Living full-time in my rolling tiny home has been the best decision of my life. Off-Grid living offers a peace and connection to life that you just can't explain. When i first started van life i build a stealth camper van with the mindset the you had to live a stealth van life and i soon discovered that you can just live the city van life and boondock in the countryside and as long as you are respectful of the backcountry and cities you live in. Stealth van life in not necessary. Be proud of the life you choose to live, Share this van life journey with everyone. Remember Tiny Homes and The whole tiny house lifestyle is very popular and #vanlife is no different. When you don't hide it people will come say hi and ask you questions. The world is more curious than hateful. Well......Welcome to my everyday van life adventures. My name is Chrome Valdez and i travel full-time with Cruz the bulldog. Stay weird everyone and thank you for being here.

Regarding any electrical Appliance the wattage stated is the maximum Watts. Once the rice cooker comes up to temperature it will throttle right back to a much-reduced wattage, or the rice would burn. Just like when you make rice on the gas stove once it boils you turn the flame right down.

Now bring water to boil add dash salt and 1/2 tsp butter add rice put cover on it let set on lowest heat for 5 min then turn off and let sit about 15 to 20 minutes and it will be perfect.

Cooks rice, makes fantastic hard/soft boiled eggs, great for soups and stews and such, and you can use sauté feature like a hot plate. Make sure bring to a boil and it's bubbling everywhere before covering with a tight fit lid! Turn heat to the lowest setting and don't touch for at least 20 mins!
It usually takes a few trial and errors with rice!

Just pre-soak the rice and it will cook faster even on the stove and if possible use a properly sealed pot like those with a well fitted lid and it will cook with less fuel/power. Plus make sure you stop cooking justa few mins before it's fully cooked and let it stay covered in the hot pot itself. It will cook up fully by the time you get other stuff ready for your meal.

A thought came to mind for your rice cooker... SOLAR for power. I don’t know how exactly it would work, but it wouldn’t be a battery drain. Enjoyed your video. You have a warm, kind, lovely genuine personality and your dog is so precious. He loves you. Loved how he kissed you on your ear and then put his paw on your shoulder as if to say, “We’re cool” when you wanted him to stop. Thanks for sharing.

Chrome, you can cook so many other things in a rice cooker (rice, stews, bake). However, if you get an electric pressure cooker (not slow cooker), it's even better! It's a rice cooker on steroids and doesn't draw too much power. I own a Phillips pressure cooker.

Old european recipy: 'bed rice'. Boil rice in recommended amount of water for 5 min. Take off stove and cover in bedsheets. The rice continues on its own til ready (approx. half hour). Result wise its all about the amount of water. Will take some testing. Works very well. Have fun!

Not only can you use that little rice cooker I placed below, but I will also give you my cheesy broccoli chicken and rice recipe. I use this when I am camping for a homecooked bit of yumminess. Bon Appetit
    Ingredients
drizzle olive oil (about 1/2 tablespoon or less)
    1 Can Chicken
    1 Sweet onion, diced
    ½ tsp kosher salt
    ½ tsp pepper
    3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup uncooked white basmati rice
    2 cups chicken stock
    2 cups broccoli florets
2 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded and divided
    Instructions
In a large pan, drizzle olive oil and heat over medium-high heat.
Add onion and garlic, saute until onion is translucent and season with salt and pepper.
Add rice and stir to combine, then continue to stir for 1 - 2 minutes.
Add the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15 minutes.
Add broccoli, but don't mix in, just add to the top, and cover. Cook an additional 5 to 7 minutes or until rice is tender.
Stir in the Canned Chicken and 1 cup of cheese until cheese has melted.
Top with the remaining cup of cheese. Cover with lid and let sit for 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted and serve immediately.

I was born and raised in Salinas, we were migrants who worked in and lived moved with the seasonal growth of lettuce; we were migrants, worked in the fields, orchards and vineyards, moved 5-7 times every year. I miss when is pick a head of lettuce, eat just the heart (light green inside part) with my lunch with the other girls on a mind of dirt in the furrows. We traded lunches; I'm very proud to say, my Okie Momma's cooking was the best, other girls ALWAYS argued over trading with me!! I do miss that transient life once in a while; then again, I had a lot of it growing up!

Chrome - all you need is a 3qt instant pot. The reason you want that is it is sealed tight so when you drive, it wont spill everything everywhere. It is the best in an RV! And, since you drive everywhere, you can put what you want in it 20 minutes before you want to stop and then just enjoy after you stop. I ran mine off my Jackery 1K after hurricane delta when I didnt have power for 2 days. It was a blessing. My 100 watt solar panel completely filled my Jackery back up each day so was not worried about consumption as my regular refrigerator was running off my Jackery also. 3qt instant pot and Jackery combo is the way to go!

The key to good rice is starting with the right water rice ratio for the rice. Then you bring it to a boil, then lid it and turn it off or very low but do not move it. Stir as little as possible or not at all, check it it 20 min, most rice is done beautifully and without a rice cooker.

Regardless of where you're at, you are home. Home is where you lay your head. About the rice cooker, i don't think you need one really all you need is a little more time cooking rice. Throw your rice in a pot and pour just enough of your water to cover the top of your rice and put a lid over it and keep your eye on it. When its finished let it set for a few then take a fork and fluff the top of the rice. You got this!

First time I've commented but have been following your vids for a while, I love your openness and honesty. Thank you for your videos. Watching them is a way for me to connect with where I grew up as I know a lot of places you spend your time. I was born and raised in Vancouver and live in Tokyo. One of the first places I practically lived at here as the food was so cheap we called the "Pig". It was a small place, 10 seats at a counter going from the front door to the toilet, the Master (chef), in behind the counter doing all his magic. The Mama-san (Master's wife) was in charge of making the rice and made a HUGE batch each time. Me, being me, always tried to mess her up when she was counting the cups of rice to put into the rice cooker, we're talking more than 30 cups, a large commercial cooker. After months of my attempts to mess her up (there was normally a large amount of alcohol consumed at this place) while she usually just laughed at me and shook her head she finally told me that she never counts and showed me her trick which I have used to this day regardless of the type of appliance, pot etc. I am cooking the rice in.
This is referring to white rice. Brown rice and others sometime need to soak first.
Most important, wash & rinse the rice several times until the water running off is clear, not cloudy, do NOT skip that step. After that is done, add water. Place the pot you are cooking the rice in on a level surface and shake the pot back and forth to try and level the rice out in the water. Insert your fingers, all together and extended, at the far edge of the pot and pull the submerged rice towards the center of the pot. When done, if the rice just touches the surface of the water, you have the right amount of water. If the rice breaks the surface, it might be a little dry, some people like that. If the rice doesn't touch the surface then drain some water out and check again, no one likes soggy rice. This technique is foolproof. If using a simple pot with a lid, once the rice boils, turn it to simmer and DON'T remove the lid. Weigh it down if possible to create a better seal. That's it! Tips from the land of Rising Sun.

After washing the rice just use the finger method. The first line on your middle finger is always the perfect way to measure the water. Thats the way you cook rice. Also, you can just use those propane to cook rice. 11 kgs of propane tank usually lasts a month or more on an asian household depending on the number of family members you have and the volume of food you cook. Great setup you have.

When I cook rice, I use the brand called Niko Niko Calrose Rice...and I usually use 1 cup of rice to 2 cups water. I was told when using short-grain rice, always double water amount compared to amount of rice. Meaning, if you want to cook 1 cup rice, use 2 cups water. If you want to use 2 cups rice, use 4 cups of water.
I add the rice right after water starts to boil and then I turn heat down to 'medium'. About every 10 minutes or so, I stir rice, checking to make sure it doesn't 'stick'. After about 20+ minutes, the rice is pretty much done and that's when I move the pan to another burner and let it sit for another 5 minutes or so.
    Comes out 'banging good'... :-)
