I love the smith machine because it lets me test out heavier weights and not worry too much about loosing control because of all the safety features that it has! Definitely a great machine to practice squats on.

What if you face the other way? I see some people at the gym doing it the other way. Which way is the right way to face, is there a wrong way to face as you do the squat?
foday S at planet fitness there is a wrong way. Notice the bar heads in one direction as it goes down. Of you face the wrong way you will tilt backward as you go down. Better to go the other way. Sadly it will never feel as natural as with a free bar.
There's no right way to do it, since the bar is supposed to move straight up and down in a squat, and PF does not have a smith machine that moves straight up and down.
Interesting question...the trainer at my PF says to face inward on a Smith Machine. She seems unusually knowledgeable and is moving up to the corporate trainer in our area. But many others face out of the machine, so I'm confused.
@@number1bobo People who work at PF will just make up whatever nonsense they prefer. The bar is supposed to move straight up and down, so there is no right way to do it. The right way requires a completely different gym.

So is YMCA or your local university/high school and those places actually have squat racks/power cages/bench racks/oly platforms and people that know what they're doing
Where I live (Atlanta) It's $22 a month for young adult (under 27) under $15 if you're a student or active military and you can pay 3 months at a time with NO contract or fees. Enjoy your Pizza Tuesdays and no gains, ya fat shit.
So you have a problem with "judgement free zone", excellent machines, and the cheapest price in town (way less than YMCA or Community Center)? Did you set off the jock alarm too often?
@@number1bobo Did you even read my post? It's not the cheapest in town when you factor in the contract, multiple fees, and lack of equipment. Plus the notorious hassle of getting out of a PF contract. Excellent machines? Like I said above, they don't have oly platforms, benches, squat racks, or power cages. If you're argument is that you don't use/need these, than you don't care to train optimally, which is the whole point of this conversation. The machines they do have are of bad to average quality anyways. I'd love to know how you arrived at "excellent". Also, how self-conscious are you that you need to train in a "judgment free zone"? I've been an avid, long-term, weight-lifter (on and off) for 20 years. And, I'm going to give some free advice to anyone who reads this: DON'T BE TOO COOL TO WARM-UP with Light/Small weight. Look, I remember being young and already in exceedingly good shape. I'd walk into a gym, cold, and basically lift as much as I could (for sets of 6-8.) I never got injured. Not ONCE. So, I considered warming-up to be a myth for the weak. "I NEVER COOL OFF!" That's the kind of shit I'd say. HOWEVER, now that I'm 40, I'm paying for this ignorance. Sure, I can't prove a direct "cause and effect" relationship between my previous view on warming-up, and my CURRENTLY FRAIL ligaments, tendons, and joints, but it seems the obvious candidate (being as it's my ENTIRE BODY that's having issues.) Now-a-days, I can only lift, LITERALLY, 33%-66%, of what I did 15 years ago. And, I'm near the exact same weight. My joints, and the tissue within them, will NOT allow me to gain strength. My days of getting stronger are done. So, don't be a bozo like I was. Today, you might not need to warm up, but tomorrow, you might regret avoiding it.

Sure, I can't prove a direct "cause and effect" relationship between my previous view on warming-up, and my CURRENTLY FRAIL ligaments, tendons, and joints, but it seems the obvious candidate (being as it's my ENTIRE BODY that's having issues.)
Now-a-days, I can only lift, LITERALLY, 33%-66%, of what I did 15 years ago. And, I'm near the exact same weight.
My joints, and the tissue within them, will NOT allow me to gain strength. My days of getting stronger are done.
So, don't be a bozo like I was. Today, you might not need to warm up, but tomorrow, you might regret avoiding it.
Nice useful tip! 👍🏿👍🏿
thanks for this video! I have steered clear of the smith machine other than doing bench presses.....
Great video, can I know the title of the song playing at the back as well ?
I'm 6'7" and found that facing outward facing the gym was more comfortable then inward facing the mirror .
It's kinda weird but it works for my body size.
My balance on those machines is always messed up, but standing forward makes more sense
Bro your god send . Thanks man
thank you so much!
I've been wanting to know how to use the Smith machine
Thanks for video,im a new lifter and I lift at planrt fitness as well,my question is,im 46 years old and got my testoterone levels checked and it is at 397,is this enough to ad muscle or should i seek trt
George Burns Its awesome that you started lifting! If you haven't already, i would ask your doctor or the personal trainer at your gym to be as safe as possible. goodluck!
That's in the normal range. Talk to your doc. I have been on trt for 2 years now never felt better.
absolutely based for making this video
