I wasn't able to join the livestream, but I enjoyed watching the video. Thanks for the review Thor. Coming from you, saying that it's one of the best sounding albums in your collection... WOW. I will definitely check out the album. 🤘
I’m not sure how anyone could expect this to sound like their first 4 albums! For me it’s fits right into to their discography hardwire & Death magnetic which is exactly what I was expecting I’ve spun it twice and I’m impressed!
Nice review. I too was on board for the first Kill'em. As a young teen, I found their brutal assault was an important part of my life. Along with Ac/Dc and Motorhead, the Metallica made a permanent impression; and I always give each new album at least one listen. (Although, I must admit that I rarely reach for their albums today. Nevertheless, I really appreciate your thoughtful, insightful review and I look forward to giving the record a full spin. Thank you.
What is your opinion on the lack of inspired drumming from Lars? His drumming on this album is uninspired and very basic, 'simple' if you like and he hardly does any drum fills at all. To me he plays the drums but his heart isn't in it any more.
I completely agree, but I assume it’s his intention these days to keep it that simple, simply because he’s just lazy. His overuse of open hi-hat to set the pace, e.g. at the beginning of Screaming Suicide, is totally annoying, and since the drums are way too loud in the mix you can sometimes hardly hear James‘ riffs behind the hi-hat. The bass drum’s overly pronounced click is terrible and distracting.
@@beetlebum7760 Couldn’t disagree more, but that’s ok. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion…I wouldn’t suggest Lars being too lazy though…I like his drumming, hate the sound of the hi-hat. On vinyl, the guitars and the bass are much more pronounced than on the Qobuz files for example.
@@thoronmetal108 Ok. I’ve been listening on Spotify, and so far I don’t like the album enough to pay more than 40 Euros for it. It’s too long anyway, as is every Metallica album since the black album. Losing all the weaker tracks would probably have made it a pretty solid single disc LP.

I agree...why always compare albums...just engage with the one at hand, give it some time and then decide.
Def getting that album👍🏻🙏🏻

Lux Æterna sounds like a theme song for the Power Rangers or some cartoon character with superpowers 😂

I completely disagree. I think it is the first time he plays "for the team". I like this new style...more serving the songs than himself.

The vinyl mastering is very balanced except for the hi-hat.
