  • From Open Source to a Global Business - (Confluent) Jay Kreps & (Sequoia) Matt Miller | Slush 2022
While working as a lead architect for data infrastructure at LinkedIn, Jay co-created an open-source messaging system Apache Kafka. This open source was quickly adopted by companies such as Netflix, Uber, and Pinterest and grew to be one of the most popular open-source data projects in the world. In 2014, Confluent was founded by the Apache Kafka co-creators.
Today, Confluent is a public company and the central nervous system for data for thousands of businesses. In conversation with Matt Miller of Sequoia, Jay will discuss how they went from an open-source idea to a global business in just 8 years and some of the key lessons he has for other open-source project creators.
