- Building a Air Adaptor (fill system) to use on a SCBA bottle to fill a PCP rifle.
My video stated under $50. Unfortunately when I initially built these after Christmas this year that was the pricing. As I checked on new pricing, the gauges went up $3.50, as well as the small items for 50 cents to $1. So under $60 to save face.

Thank you so much for your insight on this. I couldn't quite get down to 55 ish dollars. But I did make it for about 75, using Grainger as my main source (availability) And made sure everything was 5000psi or 6500psi rated. Very informative and useful information in this video, thanks again!
Ps. I bought the 3 suggestions you had of Ebay.
T
T, Like I said to another comment. INFLATION !!! As gas and milk rises so does "toys". I about flipped when I bought some parts to build another. I am still around $60 to $65, just have to shop around. I am building my own compressor/storage bank system now. That's a little more than $75. I will have some more videos soon. Been a cold winter in the south. Sorry for the delay. Because I didn't click google plus, I was suspended, but all is well now. Thanks again.
Thank you very much. I hope this video showed you some pointers.
you are a frickin life saver, well money saver haha this whole setup is the best cheapest way thank you soooo much
You are welcome. If you can find the parts, they are easy and cheap to build. Thank you for the kind comment. Good luck with your build.... IAG
this is the best pcp video thank you
Brilliant-thanks for shareing
Your welcome, thank you for the kind comment.
Thanks a lot your vídeos are awesome
Your welcome, keep checking back from time to time, more to come.
Is their anyway I could get a parts list of everything, so I know what to buy.
Send me a message. I will send you a list or just do a video and list each item part by part. Sorry but I am swamped at work, So hang in there and thanks for your comments... IAG
I will do a quick video over the next few days and list all the items. I will post the parts in the description. Thanks for your comment. IAG
Ok thanks
Great Video I'm having a problem getting a 1/8 bleeder screw any suggestions ?
hello where you buy some all material is super
You can get all the parts at a hydraulic part shop, specialized high pressure air shop, or you can search the web (not recommended due to high cost). You have to find a local shop or someone who builds hydraulic items. Good luck on your search.
Hi. Great video. Thank you. Where did you get that valve in the beginning of the video on your original setup. Is it a slow flow control valve? Thank you.
albertqss I have so many valves in videos and in my toy box at home. Give the time frame that it is in, 2:33 or so, then I will look at it and tell you what you want to know. Thanks for the interest.
Thank you. It is the black knob between the bleed valve and the "T". Cheers.
That is a dive shop part (made by Sherwood). I found it in a junk box at work. I looked it up on line to buy another, they can keep it at $75. It is a flow valve. Similar to the valve on the bottle. Crack it for slow fill, or open and dump it out. That's why I did not include it on my list or explanation. It was a Rare and FREE find.
Thank you, sir!
good pcp
Love the video, great info. I'm trying to build one but can't find the Bleed Valve. Where did you get it? You say "send you a PM", well I spent 30 minutes trying out, just how to do that, no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Private message, if you go to a youtubers site, there is a link to contact that member. But anyways you can search the internet, hydraulic shops, dive shops, or online most likely, for any of those. Don't forget Ebay.
Please advise where you can get these parts
Ebay is a good start, they are moderately over priced on some items. If you have a COMMERICAL pneumatic (air) distributor (like Airco) or a hydraulic shop. Those two places are a start and most likely more cost effective. If you piece it together from ebay or the web, could be pricey. I get my parts from a local Hydraulic shop. Most are 7500 psi rated and suitable for air. Should you need more help, message me. Thanks for watching, IAG
I would like to build the adapter as shown in the opening shot with the inline regulator and 3 way Tee connector as opposed to the one that you built in the video. Is there a place to get the inline bleeder and regulator valve. Enjoyed the video and hope to save about 100 bucks if I can find the parts you used or similar.
Yes you can get the ""4" way adaptor. air in, air out, gauge, and bleeder. The 3 way is like 7 or 8 dollars. For some reason the four way as shown is around $15. It is a simple NPT (Nation Pipe Threat) four was splitter. You can get them at hydraulic or air supplies. Good luck and thanks for the kind comments.
Is the 4 way fitting pressure rated or just normal hardware store fittings?
"how did you fine a hydraulic fitting from British bspp 1/8" to us npt 1/4". I have mine done but but for the last fitting.... I cant find the coupler to go from 1/4" male npt to the hose that is 1/8" male British bspp thread. I'm so close and so far,,, : ) if you have any ideas please let me know. or I may have to get a different hose but the adapter for my gun is bspp thread. Thanks love your channel...
Try a machine shop, they may be able to custom make (tap) the part. Also try EBAY and a google search. I am sure there is someone in the world that has what you need. Good luck my friend.
Hey got one on the way...got pointed to a guy from a gentleman on airgunnation. This is one great sight.... thanks for the help.. : )
Glad you got one.
I have everything I need but I'm afraid to put it together. I'm putting 3000 psi into a hardware store fitting and I need to know if I need special pressure rated fittings.
Yes you have to make sure the parts are rated for HPA (high pressure air). DO NOT use anything not approved for the pressures you are operating at. All of my fittings, t's, and hoses that I use have a 6,000 psi rating. That's why you have to go to a dive shop, specialty air or scuba on line supplier, as well as a hydraulic shop. Please make sure all is rated. Good Luck.
+IrishAirgunner Thanks for replying your a life saver! I found everything pressure rated except the 1/4m to 1/8f fitting. That one is a bit difficult to find.
HI Irish,
would you have a link to that nifty on-off and bleed valve on your set up?
thanks in advance
I found this attached to a Scuba fill hose. Sometimes you just have to scavenge. You never know what you can find.
How do you fill your SCBA cylinder? Are there any adapters you can use to do it with a home air compressor, or do you go somewhere to fill it?
Anthony Vinson I get them filled with a commercial grade compressor and cascade system at work. You can get a compressor that will fill up to 4500 psi, but you cant get them at Lowes or Home Depot. The compressor I want for my home cascade (fill system) is $2,400. You can get scuba tanks filled at any dive shop, some even have the adaptors to fill a scba tank, call the local dive shops, they are your best resource.
I don't want to buy a normal 4 way valve from lowes or home depo and my adapter explodes in my face. I don't know much about pressure so can someone help me out. And if I need pressure rated fittings where do I buy them?
+Jack Daniels What you need is Parker high pressure hydraulic fittings. What this guy is calling "adapters" are reducers. And I hope he isn't using standard steel NPT reducers! You need 10,000psi Parker fittings on everything! This includes nipples if you need them. Graingers has all these as well.
Link to the gauge you use?
I will put together a parts list with pics and part numbers. Give me a few days.
Hello, I am trying to build my own scba filling adapter but there are a couple of pieces I don't find or I find them and are very expensive, I am talking about the 4 way T and the bleeder screw. I was hoping someone could give me some useful data on what stores I could look for them or in what page I can buy them, but please that the parts are not expensive because I have found them online but they cost about 30$. I would appreciate a lot your help, and thanks for reading.
plls12 I replied to another request. I will put a parts list together, and throw in some links or suggestions. They are expensive if you buy them on line. Like I said before. Try a hydraulic shop. A shop that builds, repairs, or services hydraulic equipment. They stock these parts and most that I have dealt with will sell them to you at or a little over their cost.
How much would you charge to make one of those adapters i'm very interested in one
I don't manufacture these. I only put out what I have learned from trial and error. I try to give fellow airgunners the chance to do things on their own instead of paying top dollar. There is not a lot of resources out there for "do it at home HPA (high pressure air) starter kits", If I wasn't in my profession, I wouldn't know much about them either. I list all the parts you need in my videos. As soon as I get some time, I will do another detailed video listing everything on the screen for you to find. Thanks for the comment, IAG
Hi, I know this video is old but can anyone tell me where to get all those parts?
I can probably get the gage on eBay but for the rest I'm a bit lost. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hugo, you are the lucky 50ish person that asked. I will do a brief video for you, and list the parts piece by piece and their parts numbers. Give me a week or so. IAG
So you can go to a local hydraulic store and purchase these parts?
Yes hydraulic shops are where I get my parts. Dive stores and shops are expensive. All the products in my video was bought at a local hydraulic shop where I made some friends and they find my parts.
Ebay is a good place to find things too.
Does the CGA 347 work with a MSA airtank?
Hello Gary, a friend has built my adaptors and used them on MSA tanks. Make sure they are the 4500 psi carbon fiber tanks and they should fit as a rule of thumb, as well as NFPA (federal) standards. Good luck and thanks for the question.
How is the tank filled and with what kind of air?
I did another video on how to fill them, feel to check it out. Go to my channel and look under my videos. You can get it filled at a scuba shop, or since its a fire service bottle, they can be filled at a fire station (if you know someone). Thanks for the comment... IAG
So you put the tape on the threads
Yes just wrap the pipe tape around the threads. Be careful that you don't get any lose tape over the end you screw in, a small "rouge" piece could clog your ports. Good luck !
Hello. I got a different tank, Survivair Sigma Hip-Pac Air Respirator Escape SCBA 4500psi Tank. Do you know what type adapter this uses? I'm pretty new to the PCP world and ordered the tank off ebay before I saw your video.
Google and research the Survivair "fill adaptor", or "connector". Once you find the part, you attach it what ever source you have (most are 1/4' NPT threads). The hard part is finding the connector that will properly fit your bottle. If all fails contact the manufacture tech support for a part number. I find my stuff on ebay, it takes research of the manufactures part and part #s to make sure you get the right part. Hope this helps... IAG
IrishAirgunner I contacted Airtanksforsale.com and they said they're interchangable. So I'm going to give it a try.
One more question. I have a chance to get a taylor wharton HC-4500 4500 psi steel cylinder with a CGA 347 valve. Do you think this is good for refilling SCBA bottles?
I believe the CGA 347 is the part number for the Scott SCBA systems. If you look at my previous filling videos it lists it in the comments. The SCBA has specific threads. They are the same for MSA and Scott. Once you the thread, you can us it to fill the scba as well as connecting it to the bottle with a hose and filling your PCP.
NFPA requires that ALL SCBA bottles be threaded alike.
How much tape should I be using?
You want to wrap it one to two times. You really don't need a lot. This tape only seals the very minute gap between the threads. Thanks for your comment... IAG
IrishAirgunner Great.
How slowly should I be filling? I hear that you're only supposed to go like 500-750psi a minute to prevent heat.
Here is why slow is best. Fast filling will not blow the tank up, its not good for it, but not catastrophic. We "Hot" fill them at work if pressed for time and in a emergent situation. But for PCP shooting there is no need. If you hot fill it to 4500 psi. The tank expands too fast and heat is created. When the air and tank cools. The 4500 psi fill will now be 3800. So your 500/700 psi per min is the best to retain the most air per fill. I fill mine to 4600 psi and as it settles, it is at 4500 even at a slow fill. Hope this helps.... IAG
IrishAirgunner From your experience, are there any parts in your setup that are weak because of low-cost materials?
I see Joe Brancato market his stuff all the time and I suspect that he's profiting big time, but are there any parts that are actually worth buying?
Do I need a regulator? Are parts like this www.hustlepaintball.com/Custom-Products-2005-On-Off-Air-Source-Adapter-ASA-Black?&search_id=2198951 worth it? Not sure if I should be going with super fancy parts, but better safe than sorry.
Are you sure it's a 396
I am sorry, it is a CGA 347, that is the "universal/standard" manufacture part number that is universal with all companies. I put a link to the part in the video description. Sorry for the delay.
