Redstone Powered Flower Farms! ▫ Minecraft Survival Guide S3 ▫ Tutorial Let's Play [Ep.89]

- The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3 continues in Minecraft 1.20.4!
In this tutorial, we take a quick look at redstone flower farms - both shifting floor flower farms and simple auto farms for 2-tall flowers.
The shifting floor designs are best placed in Flower Forest biomes for reliable flower output, so we explore the local Flower Forest for flowers we can't find anywhere else - among them tulips and alliums!
Later, we use the same design to help us gather warped and crimson fungus for our tree farm, and nether roots we can compost for renewable bonemeal!
These simple redstone devices can provide a renewable supply of flowers for decoration, or easy access to most colours of dye.

Note on around 5:30 - The flower gradient in flower forests is 3D, so checking the flowers on the height of the actual farm is kind-of important. Technically the gradient is also 3D for meadows, but it's usually not relevant, since the areas of the same flower type(s) are so large.
Speaking of meadows, they can be a great source of one or two types of flowers, especially in the absence of nearby flower forests. Otherwise, plains biomes are a source of dandelions (yellow, make up the majority of the flowers), poppies (red), cornflowers (blue), azure bluets and oxeye daisies (both light gray). Many other biomes in the overworld only spawn dandelions and poppies this way. However, mushroom fields, badlands, mangrove swamps, and various mountain biomes, as well as nether and end biomes do not spawn any flowers.
As cornflowers (as far as I know) are the only way to get renewable blue dyes, they're kinda important. I mean there's also Lapis that you can buy from clerics, and I did that for blue dyes until now, but come on, farmable versions that can be left to run automatically are always superior.
do plains also have specific areas for flowers or is it just random and you get all 5 everywhere?
@@hhff8534Plains are supposed to have rare spots where all the tulips grow instead of the other flowers (maybe dandelions and tulips). The thing is, I don't think I've seen any of those spots for quite a while.
But yes, whether tulips or regular area, the flowers you get are completely randomized.
@@hhff8534 I'm pretty sure that the whole flower spawning system is not really biome locked. The biome only decides the type of flowers in the pool to decide for the spawn for a specific block, but it doesn't change once a spot was set to a flower.
Meaning it's the same for every biome, once a flower spawned in a location, it can be said, that the same flower will spawn there every time.
Dude. Recap, SOS, and still the survival guide?! And don't think we didn't notice all the unrelated streams and such. You're killing it! Thank you for all the content and hard work!
Roughly every year or so (typically during the winter months) I embark on a new Minecraft journey with the kids and Pixlriffs is always our go-to. Thank you for being an ever-present part of our Minecraft journeys 👏
On bedrock, even small flowers can be bone mealed to produce some more of that same flower (except for dandelions and poppies wich can produce the other as well).
So as long as you've got one of each flowers, you can reproduce them infinitely at home, wherever home is!
So I would recommend seeking bedrock flower farms!
As a side note, this doesn't work with the flowers from Sniffer seeds or wither roses! Rest in peace my hopes of a more reliable source of black dye outside of a squid farm
@@neosiaxiom4211 Good point!
Although, there are wither rose farms designs for Bedrock. But let's be honest, both of those farms are annoying in their own way!
certain designs of flower farms on bedrock compost the flowers, and end up making more bone meal than you spend, thus making it a bone meal farm. and the good thing is that it doesn't break, unlike moss farms
I really enjoyed watching this video. It was posted when I was not feeling good so when it was posted and i got to watch it and it made my day.
Off topic to this video, but I’ve been playing for years and with the help of your videos, I finally beat the ender dragon for the first time last night! (After doing way too many other things like building and getting distracted with terraforming)
Can’t wait to get my first elytra!
🎉 congrats!!!
If I may: practice in the overworld (or creative) before flying in the end 😅
Mud blocks, I hadnt even thought of that! I love using flowers in my builds, it adds a layer of immersion and color that you cant really get any other way.
Why did he use mud blocks again? 🤔
@@mysticfox9718 it’s not a full block so items can go through it down to plain hoppers and you can grow stuff on it. You could use hopper minecarts and dirt but this makes a neater system overall.
@@nessybleedsf8 ohhhhhhh I didn’t know that! 😮 that’s really cool!
You can "open" the fence gate from the outside so that the overhang is on the inside of the bubble column
Finally subscribed! Been watching since early season 1 :j Keep up the great crafts, you’re nearly up to the 1.0M mark 🎉 ps, always enjoyed your time-lapse vids
I am still working on rebuilding my auto inventory sorter - then I want to "grow" a building. Yup. And then I'll work on my flower farms. Gosh, lots to do Pixl. And I'm working on fur faces yard so we can move into our teensy tiny cottage. :-) Having fun! Thanks loads Pixl!!
love the progression of this series, it's been helping me so much in my own minecraft adventures 💜
For the sunflowers, I had to put the dispenser one block higher in order to bonemeal them
Oooh! I’ve been wanting to figure out how to farm every type of flower for a long time. Thank you!
Keeping up the Survival Guide while doing SOS? Super happy about that!
Fantastic timing on the video! I was just building a flower farm on Friday and couldn't work out the piston / dispenser timing.
I was literally just starting yo top up my flowers and dyes 🎉
This is one more reason i prefer bedrock. Get one of every flower, put a hole in the ground, plant a 1 tall flower, bonemeal it with grass surrounding it, and you now have 4 to 10 of that flower.
2 tall flowers just need directly bonemealed and they pop off automatically.
Nothing against java edition, but bedrock has the advantage here.
fortune 3 also works on the tall flowers if you break them at the base. sadly, it is getting patched soon
What I usually do when I need dyes:
I have built 1 to 1 automatic bonemeal to 2 tall flower converters tucked in a smaller room in the roof of my old base that I started in 1.14, and have been using since. That means bonemeal -> red, yellow, magenta, pink
the bonemeal I'd be using there -> white
a cactus farm I have running under the base, alongside a ton of other farms: green
colors I can combine from these: orange, lime
Due to a half manual wither rose farm I have in the end, I can get access to wither roses, but the rates are pretty weak, so I'll not count that.
Missing:
required: blue, brown, black
could combine into if I had the above:
cyan, light blue, gray, light gray
Result:
I'll have to build a cocobean farm (Currently I've been growing them on a small wall piece of the building where I put in some jungle wood instead of spruce, in case I ever needed it)
I'll have to build a better wither rose farm, because what I have now is atrocious in terms of rates
I'll have to find a way to farm blue. Any way for it. So far, I've been using lapis for it, but there are definietly better ways. A Cornflower farm I guess would work?
As for how I built the 1-to-1 converters:
dispenser is aiming at the bottom part of the flower, the bonemeal is entering from 1 side through a hopper. It also has another hopper with a barrel on top leading to it, as that barrel is the accessible point for the bonemeal input. (obviously, 1-1 separately for each color)
As for how it activates, there's a comparator reading the amount of items in the dispenser. If it has items in it, it light up, which is read by the observer under it, that pulses a sticky piston, that starts a vertical observer clock under the dispenser, by pulling the bottom observer in place. The way I handled how a hopper can collect the drops from below waswith farmland, and not mud though. As mud wasn't yet present in 1.14. The water to keep the farmland hydrated is in a waterlogger stair that's turned in a direction, so If a flower wereto shoot off in the direction of the hopper beside the flower, and somehow get stuck there, it'd still fall down to the level where the hopper below can catch it. (the non-full quarter is facing the flower)The 4 modules basically made a wall, with a bunch of trapdoors covering what I didn't want to show/be visible, and to see the flowers themselves, I used oak trapdoors in front of the flowers, while spruce everywhere else. The output is also coming in a barrel, so no visible hoppers except for the one that's under the input barrel, and maybe a portion of the one that's behind it that leads to the dispenser.
Do note: you can always build 2 of these modules with the comparators facing into each other, giving you the option to build them side by side while mirrored, without the comparators blocking the bonemeal input hoppers of the module next to them. Total volume of the modules: 2 deep, 4 tall, 3 wide + output. If we include th coverage of the water, so it doesn't spill, and the output as well, than 3 deep. The 1 block difference in height between the front and back side of the 2 blocks depth that actuallyhouse the redstone made it so I could place it right under the roof, with a minimal amount of wasted space.
cyan dye is also from blue and green, light blue can be made from white and blue, blue from leftover lapiz lazuli
Oh my goodness your on the 3rd survival guide? I remember when you first started these ,they're still as amazing as I remember.
The flower farm is amazing 🤩
Hey Pixlriffs I am an og fan of yours, I am loving the series and your explanations, I would love to see your opinion on which is the fastest xp farm according to you (possible in survival mc java), it must give xp efficiently and require now hell lot of xp points.
Love your content ;)
He already covered this a few episodes ago.
Saved this video until after i was done work... Hopefully i can stay awake... I'm on meds that make me very dizzy and sleepy.
In Bedrock, you can use any tool with Fortune on the two-tall flowers. In a few minutes of replanting & harvesting, you'll have more than enough flowers that you could compost the excess into bonemeal for use on the smaller flowers.
Heyo! Thanks for new episode!
14:49: When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves ... then the sunflower will face you, and not before. (Or you could build the farm facing the other way).
OMG just in time!!! me and my girlfriend want to make a firework show over one of our villages but we need a lot of dye and ice never made a flower farm before!
This is Great 👍
14:51 That would bug me enough to re-orient the entire farm so you usually look at it from the west.
Годное видео!
Next episode: Pixlriffs builds a multi-story building that has all the necessary automatic farms inside it.
In Bedrock you can bonemeal the small flowers to instantly produce more. Should definitely be in Java.
Ive witnessed the growth of this channel, from episode 1, of the very first survival guide 1.13 - 1.20 something? I think
Every so often I have an idea for something new I want to do in my minecraft world only to wake up the next morning to see Pix has made a survival guide for the exact thing I was thinking about...
It's a little weird that this keeps happening, but as someone who knows barely anything about redstone, I really do appreciate seeing more simple versions of farms like this one is. Definitely less overwhelming than following a more complicated redstone tutorial.
Wake up babe- wait where are you going babe there's a tutorial for a flower farm today- babe i will get you flowers in minecraft
Hello pixelriffs! I was just wondering when were u thinking to start a new survival guide.?
I don't currently plan to restart this series any time soon! We'll update to new versions and cover new content when they arrive, but this world is just getting started :)
@@Pixlriffs yo pix, babes woken up aside, can I ask will you do that QnA tradition you always do at episode 101 if I remembered correctly?
@@Pixlriffs cryptic...
Could do a episode on how to used decto rails. want too make a farm to used bamboo as fuel but dont how too make the minecart chest know when full too go fuel the funace and go back again.
Are you ever gonna add a proper floor to your storage building?
Stop me if you have already made this one. I'm on a server. And, pistons cause server-wide lag. May I please ask you to either make a piston-free version or link me to one? Keep up the awesome work. And, take care. \o
🎉
Put the bonemeal on the flower & it will give you the flower you’ve bonemeal. 😊
This doesn’t work for 1-block flowers on Java edition! Only the 2-high flowers can be directly cloned with bonemeal - and this excludes Pitcher Plants because they’re grown from seeds
is there really no other way to get flowers except making a farm for every flower spot for type of flower?
Hello pix :)
im at 1.20.4 and having problem with piglins that spawn in the portals, anyone in common ??
I will never get over the fact that you can't combine blue and yellow dyes to make green 😬
Wake up babe, new survival guide episode has dropped.
Give me your world seed please❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Pix always includes the world seed in his SG3 video descriptions, you can find it there 👍

I'm sorry… . *(⬯⇀⬯)*
Would you please switch rose color container withe purple color container?
Pink Shulker Box is alright. But its neighbors needs to be swapped.
- Pretty please? *{´°⩊°`}*
"Rose" isn't one of the Minecraft colours, so I'm not sure which ones you mean.
Currently the shulker boxes are arranged:
Red, Orange, Yellow, Lime
Green, Cyan, Light Blue, Blue
Pink, Magenta, Purple, Brown
White, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Black
I _think_ you mean swap pink with purple (leaving magenta where it is) so that when you you read them top-to-bottom, left-to-right it goes "blue, purple, magenta, pink"? If so, that is also how I order my shulker boxes (except I have brown between red and orange, because that leaves pink is next to white in the sequence).
Although that's how I order them in a line - with it being a 4x4 grid maybe it would look better to have the gradient spiral in to the middle so that it doesn't get broken up between the rows... 🤔
@Braiba
Excellent choice.
Very inspiring indeed.
_(I thought I corrected it 2 hours ago anyway._
_But apparently, I must have forgotten to press the “save” button.)_
