Living full-time in my rolling tiny home has been the best decision of my life. Off-Grid living offers a peace and connection to life that you just can't explain. When i first started van life i build a stealth camper van with the mindset the you had to live a stealth van life and i soon discovered that you can just live the city van life and boondock in the countryside and as long as you are respectful of the backcountry and cities you live in. Stealth van life in not necessary. Be proud of the life you choose to live, Share this van life journey with everyone. Remember Tiny Homes and The whole tiny house lifestyle is very popular and #vanlife is no different. When you don't hide it people will come say hi and ask you questions. The world is more curious than hateful. Well......Welcome to my everyday van life adventures. My name is Chrome Valdez and i travel full-time with Cruz the bulldog. Stay weird everyone and thank you for being here.
This guy's attitude is super infectious. And he looks like a good fur baby daddy

Well that dog is the cutest thing ever.
It's like his kid. A son to him.
We all can agree
Minute rice is one cup of rice and one cup of water bring to boil take off heat let sit for a few minutes fluff with fork and eat simple
Dont forget to cover the pot with a lid after boiling. It will cook in a few minutes
2 cups water 1 cup rice boil 20 minutes turn off heat let stand for 2 minutes fluff with fork. Cook with lid leave lid on until end. Love you Chrome n Cruz . Stay safe
When you rolled up on the abandoned motel I was waiting for Steve Wallis from Camping with Steve to run out the back door with his stealth gear 😂
Ha ha. Good one. Love Steve’s videos too.
Love Steve, great post needed a 😂
Love Steve

Steve is great!
The way your dog is looking at you and is waiting for you to take him outside, that’s love bro. Sweetie doggo.
Imagine how great our world would be if more people had the excitement and joy of the same pleasures that you do!!!
I drove to Alaska and stayed in several place throughout Canada during my journey, all hotels, but man the drive was so beautiful. And dang there was a LOT of wildlife. But wow it was the best. I can definitely see the attraction of van life.
How far up did you make it? Also did you do it solo?
@@ff2154 I drove from Chicago to Anchorage and back. I did it solo both ways.
@@oliviasfermi4465 That is so Cool. I plan to do this drive one day. I'm in Northern California, also solo female. I heard summer or fall is the best time to do it. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Van life, tiny home life, being off the grid has its appeal.
Breaking free of the programming may well be easier in these conditions
Oh my Chrome I know why you had to get back on the road, I was watching vancity adventure and because of you stopping and helping that young man name John stranded on the side of the road, people in BC got together and donated boxes and boxes of food clothing, heat, love and to much love. Chrome please stay rolling. This world needs you. You are a crusader and don't even know it. And I thank Vancity Adventures with his big heart too
You've got a gypsy heart ❤. I love how happy you are, finding your bliss, keeping a contented dog, and making your own adventure. You are meeting your own needs, keeping yourself nicely groomed, and being free. I really like the sparkle in your eyes! Your van rocks. Cruz rocks, too! Bravo!
I will never understand how we as humans see a building not currently in use and the first thing we do is trash the inside of it to that point
I do love the graffiti but the knocking down walls and breaking glass just seems like a waste
Sarah Stephens That place looked like destruction, not art like he usually features.
Sarah Stephens especially when there are so many folks who need a home!!!
That building was eerie.
Especially b/c those buildings BELONG to someone. They are not abandoned, just in disuse at the time. Travellers (numerous) assumed our barn was abandoned and broke in and stole all our tack and vandalized the place...thus rendering it unusable. 😡
You wanna know what's worse?
When you watch a video of someone spending a few days on a lonely island and they go walking along the beach, looking for things to use and all you see is human garbage...plastic water bottles, sandals/flip-flops, rope, etc., etc....
Ur dog is the best company u can have, he will never argue with u, he will never leave u just because u lost ur job, he will always give u unconditional love! Pets are just that aswome!!🙌🐶😍
I really need one. A dog.🐕
Regarding any electrical Appliance the wattage stated is the maximum Watts. Once the rice cooker comes up to temperature it will throttle right back to a much-reduced wattage, or the rice would burn. Just like when you make rice on the gas stove once it boils you turn the flame right down.
Best be very careful when checking out abandoned buildings going solo danger does exist in a lot of these places.
That's why you always CC

I've seen other van dwellers use an Instant Pot to cook their meals in while they drive, plus it is also has a rice cooking option. I think the smallest size available is a 3-qt. I think they're on Amazon for $59.95 USD.
I bet they do, but if he's driving and not parked, he would be able to cook his meal and it would be ready when he reaches his destination.
I love your comfy van. That's awesome.👍👍👍👌👌👌
Chrome you dont need a rice cooker, always remember double the water to your rice so 1/2 cup of rice with 1 cup of water. Now bring water to boil add dash salt and 1/2 tsp butter add rice put cover on it let set on lowest heat for 5 min then turn off and let sit about 15 to 20 minutes and it will be perfect.
Yep that exactly what I was going to say. Then I stir it with a fork and serve. Perfect rice every time.
@@JustHeAndMe7733 Yum Thanks
@@jeffstone7261 you're most welcome. ☺️
No matter how many times someone tells me how to make rice, it's never perfect...what's high and low heat can differ person to person, the heat source can be a different burning temperatures, different types of pots...I don't use many kitchen appliances, but a rice cooker and coffee maker are my best friends. I love my rice maker, and I can steam veggies on top...just click one button and it's done.
@@bumbygrl cool cookin no doubt rice goes with everything too
When cooking rice turn heat off just before it is ready and keep lid on , leave with no heat for 10 minutes
The biggest improvement i really like other than the welbasto and refreg/freezer, is the window, it really makes a difference, great up grade
Your dog is so cute! I loved the look on his face when he was looking at his empty food bowl. ❤️
Remember Chrome when you look at a any device that gives you wattage that is wattage per hour so for example your 450w rice cooker you say will run 20 minutes that equals 1/3 of 450 Watts which is 150 watts you would use to cook rice for 20 minutes
So jealous of your life. If only I had the courage to do it. Great video.
Chrome 1 cup of rice 2 cups of water bring to the boil then put the lid on switch off the gas and leave for half an hour ish depending on how much you use
I know you've heard this all before but I would suggest that you always stop at safe locations, be careful and continue to enjoy your life ✌
I know someone sharing his van with a slow cooker and they are a very happy couple ;)
I love Forest!!
“It doesn’t need to be instagram perfect” ❤️❤️❤️
Chrome, you have mastered the art of solitude!
I can relate to enjoying "the side of the road". I am really missing our road trips right now. There is something fun about spending the night at a rest stop, or pulled up beside some truckers. It means we are on our way to an adventure, and our hearts are happy.
I used to run a small instapot in my semi truck while I was rolling down the road. Does rice, and so much more.
IP makes the best brown rice ever.
@@seekingjoynow1722
But brown rice is just disgusting tho. :(
I'm glad he's enjoying the abandoned buildings. They make me leery as heck.
Yup I have the small 3.5 qrt and it’s awesome especially cooking for one!
It’s the Rosebud Motel. If you listen hard enough you can hear Alexis say “Ewe David!” Lol I love Schitts Creek
Me too! It's the funniest show ever ever
Lololol
I can’t say Ewwww now without adding David to the end LOL
Lol
Get a Dash rice cooker. Smaller and just 2 servings.
Rice cooker you can make all kinds of things ... Jackery 1000 will work pretty good.... just saying
Watching this after a rather blah day working from home just really cheered me up. You are a beautiful person. Thank you and Cruz.
If you get the rice cooker, you then you can make extra and freeze the rest. Just a thought.
Dude is so high on LIFE!!! AMAZING!!!
My daughter in law uses a rice cooker, they have rice with every meal.
I use my crockpot. I use crockpot/slow cooker liners. When the rice is done, and it's fluffy, l pick up the liner, transfer the rice, liner included into a big bowl. Vola! No clean up.
Instant Pot can be an alternative instead of rice cooker just for cooking rice.
And it makes better rice than my old rice cooker did.
I was going to suggest this too. Originally lead to getting one after watching a trucking couple use one. Cooks rice, makes fantastic hard/soft boiled eggs, great for soups and stews and such, and you can use sauté feature like a hot plate. Like alton brown says - always have multi taskers and not unitaskers!
I agree if you only have room for one, the rice cooker or the pressure cooker, get the pressure cooker. It costs more but does so much that it is worth the investment and can make rice, soup, fry food, steam food, etc. It's the best.
I really enjoyed your van build series. Now that you're all done with getting your upgrades this year, it's nice that you can just take your time traveling back to Vancouver & enjoy all the sights along the way & stop when you want for however long you want. I really enjoy your channel. You do a great job with all your videos. Thanks for taking us along with you on your travels! 🍃🍂🍁
Ya really cool channel...one of my fav's.
Stick to a pot just make sure double the water to the rice! So 2 cups/water 1 cup rice.
Make sure bring to a boil and it's bubbling everywhere before covering with a tight fit lid! Turn heat to the lowest setting and don't touch for at least 20 mins!
It usually takes a few trial and errors with rice!
If you grab one of the small sized InstaPots, you will be in heaven…they are so versatile and provide so many ways to prepare so many dishes and meals. From all I've seen on other YT Channels, they don't kill battery banks, etc…PLUS, they cook the best rice, I've ever eaten. So, simmple to use - just follow the directions…chilis, stews, roasts, chickens, you name it!
"home is where you damn well park it"
I wish we could say the same in San Diego.
We have a place where people park and sleep at night in San Diego
I laughed at Cruz licking your ears and our dogs ran in the room. Glad you are happy and back on the road sharing your journey.
You’re so positive!
I got a rice maker with a steam basket on top and its easy to steam veggies, put the food in, and click one button, perfection!!
Hey brother, you don't need a rice cooker. All you need is 1 cup rice, 2 cups water, a pinch of salt and crank up the heat.
Perfect rice every time my friend.
When you are at the gym...while you are showering have a small electric cooker plugged into the outlet in the bathroom
Way too cool of an idea!!
Yep, carry a 2nd duffel bag containing your rice cooker. Unzip the bag, plug in the cooker, go take your shower. By the time you've showered, got dressed & ready, the rice will be done.
I dont know about taking food in the gym but you could also plug your jackery battery although i think it takes too long to get a full charge
That's a happy little chuckle. Rice needs a 2 to 1 ratio. 2 cups water to 1 cup of rice. With jasmine, you bring it to a boil and then put a lid on it, turn on the heat, leave it alone for 20 minutes and it's done.
Aroma 3 cup rice cooker. 350 watts. $25 - $30
Just pre-soak the rice and it will cook faster even on the stove and if possible use a properly sealed pot like those with a well fitted lid and it will cook with less fuel/power. Plus make sure you stop cooking justa few mins before it's fully cooked and let it stay covered in the hot pot itself. It will cook up fully by the time you get other stuff ready for your meal.
Perfect day back on the road.
I saw a you tube lady who after cooking her riice turns it off, puts a clean folded dish cloth over pot and place lid back on top. She waits a few minutes and the rice is fluffy. Towel absorbs extra watet i quess. Have not tried it yet but might be worth a shot.
A 3 quart intant pot uses 700 watts and cooks rice perfect in 4 minutes. Just a opinion
sweet jamie ray..... 🤣🤣😘
And can be used for many different things.
Maybe invest in a 3 qt instant pot. Cooks rice and can do so much else.
Uuyyy
Not sure why, but you feel like family.
I had mixed emotions about you getting back on the road, as I am sure you did too. Exciting to be on the move again but equally sad to leave such great friends behind. Your smile and infectious laugh while touring that creepy abandoned motel made it all better.

In the process of getting rid of my possessions and searching for the right van for me. My only difficulty will be that i am 6'-4", but i am on my way. My only regret is I lost my wife 4 yrs ago and she can't come with me.
I'm sorry for your loss but I hope all goes well for you!
:( hope you find a cool van that fits you ...much love
Loosing your wife is a bummer , hope you have a wonderful journey
Wish you all THE BEST!
I just lost my wife and iam going to start the van life
As you and Cruz was driving away I felt the lost of friends we were leaving behind. I enjoyed seeing you with those wonderful people made me feel some kind of way. But I know there are many more good people that we all will get to meet as we travel along with you and Cruz.
You are living the life there! The way you got the heater and your documentaries and can just curl up and relax with the window cracked that is the comfort right there and then the food you had. See that’s what I want to do. I wanna build a log cabin into a truck bed and just see the world like this the abandoned buildings and all that like you said the stories you can imagine or hear just makes me marveled at the adventures humanity has traveled you know.
I love it "home is where you damn well park it". Put that on a shirt
Home is where you make it. It can be in the woods in a tent . Home is in ones heart

Tip.. rinse the rice first before cooking it until it runs clear that way it gets rid of the starch that makes the rice gummy...

A thought came to mind for your rice cooker... SOLAR for power. I don’t know how exactly it would work, but it wouldn’t be a battery drain. Enjoyed your video. You have a warm, kind, lovely genuine personality and your dog is so precious. He loves you. Loved how he kissed you on your ear and then put his paw on your shoulder as if to say, “We’re cool” when you wanted him to stop. Thanks for sharing.
You can buy a small 12v DC rice cooker on Amazon.
Adult trike with a basket 💜 Yes if walls could 💜 Just chilling weather 💜
Chrome, you can cook so many other things in a rice cooker (rice, stews, bake). However, if you get an electric pressure cooker (not slow cooker), it's even better! It's a rice cooker on steroids and doesn't draw too much power. I own a Phillips pressure cooker.
Lol you boys are frickin adorable! ❤️
Hey Chrome and Cruz... Chrome you just come across weird stuff...and we love it... Thanks for the video 🦁🐶🦁🐶🦁🐶🦁
Old european recipy: 'bed rice'. Boil rice in recommended amount of water for 5 min. Take off stove and cover in bedsheets. The rice continues on its own til ready (approx. half hour). Result wise its all about the amount of water. Will take some testing. Works very well. Have fun!
Not only can you use that little rice cooker I placed below, but I will also give you my cheesy broccoli chicken and rice recipe. I use this when I am camping for a homecooked bit of yumminess. Bon Appetit
Ingredients
drizzle olive oil (about 1/2 tablespoon or less)
1 Can Chicken
1 Sweet onion, diced
½ tsp kosher salt
½ tsp pepper
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup uncooked white basmati rice
2 cups chicken stock
2 cups broccoli florets
2 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded and divided
Instructions
In a large pan, drizzle olive oil and heat over medium-high heat.
Add onion and garlic, saute until onion is translucent and season with salt and pepper.
Add rice and stir to combine, then continue to stir for 1 - 2 minutes.
Add the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15 minutes.
Add broccoli, but don't mix in, just add to the top, and cover. Cook an additional 5 to 7 minutes or until rice is tender.
Stir in the Canned Chicken and 1 cup of cheese until cheese has melted.
Top with the remaining cup of cheese. Cover with lid and let sit for 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted and serve immediately.
Sounds great and easy!
More urban exploration please.

VanLife is Awesome. We have been RVing for 11 years, love the Nomad life. love the purple lights. Cool T-Shirt!
I was born and raised in Salinas, we were migrants who worked in and lived moved with the seasonal growth of lettuce; we were migrants, worked in the fields, orchards and vineyards, moved 5-7 times every year. I miss when is pick a head of lettuce, eat just the heart (light green inside part) with my lunch with the other girls on a mind of dirt in the furrows. We traded lunches; I'm very proud to say, my Okie Momma's cooking was the best, other girls ALWAYS argued over trading with me!! I do miss that transient life once in a while; then again, I had a lot of it growing up!
I love watching videos like this. Keep up the great work man! Stay safe out there
Chrome - all you need is a 3qt instant pot. The reason you want that is it is sealed tight so when you drive, it wont spill everything everywhere. It is the best in an RV! And, since you drive everywhere, you can put what you want in it 20 minutes before you want to stop and then just enjoy after you stop. I ran mine off my Jackery 1K after hurricane delta when I didnt have power for 2 days. It was a blessing. My 100 watt solar panel completely filled my Jackery back up each day so was not worried about consumption as my regular refrigerator was running off my Jackery also. 3qt instant pot and Jackery combo is the way to go!
‘Cruz put your pecker away’! I’m still chuckling 😂😂. Great to see you back on the road Chrome. Glad you had a good one 👍x
Perfect rice... start with a heavy pot and tight fitting lid. Equal amts rice/water. Rinse rice til water is clear/ you can soak rice 10 min in your van then rinse. Bring rice and water to a boil. Cover and turn to simmer 25 min. No peaking. Fluff with a fork when ready. Love your videos and cute bulldog.🇨🇦🥰
This is such a dream of mine .. love watching your pure happiness in being free to just take in life ...

That's scary Chrome, you don't know who might be living their (ghost) that can attach to you, or even a dead body. Stay safe.
Made me wonder if Chrome carries protection on those explorations
The key to good rice is starting with the right water rice ratio for the rice. Then you bring it to a boil, then lid it and turn it off or very low but do not move it. Stir as little as possible or not at all, check it it 20 min, most rice is done beautifully and without a rice cooker.
Yes buy the one by Aroma do not buy Hamilton Beach it takes 45 mins, Aroma takes 20mins
Perfect rice: standard pan. 1cup of rice, 2 cups of water. Bring to boil. Stir. Put lid on. Turn of power. Leave. Don't remove lid for 15 minutes...let steam.
Try a little one for two that makes two cups. I have a friend who lives in and he uses it and said dam good.
I used the small rice cooker from Walmart it makes perfect rice and has its own measuring cup
I agree. Glad you have found your home. It's being in and appreciating the moment.

Hi from Ireland 🇮🇪 Love watching your videos Chrome. They have always got a great vibe about them!
Regardless of where you're at, you are home. Home is where you lay your head. About the rice cooker, i don't think you need one really all you need is a little more time cooking rice. Throw your rice in a pot and pour just enough of your water to cover the top of your rice and put a lid over it and keep your eye on it. When its finished let it set for a few then take a fork and fluff the top of the rice. You got this!
I have a 2 quart pressure cooker that I use on my gas stove takes about 12 minutes the cook rice more than enough for single person I live out of short van also low roof that is
First time I've commented but have been following your vids for a while, I love your openness and honesty. Thank you for your videos. Watching them is a way for me to connect with where I grew up as I know a lot of places you spend your time. I was born and raised in Vancouver and live in Tokyo. One of the first places I practically lived at here as the food was so cheap we called the "Pig". It was a small place, 10 seats at a counter going from the front door to the toilet, the Master (chef), in behind the counter doing all his magic. The Mama-san (Master's wife) was in charge of making the rice and made a HUGE batch each time. Me, being me, always tried to mess her up when she was counting the cups of rice to put into the rice cooker, we're talking more than 30 cups, a large commercial cooker. After months of my attempts to mess her up (there was normally a large amount of alcohol consumed at this place) while she usually just laughed at me and shook her head she finally told me that she never counts and showed me her trick which I have used to this day regardless of the type of appliance, pot etc. I am cooking the rice in.
This is referring to white rice. Brown rice and others sometime need to soak first.
Most important, wash & rinse the rice several times until the water running off is clear, not cloudy, do NOT skip that step. After that is done, add water. Place the pot you are cooking the rice in on a level surface and shake the pot back and forth to try and level the rice out in the water. Insert your fingers, all together and extended, at the far edge of the pot and pull the submerged rice towards the center of the pot. When done, if the rice just touches the surface of the water, you have the right amount of water. If the rice breaks the surface, it might be a little dry, some people like that. If the rice doesn't touch the surface then drain some water out and check again, no one likes soggy rice. This technique is foolproof. If using a simple pot with a lid, once the rice boils, turn it to simmer and DON'T remove the lid. Weigh it down if possible to create a better seal. That's it! Tips from the land of Rising Sun.
Back at it finally. Can’t wait to see all the adventure videos. Stay staff
After washing the rice just use the finger method. The first line on your middle finger is always the perfect way to measure the water. Thats the way you cook rice. Also, you can just use those propane to cook rice. 11 kgs of propane tank usually lasts a month or more on an asian household depending on the number of family members you have and the volume of food you cook. Great setup you have.
This is my first time watching you and the very adorable partner of yours. Love your energy.
Rice is simple. 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water. I toast my Jasmine or Basmati rice with a little dab of butter. Toast the rice, add the water. Bring to a boil put the lid on top reduce heat to simmer. Turn off heat after 10 mins and let it stand another 5 mins. Today! Fluffy rice.
A wise man once said “home is where you make it” that man was joe dirt
When I cook rice, I use the brand called Niko Niko Calrose Rice...and I usually use 1 cup of rice to 2 cups water. I was told when using short-grain rice, always double water amount compared to amount of rice. Meaning, if you want to cook 1 cup rice, use 2 cups water. If you want to use 2 cups rice, use 4 cups of water.
I add the rice right after water starts to boil and then I turn heat down to 'medium'. About every 10 minutes or so, I stir rice, checking to make sure it doesn't 'stick'. After about 20+ minutes, the rice is pretty much done and that's when I move the pan to another burner and let it sit for another 5 minutes or so.
Comes out 'banging good'... :-)
I’ve been meaning to tell you that I really like your rig, even before you got it redone. I like the barn doors and all the stuff on the doors. So well thought out.
I absolutely Love your positivity and Joy of Life!!
