this is so true. I hated being african american, because I live in an area where I don't see women like me. I wanted to be lighter-skinned and have long flowing hair and that if I had those things my life would be better. Now that I'm older I see that I have my own kind of beauty, and that's more precious than any standard or measuring stick I could be put up against. It's hard sometimes, but I'm happier this way than I ever was when I wanted to be something I wasn't.

Girl you are a classic beauty. Dark hair and pale skin will never go out of style. Trends come and go. Also I love how you speak of your personality/soul, because let me tell you even though you are beautiful on the outside I always sense your inner presence that makes you very beautiful. I'm glad you brought it up. Our real beauty comes from the inside.

+Min Yoongi Jinius No. Don't. The new clothes won't look good on you ? Who has the right to say that ? Go out. Have fun. The look people will give you - if they're actually looking because believe me, most of the time they're not - doesn't matter at the end of the day. It'll all fade away. The only thing that actually matters is you.

i've never heard a beauty guru say anything like "invest in your education," and to tell people to work to improve their personality & their inside. you almost always hear things about how to improve the way you think about your physical appearance... which isn't inherently a bad thing, but it's nice to hear someone talk about the value of education and personality. 💛

Here in India ,I still see the beauty construct that only white/pale skin is beautiful even though 80% of the whole of India is brown and black, I had the similar struggle of accepting that my brown skin was indeed beautiful and that I didn't need blue eyes instead of brown or dozens of creams (like fair and lovely) to try and change my skin.
Love you so much for talking about this Diana!!

You are so amazing, inside and out. It really is comforting to hear someone so beautiful talk about struggling with their image. I've struggled with the way that I look pretty much all my life. I've been told I'm ugly simply because of my race and I've been taught that I'll never be beautiful because I can't have blonde hair or blue eyes or a model's body. But you're sending out the message that beauty is subjective and you can't let anyone tell you whether or not you're beautiful because it's YOU who has to tell yourself you're beautiful. You're a beautiful human being and I look up to you so much. Glad to know that I'm not alone in this cruel, vain, "beauty" obsessed society.

I have brown skin black hair and brown eyes, went to a predominantly white school and I didn't even recognize my heritage, physical appearance until kids would start pointing it out with jokes and racial comments. Now I'm starting to love my skin and feeling empowered as a WOC.

I also used to hate my hair and eyes too. I always felt like an alien at school for not having light skin or lighter hair and light eyes. I spent my whole childhood wishing I was white or trying to do soooo many skin whitening remedies, trying to dye my hair constantly picking things on my face then criticizing them to nothing and blaming everything on my race like why people didn't like me why boys didn't like me etc., but now I'm a proud POC/WOC.

Thankfully I tend to think more logically than emotionally. I don't worry over petty things like "am I beautiful" because *beauty is objective*. If I think I'm ugly, that doesn't mean other people will also think I'm ugly. If I think I'm beautiful, that doesn't mean everyone will also think I'm beautiful. There will always be people who think you're pretty. Or ugly but that shouldn't bring you down, who cares. Most people think they're ugly because they compare themselves to photoshopped girls with caked on makeup. Stop comparing yourself. Sorry but, no, not everyone is physically beautiful.

There is a huge difference between narcissists who think they can do no wrong and blame the world for their problems, and people who love to better themselves and lift others when they're up.
You are such an inspiration. You're not perfect, but holy goodness, are you a wonderful human being. All your imperfections are beautiful. People are drawn to your unique beauty, and you go and teach them that you're kind and hardworking and smart and a work in progress. The youth of the world needs more people like you to look up to! I know you don't owe anyone anything, but I hope you continue to be a positive influence for many years.

When I feel like I'm surrounded by shallow, stupid people I love that listening to you makes me feel like I'm not alone in the way I think. There are mean people out there but not everyone is like that. If I knew you when I was living in Moldova I would've been friends with you no matter what you looked like...I think you're a beautiful person inside and out. I think beauty, even though it seems like there can only be one standard for it due to social media, it's extremely subjective and everyone has positives and negatives and no one is perfect, even people who pretend they are or people who are considered perfect by the media. I'm sorry for the hardships you went through as a result of your weight as a child and teenager...I can relate to your feelings of loneliness very well and I would wish I could play sports and things with other kids or do activities my friends were doing and with the things you said about your family sometimes pointing out your weight I was constantly treated differently because of my health problems by everyone including my family except I have physical problems that aren't fixable so I still struggle and always will. For me, it has of course been difficult to look past the struggles and to appreciate myself for all the positive traits I have but it is something that I always try my hardest because I know I can't give up and I'm so happy that you've found a healthy and happy way of life and you're comfortable in your skin because that is the most important thing ever. I hope you only have the best and kindest people around you who know to appreciate you for all your intelligence and kindness that you emanate.

Thank you so much for saying your story. I am going through a very similar situation at this point in my life. For years I have been struggling with the idea of being or not being "beautiful." Often times I think about this, followed by sadness- primarily because I do not feel beautiful, secondly because I feel sad that I think about it so much rather than making a difference in other people's lives. Unfortunately, an effect of feeling so "not-beautiful" is that I do not want to go outside or be with friends, I would rather stay indoors and (sadly) continue these destructive thoughts. Makeup and veganism are two things that have helped me a lot. Makeup gives me the confidence that I don't have, and is an art form that I can help express myself. For anyone dealing with or recovering from an eating disorder (something I dealt with for 6 years) veganism is the most amazing thing that I have ever had the gift of finding earlier this year. Although it has not made my life perfect, it has helped me love my body for how my body is. I've stopped weighing myself. I know I have gained weight, but I feeling "clean" because I am only consuming foods that are good for my body. Anyways, thank you so much. It is inspiring seeing someone go through the same thing and ultimately reach a healthy place of self-love and self-acceptance. I figured I could share a few physical ways that I have reached the better place that I am at today.

You're so interesting. Take care, love from France 💙🌸

I went trough the same thing when I was a teen.
I was the ugly, chubby friend; I was depressed and all I did was stay in my room, on the computer and eat snikers and stuff like that.
After I turned 18, I started to slim and I felt better and better. It was all just because I went trough puberty and its natural to gain weight in that period. I guess my body is supposed to be thin, because my parents and all my family tree members are thin people. I helped the slimming with eating healthy and exercising.
Now I'm a 23 year old beautiful creature.
Thanks for the vid! It'll help a lot of people, I hope!

She has grown past this and believes now that beauty of the soul is much more important than physical beauty. She suggests to invest in one's education and personality because youth and beauty will disappear anyway. Hope this helps at least a little!

I'm quite pretty, I think, and very healthy. Overall I'm happy with myself. I also feel, though, that I'm ugly sometimes. And I am perfectly okay with that. My beauty is completely irrelevant. It makes no difference whatsoever in who I am. It's also very freeing to be ugly and not care. That's part of why I like going to the gym- I'm sweaty and disgusting and don't care in the least how I look. And then sometimes I look fine as hell, and that's cool too.

I never asked myself if I'm beautiful. I often think that I'm not pretty or not pretty enough. This was me in my late teenage years. I'm so insecure and conscious w/ my body. But as u grow older you would realize that u can do something about yourself which is, if u start loving yourself and embrace your skin and body you'll feel better. You can choose to be happy and you'll feel contented. What others think doesn't even matter. It's your life and these negative people must not affect you or try not to be affected. Do what u desires. it's your life. Love it.

I think Garu's life is perfect the way it is! Haha, you have inspired me so much. I am 22 years old and ever since I was 6 years old I have been having weight issues, getting over weight year by year, bigger and bigger the next grade that I move up in. I became self conscious in everything I wore and just wore all black and long sleeve everything just to hide my fat. My family would say rude things about my weight like when I was your age I was much much skinnier and things like that. That made me feel even worse and I only ate more and more just because the food tasted amazing and I wanted more of it. I started to work out at the age of 18 and began to see progress and changed the way that I ate and noticed a tremendous difference. I am happy at where I am now but I am not finished yet and so I will continue to better myself to become the healthiest I can be! Your videos inspire me so much, thank you Diana.

I was scared to at first but after I kept watching this I was honestly moved. I relate to so many issues on how you felt about yourself and it honestly reminded me that I'm not alone when it comes to things like this. This morning I literally did not want to go out because I felt so ashamed of how I look and I've just been cutting myself off from everything. You explained so much that I have felt my entire life.. I have dealt with so many similar things that you have.. Thank you for understanding and speaking about how it feels. I am so happy you are healthy & happy & more loving to yourself everyday. That is true self love, like you said. Affirmations really help me. I have about 8 different sticky notes saying things from "I am at peace" "I value self-care & health, I love my body" & 'I am beautiful, healthy, happy, grateful & loved" etc.. Great video Diana, have a lovely spring & summer darling! & Ahh yes the simple life of dogs and kitties lol, we must learn from their care-free lifestyle!

i think i really needed this. i'm trying to love myself and take care of myself more before school starts up again in august. this past year i discovered i had a bunch of health problems, and that caused my grades to drop, and i want to bring them back up in the upcoming year. i feel that everything you said in this video is true, except i think that if you truly believe that plastic surgery will make you love yourself more, then go ahead! thank you for always making quality, inspiring content.

I'm so glad that you realized all of this. I love you💜

I love the way you speak Diana! you are saying here some really interesting things. Sometimes i'm not sure if it's just media that influences us, I think it's more the community. In Eastern Europe teenaged girls are (were? hope so) pressured to be very..i don't know ..sexy? from 13-14 years ..which looking back it's insane. Also, the definition of "healthy weight" is usually quite thin and not at all strong. :(

Thank you, honey for this beautiful video and for you sincerity...
My "problem" was that I always have been very thin and never loved how I look, my skin, my chubby cheeks, my eyes, evrything. I never felt beautiful being a teenager and was trying all the time to "dissapear", to don't take risks, also with boys cause I anticipated their rejection and I avoided situations where I could be judged. For example conversation with girls about "the new crush".
Now that I grew up, I'm 22 years old, I'm still thin with less chuby cheeks lol, I feel better. I still have my insecurities but I feel better. I learned to appreciate my singularity, I learned to accept that I'm not going to please to everyone and that's okay. I learned to stop focusing on my bad experiences and remind myself that I had some good ones too. Every day I'm learning more about my self and I'm not going to lie to you, somedays I'm still being depressed about all this stuff, but it no longer takes all my time and mind.

I completely relate to you in the sense that we think the same. I struggled with the idea of beauty and where I fit into the standards from a very young age, and it wasn't until I graduated from high school and removed all of the toxic people in my life, that I started my journey towards self-love. Education is such an important part of my life and I totally agree with your point that our personality and knowledge stays with us throughout our lives, and youth and beauty are only temporary. I feel like I could go on forever, but I just wanted to say that I really loved this video and love hearing your thoughts on given aspects of life. I really like these kinds of videos, you speak very eloquently. Have a great day!xx

Not even two minutes in and I'm crying. Just that you thought you were ugly. And then foods was your comfort. I feel you. And your friends always only saying your eyes are beautiful but nothing else. People used to always only say I had pretty hair and face but clearly my body was ugly. Fat.
Can so relate. And I don't know you, though I've seen all your videos, but I am still so proud of you. Not just for losing your weight. But for saying these things. You don't have to and still you do. You are very strong!
Wish I could give you a hug. Wish I could have known you back when we were both bigger. Then we would have had each other. :) but you did it anyway. So did I. It's beautiful that you loved yourself enough to take care of yourself instead of staying in a depressing state of mind etc.
    you're a true fighter.

You're so lovely! I also think all the things you said, and i keep dealing with really low self-esteem. Back in the year i really hated myself, my face, my dark hair and my pale skin. The only thing i liked about myself was my body, cause i was really thin. Now i love my face, i really like to put on my make up and it really helped me to feel prettier. The ironic thing is that now i don't like my body, i became more inactive, and my depression issue is really more clear. I always think i don't deserve other people love. So i seek it and avoid that at the same time. It's really hurtful and i agree with you: the only thing that make you feel really beautiful is loving yourself and caring for yourself. I think it's the hardest thing in life, so i hope one day i'll be able.
Thank you for the video! :)

I can identify so much with this! about 2-3 years ago I was very depressed so I like you tended to eat a lot, it made me forget the problems. People would tell me, but it just hurt to be told I didn't want to face the problems. Nowadays I have realized and come to terms with my problems I still don't exercise, but I've definitely gone down in weight just because i started eating normally. I think it's really about coming to terms with yourself and trying to understand what is actually happening that helps you. Beautiful video Diana!

Its probably impossible to think that we are look perfect because the green is always greener on the other side, so I always believe that we should be just embrace our flaws and improve on it rather than trying to change it. Our face and body are ONLY thing that we got till the day we die. We can't wake up one day looking like Angelina Jolie, that's impossible, so why even think about looking like someone else?
Never try to be like someone, but try to improve who you already are. Be it mentality or physically. If it is something that you can't change, well then just fuck it and learn to rock it.

You are an incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. It is amazing to me that people only ever saw your weight and completely disregarded how stunning you are - both in your physical qualities and your personality. Whenever I watch your videos I think 'gosh, I'll never be as pretty as her' but from your words I realise that physical beauty is subject to opinion and more importantly to personality. And it only goes so deep. If you're lovely within, you'll be lovely without too. Thank you for teaching me x

We've all heard the saying, ' Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ', and it is true. You said something profound, about the difference between inner and outer beauty. Going by your story, you made a wonderful transformation in confidence and the beauty within as well as on the outward appearance. Your story is inspiring to many who are struggling and need encouragement. btw, I like your accent when you speak.
