Some of you folks gotta realize, for one, sound reinforcement was very different in the 70's and early 80's , no where near the quality people take for granted today. Back then it was very rare to see your heroes actually moving on tv. Besides an appearance on Don Kirschner and the Phanton movie I had only seen kiss on their album sleeves or a magazine ..till I saw this tour. So it's probly hard to imagined but back then it was so thrilling to see and hear them live, so raw,so organic, your just trying to soak everything in and hope it never ends. People didn't nick pick on all this minutia, you where just happy you where there. Plus these dudes worked there asses off for yrs traversing the globe putting in work nite after nite, and when your playing 5 nites a week, at least 2 of those shows are going to be off nites,it's just how it goes when you tour. And ya things may have started going downhill, maybe relationships where fractured, but again that's how it goes. Most bands are lucky to get 6-10 yrs , every show can't be a banger, every relationship can't stay in a perpetual honey moon . These four made magic together, I'm so glad I caught them during their first run, it was truly a thrill of a lifetime.
Great post, amigo! Yes, other than Don Kirschner's tv show and The Midnight Special, you HAD to go see these great bands live to be sure they were real moving, breathing people.

Salud!
This is the first KISS concert I ever saw, on rented bootleg VHS from my local record store. I remember Peter bobbling the words to Beth. On Kissology, they edited that mistake out, and I was supremely disappointed. I have a 3rd gen copy of that bootleg on VHS that I dubbed myself in the KISS collection.
This was the tour I first saw them on in 1979 at the Anaheim convention Center. I was in the very first row. I agree with the person below that stated that Paul has accused Peter and Ace of playing terribly and it's clearly not evident in this concert footage as Peter and Ace are on fire, playing with plenty of enthusiasm and tightly, and on time. Paul is full of it, they sound great during this concert and just as equally at the concert I saw them at 79. This is a great show. Oh, and did I mention how awesome it was as a KISS freak, to see them in the very first row? No I didn't, but let me tell you it was incredibly awesome!!!! Watching this concert footage brought back the great memory of that night.🤘🏼
You weren’t at every show. You don’t know what happened within the band then. Peter admitted to screwing up intentionally during shows to piss the guys off, so there’s obvious something of truth to it.
"King of the Night Time World" "Radioactive" "Move On" "Calling Dr. Love" "Firehouse" "New York Groove" "I Was Made for Lovin' You" "Love Gun" "2,000 Man" "Tossin' and Turnin'" "God of Thunder" "Shout It Out Loud" "Black Diamond" Encore "Detroit Rock City" "Beth" "Rock and Roll All Nite"
Saw this tour in my hometown Halloween ‘79…..it was perfect!! Then came home and watched the infamous TOM SNYDER Tomorrow * show which they were on….recorded of course a week before…

My very first concert. Kizz Dynasty tour. I was in 6th grade and a Kizz Army fanatic! My parents let me go for my birthday and my high school age brother and sister took me! An unknown Johnny Mellencamp was the opener!
I love everything about this tour, love the dynasty custumes and album, and i love the four solo album tracks live, would have loved Paul to do tonight you belong to me instead, and rip it out would have been cool
RIO would’ve fit in nicely after Radioactive and Move On, as they’re all around the same tempo. NYG slows the momentum down too much, but it was the single, so I understand why they needed to play it…
Thank you so much for uploading this. I've seen clips of this concert over the years on various video clips. Mainly the Kiss my Ass video and Kiss exposed video, but i always wanted to see the whole show.
Listening to Paul’s audiobook, according to him Ace and Peter were completely incapable of playing their instruments by this point in their careers. Kinda hard to hear Peter but he at least seems to be keeping time and Ace is clearly doing great.
I've kaZillion live performances (and I myself play bass and can run thru quite a few KISS songs) and alot of times GENE plays WTH Gene feels like playing. The proof is in the audio. Unless (lol) it's not him playing and these are 70s makeup videos LIVE. KISS UNPLUGGED is a good audio show. Plus you can tell they are actually playing and singing. ( which I never jumped on the "performing to playback" bandwagon that has surfaced the last year or two.) Sadly tons of musicians are guilty of it these days. Ace and ACE's band doesn't do it. I've watched too many of his performances and a pretty good FB friend with Aces drummer Matt. Listen to the beginning of Dr Love here. 3rd song. Idk what's going on there but it's horrible for a band like KISS at that time to have live foulups like that. I think they all hated each other equally at this point.
And WHO is fucking up the chords in the beginning of "Calling Dr. Love"? It's NOT Ace! NOT the first time HE does THAT during concerts! And he's sober & lucid! GO FIGURE! And, Peter played GREAT during many shows on the 1979 Dynasty Tour! He just LOST the interest in playing w/ KISS. It's exaggerated that he couldn't play anymore in 1979.
Paul (and Gene) will never waste an opportunity to bash Ace and Peter (as well as Vinnie Vincent and Mark St. John), but they both sound fine during this performance.
Awesome! finally somebody else that was at the same show. I was I also saw them on this tour at the Anaheim convention Center! Right on brother it was a killer show wasn't it?
I saw this tour in Nashville, TN at the Municipal Auditorium. My very first concert at age six. It was the best! Awesome that you have still have this footage. Really rare. Thanks for sharing!😊

Pretty sure I was at this show. I think they played two shows in Largo in this tour. It was my first concert at 9 years old and I cried it was so loud. The band New England opened.
An edited version was used as the one of the bonus disc options on Kissology Vol. II. I had the full show on a bootleg VHS back in the 90's, though. I remember Paul forgetting some of the words in Move On, and then completely botching the intro to Calling Dr Love, as well as Ace not being able to find the hook to hang his guitar on for the levitating guitar trick after the smoking pickup solo. Oh yeah, and Peter completely losing his composure during Beth.

Ace’s Dynasty costume kicks ass!!! I saw KISS front row Dynasty Tour in 79!!! There was this spot light it kept shining in my eyes. See people front row can be a bitch sometimes. Here comes Ace to my side of the stage and he’s jamming and sees me struggling with that light and I looked at him and he had this extra cool smile and flips a pick in my direction and I couldn’t see shit but I was front row and Ace flipped the pick right in my hand!!! As soon as I closed my hand I could feel the pick and people are trying to steel it but no way I was going to let that happen. Ace will always be my favorite KISS MEMBER!!!
Saw this tour as a 9 yr old the same night 20/20 news program aired a segment on them. I never understood them saying this tour was the start of fans bailing on them, playing half full arenas & such, seeing how big the arena was & how quickly it sold out. To me, they were more popular than ever, then again, I was 9 yrs old lol
The tour was a complete failure ronnie. Some of the first night crowds were fine but the biggest problem Kiss had was thinking it was going to be bigger than Love Gun Tour and require multiple shows in each town. You only need to look at the amount of free days/unsold and cancelled shows that were on the itinerary to see they thought they'd be big enough to do multiple shows in my citiies.
@@petesopenrailsvideos Yeah, I take your word for it. Keep in mind, it was my first rock concert, I was 9, & that same night they were on primetime telivision 20/20 which was rare back then, & later in the tour they were treated like the Beatles when they visited Australia lol My idea of seeing them faulter was 1983 Creatures of the Night tour, when that same arena really WAS half empty lol. Have a good one sir.
@@ronniepatterson2827 I probably should clarify my comment by saying failure by their own standards. Each previous tour had been bigger than the one before it and they were expecting Dynasty to do the same but in terms of ticket sales and their live performances, it was a big leap backwards. I'm an Aussie and you're right, the 1980 tour was huge here and our media treated them like the biggest thing since the Beatles, but yes, it all went downhill fast after that. They probably had to wait for the Reunion Tour to see the same level of media interest and ticket sales they'd enjoyed here in '80.
@@petesopenrailsvideos Oh yeah, sounds right when you put it like that. Though ive seen KISS with Eric Carr more than a few times with & without makeup, im thankful I caught them live with Peter Criss shortly before he bolted on them. Thankfully saw that original lineup again in the 1996 reunion tour, though Carr is a far better drummer than Peter "imo"
I wish I could have seen them in the 70's never got the opportunity, my age and family stuff was out of control. Did get to see the original line when they put their make up back on later on before the split up again. Greatest concert of my like.
I feel for ya, brother. I had friends whose parents would not allow them to come with me to see KISS and other great bands (like Van Halen and Ted Nugent) back in our schooldays. It sucked for them!
Same guy who says Ace and Peter would turn the band from kiss to piss because they're not up for it, yet has been caught with backing tracks for 5 years and lost his voice 10 years ago or more.
Context, it was a gooood night out i bet.not every show caught on film or recording is relevant to thier best nights but i liked the tour of 79.(even if i wasnt there lol)
I just love how high paul gets on i was made for lovin you! Goosebump!!! And my beautiful Ace is always great!!! Love when he sings! Can't forget Gene in God of thunder badass song! Peter sounded great on his drum solo. But wht do I know? I'm just a fan not a musician! 😂

Salud!

09/22/79 with Judas Priest at the Chicago Amphitheater was the show I attended
I had to sit thru New England at the 6 shows I show on this tour. They were dreadful.
My first ever concert was 8 days later KISS/Judas Priest 9/30/79
Black Diamond...f-ing still rocks almost 50 yrs later!!
I saw this concert in Toronto... It was my first BIG concert and boy! What a benchmark to set for a 14yr old huh???
peter criss is killing it on his vocals. awesome.
Dirty living is the shit !!
@@dmdavidmiller i agree its maybe the best song of dinasty 🎉
Peter and Ace were always amazing!!! Paul Stanley has always been jealous and bashed both of these legends!!!! Pathetic
He sounds terrible on Beth and messed up the verses. He seems like he might be high.
@TheGodYouWishYouKnew Gee, ya think?

I saw this tour! Caught Pauls pick he threw out. Still have it. Still love KISS! Going to see them this November for the Farewell.🎸 ⭐️ 🔥⚡️

You mean their farewell of the farewell?
I saw this tour in November at Anaheim Convention Center.
Great night for a 14 year old kid.
Took my younger brother to see them in Cleveland, New England was opening band. He was the Kiss fan, but they did put on a hell of a show.
Sing better than our current catman and then come talk nonsense

My very first concert. Kizz Dynasty tour. I was in 6th grade and a Kizz Army fanatic! My parents let me go for my birthday and my high school age brother and sister took me! An unknown Johnny Mellencamp was the opener!
I was at this show. My first concert.... Never knew there was video of it
I love everything about this tour, love the dynasty custumes and album, and i love the four solo album tracks live, would have loved Paul to do tonight you belong to me instead, and rip it out would have been cool
Love in Chains is one of my favorites on his solo.
Could have been a K I ⚡⚡song easily. 👍
@@jeffhodge7272excellent comment, 💯 % agree. Killer Tune!
It's Alright would've been awesome as well.
New York Groove wasn't even written by Ace.
And Peter and Genes solo albums...🤮
RIO would’ve fit in nicely after Radioactive and Move On, as they’re all around the same tempo. NYG slows the momentum down too much, but it was the single, so I understand why they needed to play it…
Move On is such an underrated song. Love this tour!
I liked Pauls solo album as much as the Ace solo.
Both sounded like K I⚡⚡to me.
Gene and Peter's.
Not so much.
Ace solo kills on Move on
The boys at their best (at the time). Ive listened to them since 1977. They are one of my favorite bands!
( which I never jumped on the "performing to playback" bandwagon that has surfaced the last year or two.)
Sadly tons of musicians are guilty of it these days.
He just LOST
the interest in playing w/ KISS. It's exaggerated that he couldn't play anymore in 1979.
I mean I hear it too. Compare it to even the destroyer albums tour. Yes he sounds great here but there’s still an obvious difference
I saw both shows at msg gene was fucking horrible Paul’s a asshole if ace was so bad why did he get three songs on dynasty and unmasked!,,,!,,,,,
Paul (and Gene) will never waste an opportunity to bash Ace and Peter (as well as Vinnie Vincent and Mark St. John), but they both sound fine during this performance.
This tour was my first concert at the age of 12 at the Anaheim Convention Center on I believe December 6th 1979.Great show!
I was there too! John Cougar and the Zone opened but we didn't care....We just wanted KISS!
Awesome! finally somebody else that was at the same show. I was I also saw them on this tour at the Anaheim convention Center! Right on brother it was a killer show wasn't it?
I saw this tour, Judas Priest opened for them...Just an incredible show all around!

Yep. Saw them in Minneapolis
Knoxville, TN. I was 6. Mommy, what's that stinky smell? 😅
I saw them for the first time on that tour , first saw them at Madison Square garden , then Philadelphia spectrum a few weeks later , loved it !
this was my first concert! It was at the now gone Richfield, Coliseum , which was in Richfield, Ohio
Saw Kiss in Toronto in September of 76 , by 79 the audience became full of more and more little kids ....

Ace's solo during Move On was awesome!

I Saw the MSG/NYC and Nassau /Long Island shows on this tour. They ALL played great!!!!!

The old Capital Center in Largo MD. Saw so many great concerts. Was there for Judas Priest when Heavy metal parking lot was filmed.
I never saw this concert... 😮 I think it's not included on the KISSOLOGY dvd's. Thanks for the upload!!! 😁
@@Kohntarkosz Haha... Lol... Yes, there's a reason why all of their live albums are overdubbed (edited) ...But, still a little sad we'll never get these treasures in HD. It wasn't their time. ...btw, nice name, from Magma, perhaps? 😎 Cheers!!!

Strange this footage hasn't been cleaned up and properly released yet.
It was released, in edited form. It was one of the bonus discs that was available for Kissology Vol. II. I had to trek out to Wal Mart to get it.
Right? This has to be a 3rd generation copy.
I was there at this show when I was 10 in Vancouver bc
But I remember kiss coming out from under the stage like statues
Seen them that year in Nashville it was great!!
I love it!
I've never saw this video before!
For all Paul Stanley's talk about how Ace wasn't playing well - well Ace sure was rocking. Maybe Paul owes Ace an apology?
I was at this show with my brother and cousin! First KISS show of many over the years!
Estos son los VERDADEROS INTEGRANTES DE KISS

I feel for ya, brother. I had friends whose parents would not allow them to come with me to see KISS and other great bands (like Van Halen and Ted Nugent) back in our schooldays. It sucked for them!
I was in jr high and saw this tour at the Richfield Coliseum wayyyy back in the day
10:35 ---- HAAAAAAAA. Paul threw everyone off. Ace's look back is priceless
Paul messes up Dr love and blanks out on move on. Yet he blames ace and Peter
Same guy who says Ace and Peter would turn the band from kiss to piss because they're not up for it, yet has been caught with backing tracks for 5 years and lost his voice 10 years ago or more.
He forgot the words on Move On!
I'm surprised they never wore the Dynasty outfits again They were such cool costumes. 👍🏻😮
They didn’t want to be seen as a Vegas act or a children’s act and they thought that those costumes contributed to those images.
Saw them in June 1979 in Savannah Georgia and I think the Sweet opened up for them that night.

Ace killed it that night. Paul, not so much. I would even say Paul was the 4th best singer, that night.
Ace was very motivated 1977 thru 1980. just look at his output. SHOCK ME, ROCKET RIDE, 3 songs each on Dynasty & Unmasked, an amazing solo album and even the best song on THE ELDER. Peter started going down hill after BETH Sadly.
