Anyone who is suffering from depression, when feeling like it's the right time to try and get off bed and just go outside... no matter how miserable you fell, GO OUT, WALK AND LISTEN TO THIS SONG.
So. It's may. 2023. I was screwing around with my 3rd and a half hand PSP and I found a 5 minute medley of tunes. This is on it. Also, Burn the Witch by QOTSA, and MATISYAHU is on this. Long story short, this song is dope and I just learned it.
Listen to the phrasing in this song. It's all so very specific. They do improvise a lot live, but even they themselves even describe their approach to improvisation as more of an "on the fly composition" where they will introduce phrases that are 8-16 bars long and employ many different chord changes which soon gain a certain degree of specificity after a few repetitions. They don't just jam, they write songs on the spot.
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot the login password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Ryker Lennox i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Gravely now we stare at indecision Climbing stairs for sale is insufficient Reading off the wall is too contagious We're capable of more, is that suspicious? Careful where you rest un-spinning Don't be fooled by youth And after all the stains have settled There's nowhere you're from Stairs are always left with limits Won't there be a roof? And as for all the change in schedule Compared to hear who won And maybe when you find it all again (And you will) Nothing's stopping, not ever here or there And you rarely ever find it when you need (You're still lookin') Someday, sometime, someone, somewhere
I think that might be one of their favorite meters. I say this because another one of their popular songs, Andy's Last Beer, is the same in the breakdown at the end.
Crazy, I know. I saw these guys in 05' with Michael Franti & Spearhead, Keller Williams, and String Cheese Incident. This random dude smoked me up right before Umphrey's went on and they just let my brain have it.
They are a jam band, but they are not your grandfather's Grateful Dead, nor your father's Phish. They are musicians creating and making me Chi-Town Proud.
Yo you guys ever hear Vasudo? I just saw them at a gig in NYC, they're dope as hell. New jam band crunchiness. Reminds me of Umphrey's a little I guess.
If i'm not mistaken, it is three measures of 6/4 and then one measure of 8/4. So the counting would go something like this: 1-2-3-4-5-6/1-2-3-4-5-6/1-2-3-4-5-6/1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 and repeat. Count it fast. The notes that are being played are quarter notes so you will say a number on every third note. I really still have no idea how to count that. All I can do is admire and throw wild guesses out there.
These guys are miscategorized. That's why they don't get the credit they deserve. Labels shouldn't matter, but they do. Which is why I think fans should start calling them progressive instead of jam band. They fall into both categories. But they are way too sophisticated musically to be only lumped in to that genre. It really underestimates what they can do.
Yes, but they should really be categorized as progressive. They check all the boxes and are super sophisticated. Calling them just a jam band does their art a disservice. Many future fans will dismiss them just for that categorization. It's not fair to them. Labeling art shouldn't matter, but it does.

hell yea bro!!!
How is umphrey's not a jam band? If I go to an almost 2 hour show and only hear 8 songs, you're either jamming or I'm robotripping too hard
They are a jam band, but they are not your grandfather's Grateful Dead, nor your father's Phish. They are musicians creating and making me Chi-Town Proud.
I am older than your grandmother, so don't play me.
This song reminds me of Phish. Phish does some pretty intense stuff.

My mind is blown at 2:50. What the hell meter is that?!? If I count it out slow, it sounds like 12341234567 (quadruple + septuple?) Someone help!

They r a jam band thats why we think this
