEdwardsTV Never tried that, but I am positive that is nice. I usually buy Stem Ginger with a pint at Wetherspoons 👍
Don’t think it would be good dunked in beer! 😯🍺
@@RogEdwardsTV Agree. Prefer it as «starter».
My wife and I travelling to Manchester at the end of October from Newcastle. I was reluctant to book the direct TPE route due to regular cancellations. In the end I booked LNER to Doncaster, and then over to Manchester on TPE.
We are looking forward to the trip, as we are on first class, for our first time, as well as being our first time with TPE. It would have been £11.60 standard class for the two of us with a railcard, but only £3.40 more, at £15 for first class. Too good a chance to turn down. No doubt on a Sunday, there’ll not be much food, but a comfy seat for a journey of over an hour should be good, as long as there are seats available. No allocated seats possible .. I even contacted TPE and was told .. sit wherever we like
Hey thanks for commenting. Yes TPE do seem to be unreliable at the moment. Have a great trip. Let me know what you think of LNER First - I think you’ll still get the Deli Menu at the weekends! 😀
I did travel on TPE from Scarborough to York 2 years ago and due to it being Ebor week, the train was very busy and by the time I got to York there were hundreds of passengers trying to get on for Manchester. Luckily the new trains with two extra carriages and more seats have solved most of these problems.
Thanks! Yes those new trains make a difference! 🙏🏻
great video the train you were on was one of the last remaining class 350s we operate however the units due onto the west coast are are the nova2 class 397 units for Glasgow/edinburgh via Preston the 802s operate via Newcastle and the east coast onboard service is the same as the trolley however the customer host stays next to the first class in the cab end of coach E
Adam Winter Thanks! 🙏🏻 Hadn’t realised that about the Nova 1s being Newcastle and the Nova 2s being Preston. I’ve only ever seen Class 802s at Edinburgh Waverley. It’s just a pity they couldn’t improve the service offering in First Class to match the snazzy new trains.
@@RogEdwardsTV the nova 2s operate the first 3 services of the morning I know one operates the Glasgow 11:08 service to Manchester and the 16:03 from Preston
Dam this happened to me to I got
Both class 350s in the way back and my last train was meant to be a nova but it never came
2:45 it is quite the opposite. The TPE 350's were in the LNWR livery as they were getting transferred to LNWR as the Nova 2's (Class 397's) were replacing them.
Thanks 🙏🏻😀
@@RogEdwardsTV No problem stay safe 😀
Another great video Roger
Scotland Watcher Thank you! 🙏🏻
Your train was pretty rare the 350/4s are actually going to LNR hence the branding however it used to be a TPE branded train hence why it was doing a TPE service so it was a pretty rare catch at least you were given some snacks on your journey if you go on LNR first class outside of this route the only bonus is that light and curtain lol.
+Sam's Vlogs trains & more Ha Ha! But they are such pretty lights and lovely curtains...😂
Roger Edwards TV lol 😂
TPE are replacing their trains. I caught a three carriage one from Scarborough to York 2 years ago and for all it was punctual, it was very crowded and between Leeds and Manchester they're unbearable at peak times. I think things will improve with the Nova trains, but the older trains are poor.
Thanks. Fingers crossed the Nova trains will be a vast improvement.
Great vid, might I point out that its London Northwest not London Northeast
🙏🏻
Lol yes
What is so bad about a 350 anyway?
0:40 lol u can ask people want give up a priority seat because u over 65 now or under 65
Ha ha! I’m not 65 yet!
@@RogEdwardsTV are u early 60S
