I love how Vassalheim has been central to this story from the beginning, but every time they go there they get distracted and spend 80% of their time mentally and physically torturing one random alchemist.

@@khatogast6916 when players have deception vs insight contest against each other, the success of deception doesn't mean that you necessarily believe, but don't have enough insight on the liar's body language and et cetera that would tell you otherwise, this goes the same in player versus npc situation and to add to it, after one player succeded on deception against the other player, the other one can still pursue his thoughts of being lied to, no matter the score, but of course it works better if there's slight difference in both scores, again same goes for player vs npc situation.
Imagine you’re a priest in some small catholic church and suddenly one of the cardinals shows up with some other random people and before you can process the fact that A F-KING CARDINAL IS IN YOUR CHURCH, they look at you and ask you with complete seriousness “Hey do you know of a way to physically go to heaven and speak to god? Without dying of course”
And you’re just like “Ummmm... no? Let me get the..... bishop???” You go get the bishop and by the time the two of you are back the cardinal is like “Nevermind, god spoke to me while I was waiting and explained everything. So embarrassing☺️”
The cardinal turns to leave and then one of the random people says “hey shouldn’t we tell them about the demons?”
The cardinal is like “ah yes that. You see a demon has risen from hell and came to our world in order to destroy it with his demon army. This is not in any way metaphorical, the demon armies are gathering a couple miles from here actually, so like... be ready for war. By the way what year is it and what do you know about heaven?”
The poor bishop tells them the date and does his best to... explain heaven to the cardinal? And after he’s done another one of the group pipes up with “oh he doesn’t know about the thing in heaven? Should we tell him?” and the cardinal just goes “Nah I don’t want to☺️”
And then they leave, not before the hippie woman in the group offers her gardening services. Your church does not have a garden.

However as an answer it was stupid. The eyeball is alive, moving on it's own, clearly corrupting anyone who touches it, plus clearly can burrow itself, so suddenly going with "it's just an eye, it cannot hear" logic is kinda... dumb.

Watching Vax miss the Raven Queen's hints about why she should send him back felt like watching John Snow deny every moment that he is asked to become the king.

The campaign is running for years, and its awesome to see the players remember their choices they made and recall them in later episodes for character development is always heartwarming to look at. It shows the players care about the game and their characters
Lol, that little moment of Matt being alone with the audience was weirdly cool.
In 103 episodes he's hardly done it.. he didn't even know what to do. He probably wished he had a little more time
I didn't realize how much I missed the adventures of Grog and Scanlan
After how melodramatic the first half of the episode was, I definitely wanted more, but true performers ALWAYS leave the audience wanting more.
Grog and Tary/Doty wasn't too bad either.

@Arusiek90 Honestly combining Sam or Travis with anyone else creates a great moment. But the greatest pairings are Sam and Travis, Travis and Ashley, or Sam and Ashley. I cant recall if the three of them have had escapades together.

That's actually funny... Liam said in Talks that he tought the Raven Queen knew about Vecna and his plan already, because, paraphrasing his words: "She's a goddess, so to me it was obvious that she knew, so it was like someone asked me 'What's the Earth like?', and I say 'Well, it's mostly water, we have a 365 cycle around the sun...' And I don't mention the fact that the Earth is round, because that's obvious, everybody knows that, but I am talking to the one person who doesn't know that."

No, the earth spin on itself 365,25 times per cycle around the sun.
But they don't know if she did use means that the Raven Queen hates for all they know she was resurrected using True Resurrection which is the same method they were going to use to res Vax before he returned as a Revenant.
Props to Sam for going full One Ring corrupted after touching the eye.

Pretty sure Sam is the only one who would have properly played that like he did. Everyone else would just "oh it's evil? okay I don't want it" when you are obviously meant to be tempted and enticed, you can't just shrug it off.

@@TraskTrojanek Yes. From his between the sheets, he clearly just loves the whole improv of d&d. You can make a plan, but if the dice rolls go against you, the stories goes a different direction. Similarly, touch a malevolent artifact....now you’re driven to pluck out your eye and possess it. He is amazing.
@@TraskTrojanek I disagree, Travis was in a similar situation with Grog and Craven Edge and played it faithfully, and Taliesin has shown Percy to be corruptible in lesser ways on several occasions, too. Sam did a great job in this session, but he’s not the only one who has.

Ok. All joking aside, at the beginning of the episode when Laura goes from bubbly about merch in the store to immediately flipping the switch and crying over the death of her brother in character is seriously impressive. The talent in this group is just next level.
Of all of them, Laura gets me the most with her acting
There are several times I was very impressed with her acting and the "mood change" she displays. Like cheering the death of Raishan to sobbing looking at Percy is another good example

The key people are forgetting is this. The raven queen did know about vecna.
However she did NOT know that he was successfully revived and preparing to become an undead God again.
THAT is why Matt tried to pull it from Vax.

Walking around my house as Matt describes Vax detecting Vecna and under my breath say "Vecdar" and 2 seconds later, Sam says "Vecdar." Not sure if I am proud of myself or ashamed.

I really love how everyone lost their shit in different ways when Vax showed up. Pike trying to understand, Vex hoping against hope, Percy in straight up damage control mode, Keyleth just in denial... fuxking amazing.
Some of Taliesin's best Percy here in a while, imho. He's no longer as heartless and callous as during the Briarwood arc and he's genuinely sorry he has to do it, but he is still the only one cold enough to let reason and caution overrule hope and love.
And Grog's like: Hey, Vax is back, cool. Okay, where's the nearest bush
Can we just take a moment and appreciate how Laura went from "Buy our merchandise" one moment to absolutely heartbroken as Vex? It's stuff like this that makes me come back every Monday (and be terribly tired at work on Tuesday...)
One cool thing she does is pressing her hand on the stomach so she breaths less air and the crying act is more realistic.

Honestly though, how many people have made it through 103 episodes and not completely fallen for Laura Bailey. I still have to go back and watch the first few episodes from time to time just to hear her draw out "Trinkeeeet".
If only they could find Larkin. He would be so much help during the final battle.

Gotta love it how Travis and Sam are just so over PC deaths at this point that they're just chilling while other's are crying.
They are playing there roles, Grog moves forwards, not stopping to cry instead driving on to do somthing to fix it.
Scanlon covers his grief up as he always has with any strong emotion. I imagine we may have seen a risk of a fall to drugs again if Vax had not returned.
It makes total sense for Grog. He's not all that bright, and literally everyone important to him who's died has always come back to life. Percy's insides were all over his outsides after the Raishan fight, and he was fine after a quick revivify spell. Keyleth turned herself into ketchup jumping off a 1000ft cliff, and was back on her feet 30 seonds later with the help of a magic coin.
Of course he would assume death wouldn't keep Vax down either.
Much like Scanlan leaving, it probably wouldn't really hit him for a few weeks.
Also, despite being Grand Poobah and a mighty wish granting wizard, Grog doesn't know anything about magic. He might just think resurrection is easier with a body, not that you need one.
Scanlan is the type to try to be strong and make everyone else smile, then sob his heart out in private. So I see both of their behaviour as perfectly in character.

@@Pro_Butcher_Amateur_Human that's why the FIX HIM scene was so good, because everyone's character acted as if Scanlan's death was final, and Grog could not comprehend that, if you made the others get up again, do so with him too, nothing of acting as if he has gone.
I love Vax/Liam, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who went crazy that he failed to mention Vecna was a lich king raising an army of necromancers. Matt laid it on pretty thick that the Raven Queen didn't know everything, with Vecna blocking her sight and her constantly asking for more information. Even as a goddess, her power has limits (which Matt has also emphasized repeatedly throughout the campaign bc of the divine gate)
I am losing my mind over this, i had to pause and see if anyone else also thought so. Like Matt is immedietly asking him directly like "tell me something" and he goes "I dont know" like grahhhh how??
Percy's cautiousness of returned Vax is great and fits so well for him
And it's the same caution Caleb shows with Calliana next campaign and everyone hates him.
Turn undead, sense evil, zone of Truth, friends, other spells that make you dominate people and tell you things.

@@mr.e7541 Probably because the party would be sure from a meta sense is not gonna turn on so didn't use any resources. Aside from that Percy being main suspicious guy doesn't have many options to do that
@spensirmclife6549 they left the room so even from a meta sense, they didn't know he wasn't evil. That could have been what Matt and Liam were talking about. Vax returned but is secretly working for the bad guy.
Percy could've suggest to Pike, to use sense evil. And he did get her to use turn Undead. That happened after I left my comment.

I love the conversation between Matt as the Raven Queen and Vax where Liam completely and utterly misses the part where Vecna is literally trying to ascend to godhood. Matt several times like "What's Vecna trying to do?" and Liam having no fucking clue. It's hilarious but a terrible missed opportunity and one of the reasons you know this shit isn't scripted, fumbles like that.
Talesin pulling that with Vax’s resurrection was actually awesome as hell. That’s exactly Percy would do in such a scenario, and I think it’s perfect for Percy’s character. He’s experienced such hardship, and even after overcoming a lot of it, he’s still reluctant to accept good things.
Talk just ruining the moment for no good reason...
How many times did they have to tell him to shut it...

seriously my guy, calm down that hate boner on talesin lmao. it is perfectly within reason, especially percy's character, for anyone to have gone, "hey, wait a minute" when someone who you just saw die has seemingly returned without explanation. literally imagine you were the one playing percy there - would you legitimately just sit there and accept that it was actually vax?
the moment wasn't ruined either, it was still beautiful and it helped make it more realistic that percy would question the validity of vax's sudden return.

That tal wants to tell them to be careful, sure, a second time maybe, but at some point you back off when everyone keeps telling you to back off, it just ruins the moment, for no reason than him being the usual control freak.
Lol sure, completely downplay how annoying he was... He wasn't just "oh wait a minute" But constantly telling everyone what to do, at some point enough, stop forcing it.
Nah, that wasn't realistic, that was tal as a player freaking out that this could be some kind of plot twist he wanted to get ahead of, percy would have never been so overly careful to the point of being annoying.
when it comes to what percy does, usually reckless as he can be, but when others do something that could be considered reckless he acts like this...
Questioning it, or not shutting up about it even after being told to shut up several times, are two quite different things, at some point you let others have their monologue and stop interrupting
@@Darksnakemrniceguy did, did we watch the same episode? at NO point does anyone tell talesin or percy to shut up or insinuate it. they, in character, butt heads very slightly when percy brings up the great point that vax could very well be a ploy by vecna - vex even remarks when she first sees him that it could be a trick of the faywild.
being the servant of a goddess of death means jack all. any god could've reasonably brought back anyone if they thought they could be key in defeating whatever foe they were dealing with. that said, percy also explained that miracles usually don't just happen. VM have had to fight for almost everything they've got.
they had to rid whitestone from the clutches of the briarwoods and then keep it safe from the conclave. they had to travel all across exandria and multiple planes to collect the vestiges. they had to defeat four ancient dragons in order to save Tal'Dorei. at no point did any of the dragons suddenly drop dead, nor were any of the vestiges just materialized before them. the only time the gods interfered with their adventure was when pike had sarenrae body vorugal, and that still was only a small contribution in the grand scheme of things.
with each death they didn't immediately fix during battle, they had to pour out their hearts and souls to bring back their friends. at no point has anything just been given to them. they've worked to gain all their miracles, becoming the miracle itself in many circumstances. so for vax to just be given back to them for seemingly no cost is a bit hard to believe, especially when you consider who is questioning the situation here - percy.
percy, as a character, has lost the entirety of his family beyond Cassandra. he even got to watch her nearly die and was left traumatized. he struck up a deal with a demon and thought about almost nothing beyond revenge for years before meeting VM.
it makes literally perfect sense for ANY of them to skeptical because they just fought someone who can literally raise the fucking dead. percy, especially, doesn't expect someone to just go, "yeah, you can have him back" just like that. why would he?
finally, there was no monologue during any of this. this scene was literally everyone learning that vax was alive - there was no interruption when it's expected that everyone would have a reaction to seeing their dead friend alive all of a sudden.
like, i don't know what to tell you my dude. you must just straight up hate talesin.

he can do what ever he wants, but oh no when others want to take a chance they have to listen to him or he wont shush...
he was told several times, its ok, its him, percy its fine, "percy enough", and just going "percy..." aka, just drop it... also an indirect way of telling someone to shut it.
others are trying to have their chance to say something to vax, an intense touching moment, sure some doubt, but thats only secondary, and then there is percy...
wont stop interrupting because of his never before seen caution...
and of course there can be interruptions, when vex is trying to say something to vax, or keyleth trying to say something to vax, you know the two people in the world who love him the most, they dont need percy budding in half a dozen times, when they are just trying to give their reaction...
once sure, second time fine, third time ehm... enough?
but at some point you take the hint and let them talk to vax for gods sake.
Matt being cute and awkward with us when none of the players were in the room is the wholesomeness we needed so desperately in that moment and he didn't even realize at the time 💖

I like the way Matt is handling Vecna. The guy is a classic villain, almost the stereotypical lich king, and yet his CR interpretation feels so fresh. I luv this show
Natural -20 I'm not sure how you think it's fresh. It's pretty stereotypical, but to be fair at this point it's hard to be original nowadays
I think what it makes him fresh it's the fact that it's almost the only stereotypical villain in the whole campaign, but he has so much power that it really frights the entire Vox Machina group.
I think it’s just his role in the show. With exception of when the Chroma Conclave first appeared, there has been very few moments to make Vox Machina shake in their boots. This, however, I think everyone knows is their final boss. It’s everything the story has been building up to, even if no one has realized it.

Matt’s side characters are way more interesting and fun than any of the cast

To be fair, they probably could have alerted the guard captain at the very least if Grog hadn't decked him in the face and sent the entire city into high alert for the wrong reason
This is part of one of the things that saddens me the most about Vox Machina : their inability to grasp they're not a ragtag band of low-level hobos saving Kimmy who fell in the well, but powerhouses in their own rights. Lord of Whitestone ? Leave the paperwork to sista and go fool around. Members of the Council of Tal'Dorei ? Let's haggle with the little alchemist and get annoyed by guards, and certainly not gather all of Vasselheim's top honchos and expose the archvillain's world-threatening plot and assemble an army of paladins and priests... So sad to see... 😓
It's crazy because last episode Matt kept saying that Vecna hadn't became a god yet several times and that bit of information failed to find the Raven Queen even though Matt laid it on so thick. I'm not at mad Liam it just hurts that he dropped the ball.

The moment alone with Matt is the best. Most of the time he’s talking to just the cast as if he’s not on camera but when nobody else was there and it’s just him and silence it really felt like you are sitting there with him as he prepares to go on with the story. 1:04:55

@@franklinwood7705 This is also an old comment, but I think its more than that, he is deciding on whether or not he should lie and try to convince them that if they beat Vecna he gets to go free. Their is a moment in which he is simply trying to vaguely play the resurrection off as a gift of the raven queen for being her paladin which in a way is true, just leaving out the whole being yanked from existence at the end of the victory. If he isn't telling a lie then he isn't betraying he's friends and its not until they ask him directly what happens after they defeat Vecna that he finally tells them the whole truth. Getting a little meta-gaming here but Id bet if Liam/Vax had a higher deception he probably would decided to straight up lie to the group and hope that no insights clued the party into the deal he made thus protecting them from any guilt they may have to deal with or in the case of Scanlan holding back against the Vecna fight. Ultimately the "playing dumb" strategy almost immediately backfired as both the characters and he's actual friends had way to many questions about how he came back unscathed.

The whole scene with Vax being brought back, spotting Pike and the simple exchange of nicknames is such a beautiful moment, but damn Laura damn near broke my heart, her bursting into tears stating it's not real.
I can imagine, for a LOT of people, we'd give anything for just one more opportunity to be back with a loved one, her doubt of it being real, then suddenly realising it is Vax is one of my favourite parts of this campaign up to this point.
I'm not even done with the episode yet, but had to take a moment, who'd have thought that a "bunch of nerdy ass voice actors" could hit me with this many emotions at once. Just beautiful stuff all round.
I liked the moment when Scanlan thanked Vax for coming back and said it was a hard choice.
Even back in Campaign 1, Laura Bailey is like: "Artagan is like really cool you guys"

I just finished the campaign and decided to come back here so I could let everyone know that for some inexplicable reason, the moments where Percy is essentially holding everybody back and believing in vax's return while holding on to that stubborn terrified weariness has got to be my favorite Percy moment in the whole thing.

Through the entire bit where Vax came back to them after his talk with the Raven Queen, I was watching Travis' reactions to everything, they were so genuine, showing how invested a person can actually be in a group of fictional characters in a made up world. That man is truly amazing.

If so, Matt would have been being kind. (Which he ended up being anyway) In the rules as written, if you die to Disintegrate the only way back is a Wish or a Miracle spell. All the resurrection types spells require at least a small part of the original body and the "ashes" dont count.

In 5e it is specifically stated in the Disintegrate spell that 'the creature can be restored to life only by means of a True Resurrection or a Wish spell'. This is also consistent with True Resurrection's description, which says 'the spell can even provide a new body if the original no longer exists, in which case you must speak the creature's name'.
Vax is given the knowledge of the direction and distance to where Vecna is located (350 miles NW of Vasselheim) which he passes on to the party.
Later, Keyleth tells the Fire Ashari that they don't know where Vecna is but he might be in Wildemount, Vax doesn't add anything to this conversation.
Then, Scanlan has to point out that they know where he's located and it's not Wildemount.
Vax and Keyleth were definitely meant for each other.
I paused right there just to look through the comments to find out how bad the consequences were that they were sending everyone to look in the opposite side of the world...bless you!
I'm pretty sure they regularly forget that they're a couple and confess their love anew only for the other one to get confused. Except in the instances where they've both forgotten it and happily announce their love to Vox Machine for the umpteenth time...
The odd part is, I saw Liam leaning in like he was going to say "Actually, I know exactly where they are. At all times."

@@xSevFTW Nah, he was basically a SUPER powerful litch that managed to find a way to become a god. He's tried to ascend a few times before, but always managed to be defeated before he could fully become a deity. But on one of his first attempts, he did partially succeed and become somewhat of a demigod.
well... to justify them we could say that Ioun is powerless since she is still recovering from her wound. so she probably wouldn't be of much help. Vecna is actually the enemy of most gods to be fair, most good/neutral deities there should have at least one reason to hate him.
It was specified by the Sphinx that Ioun hates Vecna due to his corruption of her temples.

I love how Percy sounds both completely reasonable and totally unreasonable in the few minutes after Vax returns. Really lets you know just how much this group can draw you in.
