    More Deets:
    Unexpected adventure, and saying yes to strangers, are ongoing themes for us. There is rarely a plan or any grand contemplation. We've done things we never dreamt of, in places we have never been to...all because we said ‘Yes’ to a stranger.
    Today’s tale is another one of those YES stories.
    This is all about that time we said yes to an enthusiastic British guy who offered to fly over to South Africa and show us where the best Catamarans are made.
    We knew our sailboat Curiosity was made in South Africa, but we had no idea just how steeped in boat building the country is.
    WHO ARE WE?
    We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living off the grid and exploring the world for almost a decade.
    Our first six years of travel were an epic road trip around North America.
    Now we’re on a sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
    Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild adventures, and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
    We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
    Life is an adventure. Extraordinary moments out there for anyone willing, and wanting, to go after it. Ya know life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
    And this is why we publish our lives on the world wide web. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.
    Living #OffTheGrid on a Sailboat for us is all about creating a more sustainable way of life. The more of the world we see, the more we want to preserve it. But, living off the grid doesn’t have to mean sacrificing modern comforts. We believe self-sustainability and comfort can coexist.
    From RV to sailboat we’ve lived off the grid for ten years and have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water and managing waste. You can learn more over on our website: www.gonewithth...

    Such memories , I spent a winter of 1979 building boats near Cape Town/Strand , long before the cat revolution for a well known 2nd generation builder ( compass marine). It was a different time but the passion for everything south African was the same and their pride in their work .

    The wing sail was very cool. They've been using them on racing boats for some time now. It's inevitable that this technology will filter down to small yachts because it has so many advantages.
    I hope the manufacturers consider to start transitioning away from diesel engines to electric motors and batteries with solar/wind turbines/hydroturbines. That would make the sailing experience even nicer with no emissions and quiet motoring.

    • @CyanOgilvie
      @CyanOgilvie 4 года назад +1

      They look very cool, but I don't know if they're a good fit for cruising - it doesn't seem like you could reef them (maybe I'm wrong)

    • @RogerWilco1
      @RogerWilco1 4 года назад +1

      Cyan Ogilvie The Wingsail has been around a very long time. In the 1990s there was a trimaran called the Walker Wingsail. To “reef”, it just reduced its angle to the wind. I read one if them went through a hurricane ok. (The Walker was a rigid wing, you couldn’t take it down.)

    • @SledgeOfHouseHammer
      @SledgeOfHouseHammer 4 года назад +1

      @@CyanOgilvie There are a few companies working on non-rigid wing sails made of cloth so reefing/furling is possible.

    • @towhitby1
      @towhitby1 4 года назад +4

      Hi guys - the cruising benefits of the wing sail are even better - it's stable, easy to instantly depower and reefs more easily than a normal sail as the membranes are flat cut. Shoot me an email on towhitby@gmail.com and I'll send you the reefing videos. Cheers

    • @paulsmyers203
      @paulsmyers203 4 года назад +3

      That engine bay doesn't have any of the normal equipment in it. It's just the engine and a couple hoses. When that boat is kitted out for cruising the engine bay walls will be covered in all sorts of additional gadgets.
      It's still better than most, for sure! But the luxurious space they're claiming is not realistic to an active boat.

    After all the video's I've seen about Cats and how these builders build the most un-ergonomic spaces imaginable to get to things that was the most open engine bay I think I have ever seen.....I bet it would be pretty nerve racking to have a new cat made and then the first time out you have to go through that narrow channel would be pretty nerve racking to say the least.......Great video.....Keep then coming.

      Biggest and roomiest engine bay I've ever seen. Plenty of room for my fat a** in there.

    Thanks for the tour guys. Probably won't be buying a yacht any time soon but I do appreciate the work that goes into them. The one you were on looked gorgeous. Keep the good stuff coming.

    I never realized there were so much Beauty in South Africa. And that was very interesting about all of the catamarans manufactured in South America. Thank you for another great enjoyable video.

    I kept looking for pictures of electric motor systems that would replace diesel engines but never was able to glimpse one. None the less, the rest was very interesting.....thank you!!
