Ant portrait lens.
lol
I love the long unenthusiastic “here is some...” with the samples
I am a regular and no mean admirer of whatever you impart about photography and I'm really indebted to what I have gathered about equipments you suggested.
This video is no exception to that and my perifery to acquire something new will go a long way for your valuable advice. This newest lens is a unique equipment but it costs a little too high for the kind and it looks much cumbersome to use it in general.
But I appreciate the effort to make macro photography innovative and exciting. Thanks a lot and I always have a special place in my heart.
Here is a lens cap I made for the Nanoha: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4587226
I've included an OpenSCAD file, so you can adjust any parameters you would like. Once you've made the .stl file, you can print on almost any 3d printer. If you don't have one yourself, you can send it to an on-line printing service and they will mail it to you. If you would like any adjustments to the cap made, feel free to leave comments on Thingiverse. But the cap works quite well. I imagine if you use the lens without the LED fixture, lots of standard lens caps available in camera stores should work.
I’d argue that that the 4-5x ring is not a focus ring. You select your magnification with that ring. There is no focus adjustment, it has a single focal plane for a given magnification and you physically move the whole camera closer to or farther from to place the flocks plane in line with your subject. At 4-5x you will almost always need to focus stack.
So weird I gotta have one! Thanks for sharing this with us Arthur!
Hi Arthur, could you try out the Viltrox speedbooster for the Sony aps-c camera's?
wow...never expected I would see those microscope pictures in this channel. Feel like back to school, kinda cool.
Nice.
The picture of the ballpoint pen and salt crystals look nearly as close as mine.
I got an old Minolta MD 50mm F3.5 Macro lens and the bellows-attachment for a bargain price. Coupled with my emount adapter amd crop factor I get something around 6-8 times magnification. Crazy if you try it without any stabilization or immovable objects.
A neat and very compact lens but I must mention you can get similar or better results with extension tubes and a lens reversing mount. I'm using an ancient Pentax-K 28mm lens with two sets of 75mm extension tubes and a lens reverse mount which gives about 5:1 magnification and a full frame image circle. It has an advantage over the Yasuhara that the subject distance is more than double that, at about 45 mm. You can of course add more extension tubes and or use shorter focal length lenses to get more magnification. One good thing is that even using a 15mm lens the subject distance still remains about 45mm (assuming you are using a K-mount lens).
The downside is of course that it is somewhat larger. The setup only cost me about $70 for the extension tubes and reverser. The lens is one I had bought used some thirty years ago but I think you can find plenty similar on eBay for about 30$.
Always enjoy your content. Seems to be a good lens for scientific applications.
I am thinking the same thing
I’d like to see this lens in a bundle with an ‘obedient wasp’
Interesting video. Thanks
That isn't a focusing ring. It is a magnification selector. Focusing is achieved with this type of lens by mounting the camera onto a focusing rail. Focusing is fine-tuned by moving the camera closer to, or farther from, the subject.
Looks like fun. I have a TG5 and it does the job well too.
Wild. It would be so fun to play with! Great for abstract pictures. Leave it to you to keep making unique content related to Sony’s crop cameras.
Kind of asking myself how in the hell that iMac will gonna turn on without any power cord...
I can see a potential psychedelic voyage with this....pack your LSD kids and let's go
YESSSIR!!!!
Oh yes.. 🤣
It is not the only microscopic lens in the world. There is also a lens from Mitakon that from 4x to 4.5x with amazingly apertures of f/2 to f/ 16. Altho a higher aperture probably would be better to get more depth of field.
You should have a look at the Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x ultra macro
cool lens.. I do macro work but that lens is a bit tight for me.
Did any of the shots use the target holder? What about long exposures and timer shutter in lieu of the onboard lights? Seems like colored/stained liquids and dead bugs would produce some fun/cool images.
Mitakon f2 20mm 4-4.5x is a comparablr lens that only costs 200usd. Venus laowa 25mm 2.5-5x macro lens is better in all aspects but costs 499usd. The very famous canon mpe 65mm gives a mag of 1-5x with longer focusing distanse but it costs 1000usd.
As cell phones dominate the market - to add microscopic photography is a potential market boost - I'm adding this lens to my collection.
For basic close-up photography you can buy dirt cheap clip-on lenses for your phone. I have one and find it quite handy, such as reading tiny printing on manufactured items.
Mine has a clear ring on the end, so you press it against the item to photograph/video/monitor, but light can enter through the clear ring.
Zhongyi has had a 4x-4.5X lens out for a while. No LED's though. Cool lens. The Nanoha is a little more powerful. Very interesting. I agree they are pretty impossible for moving subjects.
Best thumbnail of 2020! 😂
This and the Mitakon Zhongyi 20mm f/2 4.5x are microscope objectives in a lens body, with aperture blades added. The Mitakon is much cheaper at $179.
Not to forget the noble roots of Sony cameras, there is also the Minolta 3x-1x Macro Zoom, the only autofocus lens of its kind, which works on Sony A-mount cameras and on mirrorless with an LA-EA4 adapter so it can autofocus.
It's not that unique, Canon has had the 1x-5x macro lens for years, the MP-E 65MM f/2.8
Yep, maybe that kind of research should have been done by Arthur in making this video :) There's also the Laowa 25mm 2,5-5x.
Lighting looks great
Are you having any reliability problems with your computer? The first troubleshooting step should be to check all the cables are connected properly.
I'm still building that computer. Cables will come later...
@@ArthurR it's a mac, you don't build a mac. Do you just mean you haven't bought the power cable yet. "power cable sold separately" 😁
This lens is good for creating... a... ''new galaxies'' for our universe...
Be quiet fool
Dom B what an unnecessary comment
Lol nasa fanboy get angry
This lens is perfekt for moss. I need to photograph sometimes moss and I struggle with a 1:1 Makro lens sometimes
nice background! :D this man got himself a studio
Similar idea to the Mitakon 4-4.5x super macro lens then, apart from going that bit further (to 5x) and having the in-built LED lights too. Just a shame you seem to need an external power supply for those lights (would it be possible to use the camera's own battery to power them?). Very interesting! The example pictures are quite incredible really (I'm sure the ant agrees with that). Very nice.
Here is the close up of Janessa’s eyeball🤣🤣 and the obedient swap😂😂
I would say this is actually a microscope.
Haha yeah that's a fair point. It is kind of closer to a microscope than to a lens
"Here is some skin" I don't know why but that made me laugh.
Thank you very much, interesting indeed! Is it compatible with Canon and others?
Thanks again 🙂
woww those images are very very close!! omg
Yeah, that it's not the "only microscopic camera lens". There are plenty-- the most popular and recognizable would be Canon's 65mm MP-E
And best, might I add!!!
@@derekv6479 I haven't used enough of them to crown a "best" but I'd suspect that a newer design might dethrone the Canon. It is getting a little long in the tooth after all. That said, it is still very well respected.
Not sure anyone is currently doing anything like the MPE-65 so as it stands it is hard to de-throne it. A fantastic lens but heavy, I use mine handheld and love it when it works. I think it is a testament to just how good it is that Canon are still making and selling them. I am sure Canon could improve the optic design to reduce weight and bring that weight nearer to the camera, but sharpness wise there is probably very little improvement to be had.
@@Distinctly.Average there's the laowa 2.5-5x 25mm for one.
Vikman Photography Yep, another good lens, just not as versatile. It is great we have so much choice these days.
Step one in some tutorial I saw on macro photography: How to catch and kill the insect so that it looks intact.
I will not be doing that. But if you want focus stacking on an insect that normally moves around non-stop, that is how you get those pictures, I guess.
Resembles the Mitakon 20mm 4.5x macro a lot, and it is cheaper, probably because it has no led light...
Really good review. Olympus Tough TG 6 takes similar shots with similar quality.
You could start each video with "Tell me what you think this is" photo!
I would just use reverse ring on my 50 mm F/1.8 and it will work same as this lens, I have tried it before.
Guys if you want to achieve the same results shown above. Just try taking picture of something wide aperture prime lens reversed
Very cool, but baffling that they could not include a lens cover at this price point! ;)
Interesting lens! This might become the small brother of my probe lens;D
1:31 the face we all made when your mom made you finish your vegetables, when you were 5, before you could leave the table xD
I think this would be great from grabbing new textures.. how are they a Japan company and no love for fujifilm though :/
Spiratone Vario-Dupliscope $15 -30 on EBay .Just unscrew the slide holder from the front. From 7cm distance from the front of the lens the horizontal frame is 12 mm on my Sony APS-C camera. ( 16mm with zooming out )
On my full frame Nikon 20mm the max , but have to used life wiev . ( Viewfinder to dark )
Not microscopic but , flat field and perfect for bugs , focus stockings
Only negatív - no aperture adjustments.
They should have put a battery in that LED module. Like three really small Li-ion batteries.
Agreed - i thought it was a charging port at first.
Too complicated, would bring the price up significantly. What I think would be great is if they managed to fit in a holder for one or two AA/AAA batteries, or perhaps some of those flat batteries you sometimes use in remote controls and such. Would make a lot more sense.
@@fandyus4125 Well, not really expensive at all. Something like 3 pieces of 170 mAh 3,7V LiPo (for example 302530 or other suitable dimensions) with integrated protection circuits cost about 2 USD (0,65 - 0,70 USD / pcs). Total weight would be around 10g and capacity 1,9 Wh.
@@tkermi Yeah, you also have to account for the drivers, charging circuits etc. Plus it would make it very unpractical for when the battery malfunctioned, you'd need a charger too. I'm not manufacturing specialist but I don't think it would be practical for the company to do this.
@@fandyus4125 For mentioned LiPo batteries a high quality 500 mA Charging / BMS board (components actually attached to existing board for LEDs+USB port, though doesn't really change the price much) costs around 0,30-0,40 USD.
And changing the USB port to more practical USB-C type + 3 extra PCB connectors for batteries cost about 0,10 USD. So these all would add max. 0,50 USD to production cost.
This uses any phone USB charger or USB connection from laptop, PC, power bank, car etc. for charging - so no need to include charger or even cable.
Those batteries are standard size, so easily available, and come with quick attach connectors. So they can be easily unplugged, slided off and changed if needed.
But this total price addition of 2,50 USD is for production cost to manufacturer. So when factory and resale profit margins are added the price to end customer would be something like 8 USD +VAT.
5:30 me trying to talk dirty while being just as formal with my demeanour
Great video
Great portrait lens if you shoot sea people.

What would be the magnification ratio for this lens?
With objects so close, are there things that you can't seem to focus on? I mean... the subject is actually in focus, but it appears to be out of focus.
What kind of film holder does that have? Too close to copy a 35mm slide, maybe a single frame of super 8 mm?
well, since it needs to be that steady, it should have had electric focus and zoom.... so that u would not have to touch it.
What do you think of the news about the Sony a7C coming in a couple of weeks Arthur?
Daniel Middleman If the price is over $2,000 US, I don’t see the appeal. If it comes in at $1,500 or $1,600, it will sell well.
what about the
Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro?
Possibly a great lens to use on your camera while recording your work in a computer/electronics repair shop! :)
Amazing!
The magnification is unusual, but not unique. The only somewhat unique aspect is the built-in light, which has been seen elsewhere, but not on a super-macro that I'm aware of
Canon's 65mm MP-E goes from 1x to 5x magnification and has been out for a couple decades. Laowa does a 25mm f2.8 2x-5x as well and Mitakon has an 85mm in this space.
Great innovation! Cool...
Well, it's not a sony e-mount but Canon MP-E 64 mm f/2.8 1-5x macro is a "proper" lens with a working distance of some 10 cm, not 10 mm. Works a treat on my a6500 with an adapter.
I want it
And here is a neat review.....:-)
How about the lens Tamron 28-200mm? Could U film a video talk about the lens Tamron 28-200mm with SONY APS-C pleaze?THX
The Canon MP-E-65mm/f2.8 goes from 1x to 5x and gives you some decent working distance. About USD1000.
Super cool and would be really fun to play with but that price is just way too much IMO.
Do they have for emount cameras??
Saw your eBay ad!
Yes please.
I bet there's an aerosol can in one of your cupboards with a suitable cap to use as a lens cap here.
Why that mac isnt plugged in?
I like my Laowa 25 2.5x-5x magnification.
An optical stereo microscope or a usb one would be more economic option with this working distance
R.I.P. Mr. Yasuhara
Why no Canon EF mount?
5:03 Index. INDEX!!
This guy looks like Hoovie from Hoovies Garage
It's literally just a big microscope lens for camera, not a macro lens, it's a micro lens
That’s so cool!!
Micro 4/3 version?
Arthur
I like your samples
For a lens cover check out the ones from Kuvrd they fit almost any lens they are on Amazon. I may order one to check it out.
I don't think I would get this lens I would rather get the Sigma 16mm for the same amount of money. (LOL mine is on order)
😂 I felt like I was in nursery again, everytime he went 'Here is a leaf. Here is some skin. Here are some hair'
Btw love the video, more wierd lens reviews please 🙌
Nice review...
An old 1st gen polycarbonate white iMac, that is not plugged in. Nice prop haha.

Arthur: Na-Nooo!-ha
Japan: Nah-Noh-ha
Laowa has a 2.5-5x macro lens
This lens makes me uncomfortable.
you should checkout the 7artisans 60mm macro :D
Transparent salt - that's something new for me
There is a Canon lens that achieves 1x to 5x magnification too.
So i guess is only aps-c?
Ne huya seve!
Pretty cool lens and all, but mini usb? Wasnt that port already dead around 2012-2013?
We still use in Asia
@@aha7722 Ahh didn't know about that part, thanks for the info!
That lens looks so weird 😲. Well it performs very weirdly to match the looks 😂.
I wonder if this lens will work with extension tubes lol
Technically it should, but it looks like it still won't help much XD. Probably need to stack like 4 or more tubes...
What’s your definition of microscopic macro lens? Because I’m PREEEETTY sure Laowa makes a 25mm 2.5-5x and canon has their iconic MPE 65mm too
Interesting lens with LED
