    Hey I'm post med( a practicing physician). As you'll learn in embryology class, an embryo is a developing human individual. The embryo in the dish is born there. There is no carrying mother. An embryo's humanness is not determined by it's spareness. Cannibalizing our own young is not an advancement.
    Have a great day and study hard.

    Are humans meant to be developed as parts in the corporate lab, or as a whole in women?
    We are all mature "embryonic stem cell lines", except WE have not been pulled apart at an earlier stage of our development.

    I am a conservative, agnostic and biology major... pre-med track. Christians don't have a problem with stem cell research. It is embryonic stem cell research and the idea of when life starts. Adult stem cell research is much more affective anyway and those cells are taken from cooperative donors not unborn children.

    anc - Let me clarify one point for you. President Bush never had a ban on Stem Cell Research. Bush had a ban on Federal Funding of most ESCR.

  • @JohnRomanoDOrazio
    @JohnRomanoDOrazio 14 лет назад +1

    many scientists agree that umbilical cord stem cells are very promising. so I would be a little more conscientious about experimenting on embryo's. There are many other possibilities and president Obama is not representing an objective perspective when he says "after much discussion, debate and reflection... the majority of americans across the political sectrum and from all backgrounds and beliefs have come to a consensus that we should pursue this research". I'm sorry that is not true.

  • @Unklebillybob
    @Unklebillybob 14 лет назад

    Are there any of you advocates who support ESCR that have read the Dickey Amendment? Do you know why this amendment was written? Who's administration was it written in? And finally, has it been repealed?

  • @oran6es

    Better to throw them out than to grow baby parts, right?
    They are forced to survive and develop in the corporate lab, not as a whole, but as pieces of a whole.
    Corporations should not be allowed to control the entire body and substance of a developing human well into the infant cell stage.

  • @dyingtolive123

    @funichigo i think stem cells are used pretty much only from bone marrow these days, which can be gathered from any human so the patient can have his own stem cells extracted so no neeed for them to kll embryos

    anc - Teratoma. Let me help you with this one, too. A Teratoma is simply a Tumor, made-up of a heterogeneous mixture of cells,,,, To include; Bone, Cartilage, Muscle. But, still, it is a tumor. If you need more information, I'll be happy to give it to you.

    Cell maturity and control are the reason ESC won't work? In fact, my 4th year Micro Cell Bio at McMaster university was presented that question for bonus marks. If my reply was, "Cell maturity and control," I would not mind if my Prof. laughed at my lack of understanding in the subject and question how the hell I made it to 4th year Cell Bio. Please provide educated, clinical, physiological reasons that would uphold in a Lab Report. Not some assumption backed by zero evidence.

  • @oran6es
    @oran6es 15 лет назад

    1. Sorry for the typo
    2. Teratomas happen often enough
    3. Sorry, but a human embryo is human, hence the adjective human
    4. I agree, embryonic stem cells have the most potential, AS AN INTACT WHOLE NEW HUMAN BEING
    5. Adult stem cells are the ONLY stem cells that have shown promise
    6. I said lose lose lose. I'm pretty smart
    7. See number 4
    8. Is the life in the petrie dish in outer space?
    9. Matter of opinion. Lotsa ambition, sure. His greatest asset seems to be an uncanny ability to blow smoke.

    Not for long. If a comatose patient is certain to wake up, and sit up, and speak within a few months, and walk within 2 years, would you pull the plug? If they were to forever to float around, you may have a point. Since they continue to develop, your point is moot.

  • @oran6es

    The problem with your intellectually bereft example is that this overlooks the basic biological difference between a regular body cell, and one whose nuclear material has been fused with an unfertilized egg cell, resulting in an embryo. A normal skin cell will only give rise to more skin cells when it divides, while an embryo will give rise to the entire adult organism. Skin cells are not potential adults. Skin cells are potentially only more skin cells. Only embryos are potential adults.

  • @Tenisar

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't adult stem cells heavily limited in the type of cells that they can differentiate into? Embryonic stem cells, to my knowledge, are able to differentiate into a greater diversity of cells. In addition, is it not much easier, even prior to the uplifting of the stem cell research restrictions, to obtain embryonic stem cells compared to adult stem cells?

This includes embryology, the life cycle of a human being, etc. I've touched a teratoma, and I see this type of research going NOWHERE. It's a true waste of taxpayer funds, as much of this current administration's policie, and it truly takes away from more promising research.

    You do hopefully know that women have an abundance of eggs, no woman could ever use all of her eggs. I know this is a sensitive issue but did you know that statistically as much 50% of all pregnancies end in involuntary abortion world wide? You also criticize the fact that eggs/embryons are harvested for research, how else are they going ever to find out the potential other than from the study of these embryons?

    @HiddenFacedMatt A tray of embryos not in a woman are as good as dead. The reason why Catholics and Christians are against using "spare embryos" is because they are against abortion as well. I do not agree with embryonic stem cell research because there are other ways to obtain stem cells like Adult stem cell research and umbilical cord stem cell research, they are not hard to get and are also pluripotent like embryonic stem cells, meaning they can make many other types of cells.

    The potential of saving a person who's already alive, & in incredible discomfort by experimenting on Embryonic cells who haven't developed enough to even have the functional 5 senses (the things that allow you experience reality, or what we like to call 'life') is a trade that should always be taken. For a person who's alive is alive 100%, and the person who is not is niether in discomfort, capable of experiencing discomfort or even alive. If you don't have developed senses, you're not alive!

    The moral analysis of what we may permissibly do with an embryo doesn’t depend on its otherwise "going to waste," nor on the incidental fact that those embryos are "trapped" in liquid nitrogen. If we think about a school house in which there is a group of children who are trapped through no fault of their own, that would not make it okay to send in a remote control robotic device which would harvest organs from those children and cause their demise.

    @HiddenFacedMatt I’m not fighting I'm researching Opinions on the subjects of abortion, embryonic stem cell research, and human cloning for use of their stem cells. Adult stem cells should have more support because they can be taken from many parts of an adult without harming them. And I was not giving the definition of clone embryos. I was saying in this situation, there is a form of collecting stem cells by implanting and aborting cloned embryos for their stem cells.
