I did those titles back in the early 90's. I can barely remember how, but I was using both Frame3D and Parallax Illusion and Matador at the time. I do remember taking a great deal of time to make the crystal look crystally. And I remember being up all night. Just checked wiki and IMDB...I'm not credited, but when I have time I will update it. I was at Oasis Television at the time and worked for Malcolm Heyworth. I'm retired now. I also did The Tomorrow People sometime soon after that (which I do have a credit for). Funny seeing this again.
Well this was unexpected. ;) Thank you so much for taking your time commenting on this video! I have to say that all that time you spent on those titles was worth it. It is truly an iconic sequence. :)
Thank you. I never thought about it much since yesterday. It caught my eye because they're bringing the series back. I can remember being pressured to finish because I'd spent so much time on the crystal. I was happy with the crystal and the ripples for the reveal.
I love the old Crystal Maze, am worried the new series won't live up to the awesomeness of the original. They're going to mess with the formula too much.
As someone who has been in the new Maze in London (I was in one of the first teams in on launch day back in March), that couldn't be anywhere further from the truth. Yes it is slightly different, but the *feel* of The Crystal Maze is still there, and that's the most important thing to focus on when reviving a franchise, especially a nostalgic one such as this.
I know a bit more than yourself, as an avid maze fan. I've had regular recent emails with David Croft, the original producer. I was also a preview "zone/games" tester in March last year. I was disappointed that the first maze was shoved in an office block, that the zone transitions and sense of scale was not true to the original. The games provided nostalgia but the attention to detail is what annoyed me slightly. The biggest gripe for me, was the wrong music at the dome lol. This is the email I had from David Croft two weeks ago: Hi Neil, Apologies for taking so long to reply to your email, things at the NFTS are particularly hectic at the start of a new year. It doesn’t look as if I will be involved in the new series as no one has approached me. I don’t keep in touch with James Dillon (apart from Xmas cards) so I don’t have any inside info on their production and shoot schedule. I suppose after 25 or so years the new team think they don’t need us ‘oldsters' to make it work. But, they will face several production surprises that we only solved whilst we were making the shows. If they want solutions from me they will need to open their cheque books. I think their choice of presenter is interesting. One of the reasons Richard & Ed worked so well was because they did not bring an already known persona to the Maze, that is why they are both so associated with it, Richard Ayoade, however, is already well known for several other shows, most notably the IT Crowd. I will also be interested to see if they feel they need to make any adjustments to the format to bring it up to the 21st century. Television History shows that bringing back hit shows seldom works so I wish them well and I would be pleased to read your opinion of the new series.
I got shivers and goose pimples reading your first bit with the text, then realising it's actually officially coming back for a Series 7. 2017, I love you.
Oh I love Ed. He is always my favourite. But I had to mainly focus on Richard just for this video because he is the most iconic host. I would have liked to mention Ed in the video, but I have to cater to YT's algorithm. 😅
been working on recreating the theme, being that it's creator seems impossible to find to ask about the sounds I've had to scratch my head to the bone, I've nailed everything else but struggling with the stab sounds, my journey continues...
I was one of the first people to enter the experience when it opened for the first time near King's Cross, London back in 2016. I was a crown-funding backer for it too. That's how I got my tickets. I was the captain of my team of 6, who were complete strangers save for one friend (much like the actual show lol). We started in Medieval Zone (F in chat for Medieval) and finished up with 10 crystals, scoring a total of 144 gold in the dome after deduction of silver. We won a crystal. That was what I call one of the best days of my whole life. :)
OFFICIAL - The Crystal Maze is returning back on Channel 4 for a Brand new series!!!! Adam my friend, I think your likely to make another version of this title sequence to celebrate, so I say best of luck to you :)
Never heard of this. However, it reminds me a lot of "Fort Boyard". Edit : Of course it does, I googled it and I saw that it was made by the same person and is basically an adaptation of Fort Boyard for the English television >_
I actually prefer The Crystal Maze over Fort Boyard due to its high-fantasy concept and its vast appeal. It's a programme that can be enjoyed by literally anyone whether you are a child, teen, adult or elder. Plus, I think it had a much bigger impact on British pop culture, about on the same level as Doctor Who and Dad's Army.
@@juniourst3ven596 Hello again. Sorry for the 5 year wait on answering this question. 😅 Yes, I did watch Jungle Run when it was still on TV. Who can forget Elvis The Monkey? 🙈
Nice :) but im not keen on the ending bit, as the shape of the square is too small, the animation is a bit off, and colour scheme is a little too blue, it should have similarities to the orginial, but above all, well done

Welcome to the club! :)

Adam my friend, I think your likely to make another version of this title sequence to celebrate, so I say best of luck to you :)
Could do, but I'll wait until when the actual new series gets broadcasted. ;)
Well sir, i hope that when it is on, you will make a brilliant title sequence. 2017 has just gotten awesome and its only the second week of January :)
I would guess the the theme that will most likely to be used will be charlie wheelers 2017 version
Jacques Antoine, did this amazing creator also invent Fort Boyard?
Actually, yes.
When the UK wasn't able to make their own version of Fort Boyard, they brought in Jacques to create The Crystal Maze instead.
Thanks that helped

Ashleybradbury Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, it wasn't going to be perfect, but I had to take some liberties with the limited sources I had.
True, might I ask how the animations and content was made (i am a 3d designer as well)
Ashleybradbury Certainly. I made the shapes and titles with blender and Element 3D, which is what I used to animate as well, and the rest was composed in After Effects.
I see, well I use Blender and After Effects, so how did Element 3D come into play?
Ashleybradbury Mainly texturing and animating the 3D models.
