Great video Dino, I recently installed the Zumo XT and I love it! I will be taking it down to Central and South America starting this Sep.
Also I find it really cool that you are a fellow Arborist, I was trained as a Climber for a small company several years ago here in BC, now I work for a municipality mainly planting, watering, and pruning boulevard trees but I still climb for side jobs on the weekends. Did you ever learn to climb the trees or always been on the consulting side?
One day your channel will be big enough you can do it full time!

Hey thanks for the comment, yes I climbed for many years, then ended up behind a desk. This new job supports a new crop of climbers and has a lot of hands on work. I'm really enjoying it.

Hey Dino! I came across your channel recently and binged quite a few of your dr650 mods. As a beginner who recently purchased a dr650, would it be possible to get a video about the basic tools I would need to maintain (if not mod) a dr650? Possibly with advise on where to save (tool wise) and what not to cheap out on? Either way, I'm still gonna be subscribed as I find your channel informative and interesting.

My condolences on the loss of your brother in law, never an easy time but now you have a copilot.
Great to hear you found a job in a field you love.
As always, a great video, thanks for keeping it up.
One question; do you have a link for the ball mount?

Hi Dino! Great video. Thanks for sharing such an explored adaptation for using Garmin Montana with RAM mounts. Do you mind sharing the combination you made to have the regular mount ball size with the smaller one, that fits so well into the Garmin end adapter? I am referring to the extension part with two ends, with a regular-size RAM mount and a smaller one, that can be noted at the 8:21 min. I am trying to order the same kit but am unsure about the small size end... Thank you ;)

@douglasraman hey thank you for the comment and question. the Garmin uses a 17mm ball if I remember correctly, I'll see if I can find the unit I bought. I know it came from Amazon.
      Thanks again Dino

Congrats on the arboriculture job. I used to do that work too (about 40 years ago...landscaping, grounds maintenance, mulching, root feeding, etc.). It's tough, but rewarding work, and to this day I can identify plants by their genus and species names, which impresses absolutely no one (Euonymus alatus 'Compactus' anyone?). I really enjoy your videos. I don't have a DR, or even a motorcycle, but I enjoy the videos nonetheless. I haven't ridden regularly since I was a kid on a motocross bike (my folks owned a Suzuki shop in the 70s - dad still rides an old Triumph at 85 years old), and I am thinking of the DR as an early retirement present to myself. I deserve it!

Dino the new job seems like a good fit for your many skills. Pleased for you. I have mounted my GPS in the same position on my DR650. I also used the 3 inch (75mm) double ball holder extension like you. This gives plenty of adjustment to suite riding positions. Good video, thankyou.

I think I will have to invest in something similar Dino. I did buy a phone mount which when installed felt quite sturdy, however a week later when I went to finally use it the plastic crumbled and it broke. Luckily I didn't lose a pricey phone while riding. Great vid BTW. Well done.

Love the new intro and R.I.P. for your brother in law. He'll surely love the adventures you head for next with a piece of him guiding the way. On a water-resisting note, I see the locking cable end has a bit of play, would a bit of petroleum jelly help seal it up and keep out the moisture?

I have the exact same setup for several years. I also have the ram mound clamp so I can use it on my ATV and in my boat as well as my DR650.
I think you’ll really like the Montana GOS.
