  • Hey guys! Today I am sharing with you some tips on how to find the perfect neutral eyeshadow palette. Picking out the right neutral tones can be tricky- some shades are gray and dull, others can pull too warm and orange. But I am going to show you some of my favorite neutral palettes and share with you where they fall on my self-created neutral scale, along with swatches and tips! I hope you find it helpful! Thanks so much for watching!

    I wish every creator did this! I’m a cool tuned girl. When reviewing them , maybe stating it’s a warm or cool tones would be a big help to us viewers. Or maybe help us understand how to see cool or warm tones in a palette. I always have this issue. Now it’s makeup and if u wanna have fun, totally have fun, but when ur trying to make something stand out understanding the tones to me anyways is so much easier.

      @@annadominguez9897Yess! And that's ALL of them. There are literally no light neutral shimmers that are actually cool-toned anywhere. Same goes for light mattes but you can at least find some mid-toned ones you can apply lightly and it can work. But it's incredibly frustrating to see palettes being called cool-toned and not being able to create one full look with them that is actually that. Cool undertones in neutrals are not a fad, we need them specifically for them to look "neutral" on us. If it shows up yellow on me, then it's not a cool-toned neutral.

    OMG - thank you so much for talking about the elephant in the room! I have a slightly cool undertone and consistently when someone says a palette is cool-toned, I get it and it’s too warm for me. Going Coconuts is one where influencers said “it’s cool-toned neutral,” but on me, it’s just warm. You are spot on about lighting and the reviewer’s undertone, and I would so appreciate if reviewers did a ranking of where on the cool to warm spectrum a palette falls. Soooo helpful! Thank you again for your great content!

    Love your videos and using a scale makes my marketing researcher’s heart flutter. Suggestion, if you don’t mind: make your scale a 9 point, so you have a true middle (5). In your notes, put the number before your links so if one listens, they know what those numbers mean, but wouldn’t otherwise; this will allow me to come back and quickly find what I was looking for. And just rate using whole numbers. (I know, I’m guilty of wanting to go in the middle at times too, but it always makes me feel that I haven’t used the right scale.) If you continue with scales, can you also do one for level of shimmer/glitter to matte? This is a critical factor for me in deciding what to purchase (I lean more matte, but do love a good shimmer at times.) Thanks so very much! And I hope you know I was trying to help, not being critical.

Warm tones look horrible on me, but I tend to get burned with purchases because everything seems to look cooler on my device screens than they actually are in person. Really impressed that you did this for your viewers girl! I have been in the fine arts and painting, portraits, mainly with oils and acrylics, and that is where I learned my makeup from, and went on to do other people’s makeup after learning about sanitation and other things that may not be learnt by an artist. Anyway, I had to learn how to paint a 3-D canvas that is skin not canvas material, but color theory never changes. I think some of us who know it inside out forget some people may need a refresher or a mini tutorial on the science of color. Good job for recognizing this and trying to help your viewers out!😊

As an artist I have to be able to tell if it’s a warm blue or a cool yellow. I would like to use your rating but I’m hesitant about the difference in our perception and understanding of colour. I enjoy your style of videos very much and love your makeup looks! Very skillfully done indeed! Thanks for all your hard work on our behalf. I love this idea! Everyone reviewing neutral palettes needs to refer to your scale! Although as a cool toned gal I think your whole scale leans a bit warm. My favourite neutrals are rare to find - pink toned grays! Grays with zero blue tones in them. ND has too much yellow in her "neutral" eyeshadows for me, even if the shades don't lean warm, the yellow makes them look off if I'm not careful.

    Just a recommendation but keep a matte palette of bright but deep hues of red, blue, yellow, orange etc. You can use very small amounts of these to cool/warm the tone of any other color. For example if you have a brown that's just a little too warm you can add very small amounts of dark blue and it will create a cooler brown color. You can also use white and black shades to change the depth of a color. It may take a little more time and some practice but you can create any color you like using your favorite formulas

    • @tomjones2157
      @tomjones2157 2 месяца назад

      @tinahickman6300 Doesn't work for spring skintone (bright, warm, light). Spring doesn't like any black or white or dark shades as this mutes down the color depth and makes everything look like grey mud. We want to remove the greige not add to it or warm it up.

    Your video is very needed. In my opinion the warm tones are way too predominant everywhere. When I started, I had no idea so my first pallettes were inevitably warm and for me so hard to work with. Then I got mesmerised online by the look of quartz pallet and made a leap of faith. When it arrived, all I thought was ‘’where have you been my hole life?’’. I use it every day with zero effort. I still don’t know why warm tones don’t work on me, I am not that cool, they just make me seem tired and old and sick 😄.

    This is fun! On my skin tone, the ND glam pulls so cool. I can get a neutral look that I like, but most shades look so grey and dull on my skin tone. The ND bronze and the ND zendo I love in the summer. They are both so warm. I love them in summer, but in the winter when I’m more fair it’s not as flattering on me. The ND My Dream palette, however, is perfect for me all year! It’s neutral enough for me in the winter, and it can pull warm in the summer. It is the most perfect year round neutral palette that I have. And it’s got a little color. Hands down my most favorite ND palette.

    I find this type of discussion about neutral palettes very interesting and it's good idea to make a video about. For example as someone who has fair skin that leans to having a rosy cool undertone it usually means that neutral palettes that suite me are those palettes that are either very in the middle of cool and warm axis or almost bit mauve leaning. A too warm toned orange bronzy palette will look bit off on me, just as anything too close to silver/ grey cool tones will make me look just very ill. Since the neutral palette has been done so many times and we have so many in the market, I would really appreciate that in the reviews there would also be a focus on to which type of preferences in terms on undertones the palette falls into, aside from evaluating the formula and textures in the individual palettes.

    I have the Alter Ego Shadow Kiss palette which is the alternative palette to the Natasha Denona glam palette. I love it and use it quite often! I definitely lean more neutral-cool in my preferences. I don't mind the occasional warmer look and I have been known to mix cool and warm tones together as well (I know what a total faux pas!). I also have the Alter Ego Harmony palette which is the alternative to the Natasha Denona Retro Palette. Alter Ego isn't quite as pigmented as the ND shadows, but for the amount of money I'm saving ($17 vs $69), I'm not going to complain about having to blend in an extra layer of shadow!

    The Natasha Denona Glam palette is my GO-TO neutral palette. It’s really versatile. There ARE some ‘holes’ though that I’ve filled in with singles. Soft Glam is MUCH too WARM. Neutrals ARE a challenge. Colourpop’s That’s Taupe is COOLER than Glam but VERY GREY. Maybe TOO GREY. The highlighter Flexitarian is a pinky silver that’s a amazing lid or inner corner highlight. Kush is a cool beige that’s beautiful. Both are the Supershock formula. Sephora Collection has some lovely singles. At $10 NOT cheap but some good formulas and shades. I just bought Chestnut(dark neutral matte brown) and Chock Shock, a SMOOth metallic in a neutral to cool undertone. I want to get a dark matte grey. The eye crayons, SPECIFICALLY the one in Grey is actually a cool silver grey.

It's always been raved about as the ideal neutral palette, and that probably what made me get it, but I struggled with it every single time I tried to use it until it made me actively hate it. No one buys a 14 shadow palette for a transition shade, a deep brown and a black, and other than that there isn't much there to create a full neutral eye look

    This is so useful! Would love to see you rank Sigma Ambience, Moira Endless Moonlight, and u know it’s old, but Hanging in Hawaii is still my favorite neutral. I always travel with Feeling Bubbly and CP charm school. Glad you talk about it, no one does!

    Another great neutral palette… that’s also quite affordable!!! is the mini Wishing You palette from the Sephora Collection. (It’s no longer showing online, but you may still find some, in store.) It was $8 and I bought several as Christmas gifts, during the last sale. They’re well loved, by me and the people I got them for. 😊

    I'm a person of cool tones and I've struggled a lot to find palettes with predominantly cool colors, especially here in Brazil. I saw that Huda Beauty is gonna launch Matte Cool but the brand isn’t available here so I will have to import it.

    Hey Mandy! This rating scheme is genius! I finally understand why I really don't like several of my eyeshadow palettes; I belong on the cool side of the spectrum, and I'm going to blame store lighting. Fortunately for me the few high-end palettes I have are smaller ones and all cool tones that I always love. All the rest have a few cool tones in them that I might use, and they're all drugstore priced, so no big deal when it comes time to toss kits that are only half used. You really hit it out of the park with this idea! Thank you for giving such good examples - you're a teacher at heart!

    What a clever idea to do the scale for cool to warm! Good analysis of neutral palettes and helpful. Thanks.

    Good topic to talk about Mandy! I will give perspective from someone with a warm-ish olive GREEN 💚 undertone. My beige's and brown's have to be very warm. Even when they say they are neutral, they all pull gray on my eyelids. From drugstore to high-end. I look horrible in gray , zombie or sick looking lol. The joys of being green 💚. Let's not even talk about foundation shades.

      I'm green too! So hard, do you have any suggestions on products, colors, influencers or anything you can recommend? I'm a light olive

    • @MrsMac3099
      @MrsMac3099 Год назад

      @@lauraswensgard3703 it depends if you are cool, neutral, or warm olive green. I lean warm and look good in fall harvest colors. But most Influencers on here ... So many fake tan and you can't even tell. Hanna Louise Posten is a very light green, idk I think she is more neutral? There is a RUclipsr on here that has some good info , Merriam styles. There are others on here ... That don't know what they are talking about also, watch out. NYX soft matte lip cream in Rome , and ELF lip gloss in black cherry are some newer lippies to me that I love. Reds I hate , except brick reds, aka brown reds. Maroon or burgundy, only neutral ones , or ones with a brown undertone. Even some berries , but not pink or purple. Neutral ones or ... Brownish berries. I am a fall season , but the more tan I get I look more yellow. The tan hides the green. Then I can wear some spring colors. I gave up on foundation years ago. I use concealer blended out well and some powder foundation on occasion. I would rather my own skin show though. Then everything pull , pink, yellow, or ashy on me.

    I bought the empowered palette yesterday it’s my first palette I’m really excited for it to arrive 😊 I’m a beginner and need to buy brushes ugh no idea what to get but I have some fluffy eye brushes. I usually used my bronzer as it’s was orangey warm toned as an eyeshadow and loved it. Or my darker contour shade to smoke it out :) I want the abh soft glam next. Or anything warm orangey etc as I don’t like too cool toned
