Janis was bullied quite a lot as a young lady... People really didn't think she was beautiful or thought she was a bit too masculine... She sounds like this because the girl was hurting badly, all the way up until the day she died in the Landmark Motor Hotel in Los Angeles. As you go through the rock and roll journey, you'll find that heroin, Los Angeles and people dying far too young becomes a very common theme.

So talented! This is a great performance. She had the ability to sing two notes at the same time (polyphonic overtones), and you can CLEARLY hear it on the opening of Cry Baby- which I highly recommend you do next. You can hear it much clearer in the studio version. Keep rocking! 🤘🏼🤘🏼❤️
Her heart and soul were laid bare when she sang. She became the song, she was so much more than a singer. She was a force of nature, a star that burned too bright too fast, and then burned out just as quickly. Nothing like her before or since.
I saw Janis perform many times in SF at the Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom when I was a teenager. She always walked around with a bottle of Southern Comfort in her back pocket. She was electrifying in person.
I've also visited the museum and saw her little blue sports car. Right next to the George Jones exhibit - ha - I actually love him too, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" makes me cry in my beer every time.

I was fortunate enough to be living in the San Francisco Bay area in the late 60s early 70s. I saw Big brother and the holding company, with Janis twice, once at Fillmore West and once at the Coliseum. I’ve never forgotten all the bands I saw over the few years I lived there.
Artist like this is why never liked rap and hip hop growing up in the 90s. Asking myself the same question as you.. "What happened to music?" That is the reason why I love rock and 60s rock in particular
Janis was my girl. I could listen to her for hours and hours, but I just really wanted to hug her for days. RIP Genius and may the Angels now give you your standing ovation!!!
I loved Janis, saw her in concert twice, always wild and singing her heart out--- often a little stoned or under the influence of whiskey. Her wonderful talent taken from us by the very passion for experiencing life over the top that you hear in her voice. One of a kind. 💔

You can see the (Mama & Papas) Mama Cass in the front of the audience mouthing the word “wow” (at 5:45 in your reaction , she the one wearing sunglasses). This performance from Janis broke her really big in the USA and a superstar. I remember seeing Hendrix playing but at 11 didn’t appreciate the event. 😞😞
Janis had a rough life and she let all her pain out through her music. Bless her heart she never ran out of pain. She brings me to tears every time. She was one of a kind and she is missed. Great show😊
The amount of soul from that little lady was crazy. ✌
That woman with her jaw dropped in the audience is Mama Cass of the Mamas and Papas. You should check them out too…California Dreaming
Janis was a gigantic ball of emotion! She just grabbed hold of you and dragged you along. Felt sure she was going to drag you along, too!!
So bummed I missed the live for what is probably the most soulful display EVER…Janis died before she knew how adored she was, but she left us with this! Glad you found your way to her ✌🖤😎💫🌌🕊
Janis Joplin one of the best ever.. absolute fantastic voice! ❤️🌟🎶 💚 🇸🇪
There is nor will ever be another Janice!!
Janice’s voice was her instrument! No one will ever come along like her!! Or the time either! So free and about love!! ✌️she let it all hang out, a saying from the 60’s!RIP queen of rock!!SOUL!!❤
Molly boy. when she did that performance. that performance in particular, it was at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Including the date of performance she was 24 years, 4 months and 30 days old.
This was the second time she performed this song that day; the first time they weren’t filming, but the director was so blown away he asked her to do it again. Thank Ja she did. ✌️❤️🎶
You make me emotional when you say back then the musicians were artists. Occasionally I come across something new that inspires me but for the most part it's the amazing music from my childhood and youth (60s and 70s) that lights me up. I love your channel and your commentary 🥰
my older sister took my twin sister and I to the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco in 1968or 9. I still get the chills every time I hear her sing! I'm 74 years young . please get all your friends to listen to a woman who sang with passion and pain and absolutely no artifice whatsoever!!!!!
My all-time favorite singer. I was 15 when she passed, and we were absolutely crushed. Thank you for bringing her back ❤😢✌️.
This was kind of her coming out party. You can see how relieved and happy she was at the end. It's so great.
THAT FACE was MAMA CASS of the mama's and Papas
I was fortunate enough to be living in the San Francisco Bay area in the late 60s early 70s. I saw Big brother and the holding company, with Janis twice, once at Fillmore West and once at the Coliseum. I’ve never forgotten all the bands I saw over the few years I lived there.
Artist like this is why never liked rap and hip hop growing up in the 90s. Asking myself the same question as you.. "What happened to music?" That is the reason why I love rock and 60s rock in particular
Me and Bobby MeGee is a personal fav hence my Name
Please do this next. Live or studio
U will find both I’m sure
Janis Joplin is my idol. thanks for doing her again.
Janis was my girl. I could listen to her for hours and hours, but I just really wanted to hug her for days. RIP Genius and may the Angels now give you your standing ovation!!!
Ohhhh you’re in for a treat here
I loved Janis, saw her in concert twice, always wild and singing her heart out--- often a little stoned or under the influence of whiskey. Her wonderful talent taken from us by the very passion for experiencing life over the top that you hear in her voice. One of a kind. 💔
- Janis: PURE SOUL! :)
Janis was all heart and soul.
That face was Cass Elliot from the Mamas and Pappas 😉
I've been watching this performance for 50 years 🤘
