      @cbarmstrong1 thanks for the comment. I have not tried the light mounted on the bike yet. I have plugged it into power and the beam is very well defined although it looks very narrow, it's very hard to tell until I have it mounted and set up. I'm still on the fence about it until I can see mounted and try it on the road. Again, it looks well made and it's bright, I just want to see how it is on the bike. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful, but I don't want to give it a thumbs up or down without all the information. Dino

    Great detailed video Dino. Thanks for posting all the information on tools needed. My 18 DR650 has done 23000 km and was tied down on the ferry trip to Tasmania before I noticed leakage during my tour. Buying parts now to change seals so this video is invaluable. For handlebars, I installed Renthal 0809 RC High Bend 7/8” straight to the clamps without raisers. The stock cables and controls all fit without modification. I had previously raised the speedometer to allow more room for the clutch cable and so it fitted OK. It is slightly wider, higher and much stronger than stock. Since the triple clamp is tilted to the rider, the handlebars were tilted forward to mark 5 on the bars. Pretty happy with the bars.

    Dino, thank you. I installed the Pro Cycle kit back in, oh, I'd guess 2013 or so, and put the bike in storage in about 2015. Here, ten years later and thinking of using the bike again, some of this looked vaguely familiar (so I'm pretty sure I did a good part of it, can't recall measuring the float height). Now I'm wondering if I should just order another kit to have new o-rings, or if I should try to run it as it is. This video will help with the dis-assembly.

    I would recommend printing the fairing panels out of ASA for the final project. PLA and PETG are good, but no UV resistance and will quickly fade and become brittle (kind of like PVC piping). You could also use those quick 1/4 turn release screws to mount that top plate for easy access into the dash when needed. I’ve been thinking of lots of things I could possibly print for my DR and I’m rooting for you that this dash turns out the way you want.

    • @DinosTinkerShed
      @DinosTinkerShed 9 дней назад

      Thank you for the input, I have a buddy with a high end bambu printer who can print the final prototypes, he is a few hours away but i can send him the files when I get closer to the end and he is happy to print in a few different materials. The 1/4 turns are a good idea, ill have to see if there are some designed for embedding in a 3d print. I want the final product to be easily buildable for anyone who want to try it. Dino

    • @geoloseth

    Have you thought about building a chassis out of aluminum for rigidity and then build a 3D printed case around it? That still gives you the strength of aluminum but saves some weight.

    • @DinosTinkerShed
      @DinosTinkerShed 9 дней назад

      My original was all aluminum and your right, it is very strong. Your idea is very good, however the idea of the project is a print that could be built with less complexity for the average person to make or modify to suit their needs. In the future your idea may prove to be needed as the dash is tested or for a more robust dash for more aggressive riders. Thank you for your input, now my brain is turning lol. Dino

    It's looking great Dino. I've been experimenting with PETG vs. PLA. PLA comes out stronger in all of my tests, which contradicts what others say. I have some ABS on the way to see how that compares. You are a treasure to the community and can't wait to print this for my DR.

      @jonwoodworker glad you are enjoying he build, any recommendations on Adhesives? Dino

      PLA typically has better adhesion between the layers, but the strength of the raw material is higher in PETG. PLA also has a little lower melting point at which it will start to get soft (60c.vs 89c) , and I believe even at room temp it will sag over time more. PLA is also supposedly biodegradable so in theory you wouldn't want to use it on anything that goes outside, I've seen plenty of tests from people leaving PLA literally buried in the ground for a year and it still looks just fine. I believe it was CNC kitchen that did a really good video where he tested tons of different filaments and while I can't remember the final result I do remember that PLA had one of the strongest bonds between the layers, and if you're willing to give up a little bit of quality I believe you could crank the heat up on other materials like PETG to get better layer adhesion

      @@DinosTinkerShed I've tried a bunch of different glue's and watched every glue review for 3D printing. I've had the best success with 2P-10 Super Glue Thick and you can use an activator. CA glue seams to melt the plastic for a solid bond but can visually ruin a part if you get squeeze out. However, I don't believe any glue will work well for the tower....only testing will prove if it stays together. I would try joining all the parts in Tinkercad, load it into your slicer and use supports. Leaving off one panel for access and use the press in inserts for attachment. I believe the tower is open at the headlight, so that is one access point. And you could leave the top mounting plate off. Leaving the top mounting plate off would make it easier for someone to customize to fit their hardware. And if they F it up, they can easily reprint that one part. I would also increase the wall loops, percentage of infill, and try Rectilinear infill. You did such a nice job on the OG metal one adding the fuse box. I would figure out where you want the box to be and try to figure out some cross bracing inside. I'll send you an email with a bit more.

      Pla isn’t suitable for outdoor use, it’ll basically disintegrate in sunlight and rain, because it’s plant based and biodegradable . ABS or ASA is your best option for bike parts like that. Or even better ABS-CF or ASA-CF. Pla is great though for prototyping in the initial stages of a design

      @michaelhefford6420 thank-you for the feedback, the pla I'm using is indeed for the prototype phase, I will most likely have it printed by a friend with a more capable printer than mine once trials are ready. Thanks again for the information, I'm very new to the 3d stuff. Di o

Can t eat or do hardly anything but I been trying for 3 weeks to get the strength to go get them off. Like I gotta work in small amounts as I got no stamina...tks I'd appreciate it.

      @mattstewart4971 I am so sorry to hear about your situation, I have had several family members diagnosed with cancer, and it is never easy. I am not sure how I would be able to assist remotely, removal and cleaning is more of a hands on task. Just curious, where abouts are you located?

    Actually my 2024 user manual shows the throttle cable free play of .5-1mm and it isn’t measured via the threads on the adjuster, but how much free play the cable housing l itself has as it moves in and out of the barrel adjuster
