Ive got a few different brands but I keep going back to the ESP LTD's. Love playing them and they come with coil tapping quite often so pretty versatile. Their NAMM stuff is out of this world too!
Wow you must have gotten a real pos Lester. My lp standard is amazing. Studio sounds and plays great (despite ancient design), but I agree the fit and finish is not as good as the Ltd, neither are the specs
I only had one Gibson it was the studio LP, it sounded great but way too expensive, so I sold it then bought a Fender Strat and an ESP Eclipse-II. I sold the LP for $1,200 and paid $2,200 for the ESP and fender, Gibsons are easy to sell as the demand for them is much greater compared to brands like ESP.
I agree with everything you said. Personally, I've never got on with Les Pauls, but I tried an LTD black metal and it's awesome. The sustain and playability blew me away. Also, the 24 frets and fairly easy access make it easy to swap to from my usual Ibanez/Jackson guitars. It became my only single cut.
I just saw your video on your Floyd version. Glad you like it so much. Mine was a great quality guitar and I gave it a real chance, I even gigged with it. But I ended up flipping it for an Ibanez RG631ALF with a hard tail and Fishman Fluence modern pickups. I guess I'm just an Ibanez guy.
I've been playing for 30 years & went thru a dozen high-end Jackson's, Ibanez, ESP's. Finally got a Gibson Les Paul (2019 Traditional). I feel like I've arrived. Best f*cking guitar I've ever played.
Yeah gibby LPs are amazing. I have a standard LP gibby from 2016. It had the PUPS swapped out for hand wounded ones with higher output on the neck pickup and it goes out of phase. It's an amazing guitar. I don't understand all the hate for Gibson. For me a Gibby LP is just a magnificent guitar
I have both a Slash Les Paul w/his signature pickups and an ESP Deluxe LTD ec-1000 w/EMG 60/81s. Both brand new and I can't put the ESP down. I absolutely love it. Less than 1/2 the price and frickin awesome. I wish I had bought 2 ESPs. Using Ernie Ball cobalt 10-46 on both. Both are dreams, ESP just looks, feels and plays better. Thanks for your videos!
You are scaring me to death flinging them around in that small space. 😆 Love it though! I have 2 EC-1000s, an MH-1000, and an MH-350-FR. Love them all. I've picked up Les Pauls and they just felt clunky all around. IMO, LTD has the best single cut on the market. To each their own though.
i tried 8 les paul shape guitars at the shop, and walked out with a Gibson Studio 2016, it was enough to hit a chord to make a decision..Great experience
Oh and... I think you have the potential to become a very good RUclipsr (you're already doing a very good job, despite this being your fourth vid)! Keep 'em coming, dude.

Great video man! I have a e-ii eclipse, ltd ec-1000 deluxe and a Gibson Les Paul 2016 Standard Plus( I saved very long to get these used)I will say they are all pretty different. The e-ii hands down has the best build quality, and it just feels fantastic. The ltd is similar, but quite the same quality. Still really good, and it sounds great. The Gibson feels great and I love the neck shape. However, the inlays lift, and the binding is sloppy. You can actually feel/see the binding above the neck paint, it needed to be scrapped more. No other guitar I've owned had either of these issues. Honestly, I would say none win in tone, they all sound very good.
I just bought myself an LTD EC-256 (which is the second cheapest model from ESP LTD) and it plays so much better than expensive Epiphones! 😮 This might sound as an unfair comparison, but it's even nicer to play than my Fender Strat made in Japan (talking about ease of play/comfort). This is my first ESP LTD, but certainly not my last one! :-) Upgrading to an EC-1000 whenever I got the money for it.
@@zenithlaishram8966 youre right. Cheapest is ec-10, piece of shit I must say. I own an ec-256, upgraded with hipshot locking tuners and a set of RandyMod active pickups and it’s a beast.
I've got an ec1000 vb with EMG's 24v mod and couldn't be happier. I've owned and played alot of Les pauls, but for the money esp is the better choice imo I really like that Les Paul man. That natural top really does it for me. Keep the videos coming 🤘
I have a 2012 left handed EC 1000 LTD deluxe. It had EMG's, gold appontments and that. The Fishman Fluence Pup's are superb. I have a friend he has a Bacus with Fluence's in it and it sounds next level. I swapped out the EMG's recently for some Bare Knuckle Polymath's. I'm still getting that high gain but i don't have to worry about a leaky 9v battery, passive Pup's are a preference, for me, and they sound and look amazing. So glad i invested in an Eclipse. I have a Les Paul Standard and a Tribute. The ESP is a better quality Guitar than both my Gibsons . The finish on the thing is jaw dropping. For just over a grand you get a lot of Guitar. Lots of inovation, real high quality appointments. If ESP / LTD can produce instruments to this standard for the prices they do then why aren't Gibson doing it? To be fair the last Gibson i bought was the Tribute. Budget Les Paul i know, but compared to ones made 10 - 15 years earlier and not specificaly the Tribute , they were pretty bad quality wise. I saw some sad Guitars by Gibson from the late 80's to beyond the 2000's but they seem to be getting their act together a little but still not enough to beat these for value and build quality. If you have Gas and you have to indulge yourself then these Guitars are the Bee's Knee's. If anyone gets a chance to play an Eclipse, go for it, their pure class.
I had a few LTD singlcuts year ago. Then I sold them all and replaced them with a few Gibsons. Then I sold those Gibsons because I miss the thinner neck shape and tuning stability on the LTDs.
Good luck with your channel Jed - your passion for guitars comes through. Personally I like the look of the LTD but think the sound of the Gibson, although very similar, is just a little warmer.
I just got an LTD EC-1000T CTM, full Gibson thickness on the body. 5 ply binding on the body(front and back), neck, and headstock. Ebony fretboard, flame maple cap, mohogony body/neck, satin on the neck, gloss on the body, 22- extra jumbo stainless steel frets, Fishman Opencore pickups with two push pull knobs for the different voicings, see thru-dark cherry, tone-pro locking tail and bridge, LTD Locking tuners, gold hardware. Bro its amazing and I'm so in-love with this guitar. Probs gonna marry it.
Greetings Shane , your new ltd ec - 1000 t ctm . Can this guitar do blues , classic rock , hard rock , country , metal , grunge and punk . Also , what amp is best suited with this guitar. Seems like these new fishman pickups are very versatile, it can cover a wide range of styles depending on what amp and your eq settings. Just curious 🤨
Dude just got a LTD EC- 1000 T CMT see-thru dark cherry. Plek'd and a bone nut installed. It is GLORIOUS. Next I'll go for a studio or a Classic I think. I wanted this ltd in the "T" version cause I wanted that double binding. And full thickness, its chambered, so it's only 8.2lbs. Cool video homeskillet!
Wow that’s a great weight. I’ll bet it’s beautiful. Those trans red esps are insane. I’ve been thinking about picking up one of the vipers for a while.
@@jed_shred_guitars yeah if you want that metal tone, well also can get a pretty good vintage tone also with the Fishman fluence open core pickups, in the T model. It has 3 voices, PAF ,hot rodd'ed, and single coil. But you get that Custom LP look. I think you can get the Fishmans in a Viper also. My LTD is a better guitar than I am a player. I feel kinda sorry for my lady in Red. I can push her to her full potential. LoL Get that Viper and let me know!! Keep on Rocking bro
I have one of those Faded T's in worn cherry. Absolutely fantastic guitar and I put it right up there with my R0 as far as playability and sound. Not a fan of LTD or ESP brands but absolutely love their Edwards brand. I have a few really rare Edwards guitars that have high end quality feel and parts.
Good luck with your channel. You should do well. The most important thing is personality and you got it! For capturing guitar tones it might be best to use a load box and IRs.
The LTD has some bright tones as well as more tribble, as for the Gibson it has more beefy sound to it. As a Les Paul player and a Pop Punker, I prefer to use the LTD.
Yeah man... gotta go for the Gibson for sure! Thanks for the vid. I'm actually a drummer that's been stepping the guitar up a notch this year. I'm playing a lower end Ibanez S series right now. I've always loved the tone of Les Paul Standard! I'm trying to convince myself ESP might sound similar. Can't even compare. Your Les Paul sounds like... a Les Paul. The EC-1000 has its own sound. It still kicks ass though. Sounds like the Special would sound interesting with different pick-ups? The factory pickups seem to have somewhat of a classic rock or blues vibe (that's cool). I prefer a little modern tone mixed in as well. This shootout helped me finally decide. It should sound good with the Friedman- Mini Dirty Shirley I'm getting this month. If you guys haven't heard... Friedman's announcing their new Mini Shirley in 60 to 90 days. Over 63,000 views, good job man!!!
Go play a bunch of Les Paul’s and ltds. If you like the look/feel/fit and finish of the Ltd put Your favorite Gibson pickups in it and will sound dangerously closw
Good vid man i thought the influence pups would of been alot brighter? If your new to home recording and dont wanna record from that pratice amp check out amp sims/ guitar IRs and impulses
I'm torn, I dig the grunginess of the studio, but also like the playability and some of the finish options on the EC-1000 ... if esp made faded finish ... I think the ESP is probably a better tool for the stuff I play most of the time. Its good enough for Gary Holt and that not nothing. Great Video.
ESP is a custom guitar brand if you want the finish to be faded just make them built it you... They build my guitar just as i wanted it to be but it costs...
I have the same issue reaching the high registers on my Epi Les Paul Black Beauty vs the ESP LTD 401. I like the guitars equally, and I realize that each are unique sonically, but the ergonomics are better on the ESP LTD than the mahogany bodied, standard configured LPs from Epi and Gibson.
Yea I want either a EC1000 or EC401 . I’ve been a les Paul fan for many years and owned them all except the custom . The only thing I’m not crazy about on the ESP/LTD s is the huge frets. But may have to just stomach that and possibly have the frets filed down some if that’s feasible
The EC1000T CTM is the full thickness ESP/LTD and they are chambered. I have 2x of the old LTD full thickness EC1000T CTM's I love them. I love the thinner bodies too. ESP / LTD's are the most comfortable guitars I've ever played. Their neck profile is called a Thin U. I also love the XJ frets on LTD's.
My 2020 Korean EC-1000 in matte black is seriously so nice. Probably the most comfortable guitar I own. I've read various reviews of people complaining of QC once they moved the production to Indonesia. It would be cool to try one out for comparison.
I just got an Indonesian ec-fr black metal and it is as close to perfect as it gets. I’ve been looking at all the new ltds coming in and Indonesian is as good as Korean now. A lot of them are as good (fit and finish) as Japanese e-ii and e-ii doesn’t have stainless frets.
Since this guy seem sto really know his stuff, I wanted to ask either him or any of you peeps in the comments...have any of you had any hands-on with the Fender Rarities quilt-maple top blue cloud finished telecaster? REALLY want one after watching a few videos but have no idea if it's really worth the price tag.
I swear by esp. not just for metal. I play in a punk band and say what you want about actives, emgs specifically despite this being about the fluence edition, which I actually love emgs, and it does the job wonderfully there. You can also get clean tones that 95% of the general public will be happy with. The playability is just insane and the quality at the Ltd price point is just too good. Then if you get into the e-ii line, it’s just a whole other level of quality. Gibson’s quality control really put me off, on top of that with what you pay for on top of the lack of care, it really just rubs me the wrong way. It’s sad because all my guitar hero’s played Gibson. But I think if esp stays consistent like this, I’ll stay with them for a long time to come.
Sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Xzavier Louis Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I like that you played the same riff/s. Maybe throw in the cleanest tone demo with basic open chords? Then metal up the tones to your preferences how you prefer them. Just an idea! I appreciate the videos either way.
I have a Ec-256 and I just started learning 6 months ago. I know it is versatile in terms of genres, it can play lots of different types of music, do you think EC-1000 sounds like it? Or it is more likely to fit to Metal, because of the EMG’s?
What makes you say it has cheap electronics? You can buy cts pots and gibson pickups for half the price of fishmans. Is it the feel of the pots or switch?
A lot of people make it their full time job to bash Gibson, and claiming they had standards (or even lp customs) but sold them for some $500-$1000 import (instead of saying for an "ESP" after claiming they sold a standard). I think they maybe owned Chibson. While some Gibsons of course have problems look at how Gibson sells an absurd amount of guitars, and all companies have a certain rate of return that is absolutely unavoidable. People get way too whiny if their $2500 standard doesn't have a perfect top match, or absolutely flawless nitro finish etc (somewhat understandable on top match sinces it's transparent), but people claiming they are shit are so lame are absolutely full of it. This review was honest. Appreciate the upload man. Definitely an audible difference to me between "esp standard" and "ltd eclipse" in clips with passives through tube amps that I've heard (never heard a shootout in person), and unless it's a full thick ESP the Gibson will have more chunk and girth to the tone, along with sustain imho based on clips. But i always love coming to these videos to read people claiming they've owned 100 LP standards/customs and they were all trash so they sold them for an imitation from somewhere etc. HAHA You remember that when you look over at your LP standard burst, man! People LUST for your girl so much, they gossip about her! LOL
Awesome video! How does the EC-1000 hold a tune? I currently have an older LTD H-202, and it doesnt hold tune very good and the intonation is out of whack. How is this guitar in this department? Thanks!!
Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy will be the one to compare to your EC-1000. The Fishman pickups in the Prophecy lineup are voiced better than the standard Fishman moderns IMO. Prophecy also has a modified contour around the neck joint. I personally prefer the quality of the Korean-made EC-1000s from ESP, but the new pickups in the Epiphone Prophecy guitars might hit the spot. The main problem with Fender and Gibson are the neck joints/contours. Fender also needs to update their neck joint contour for more of their lineup than just the Ultras.
I’ve got LP’s and PRS’s and their comparable models play similar but the LTD just feels different. I find it harder to adjust to like the fret board is either not as wide or the strings are closer together. I have to concentrate more to play accurate and I find it annoying
Great video. I owned a LP Studio Faded, and it just did not jive with me. Having previously owned a LP Standard as well, I felt like the Studio Faded didn't sound like a LP should. Maybe it was the ultra-modern weight relief? It just sounded thin to me, and no where near the punch & sustain of a Standard. Also was not a fan of the 590 pickups mine came with. They sounded muddy, really only suitable for "dad rock" (whereas my Standard had no problem pulling off convincing metal tones). If that was the "bad" here's the "ugly"... the frets were super sharp on my Studio Faded! I mean it's great they pleck the frets or whatever, but after lengthy sessions the side of my index finger would feel raw because of the sharp frets. Not cool on a USA made instrument. I'm very interested in the EC-1000 or maybe an EC-ii. Looking specifically for a SD version as I'm not an active PU guy. This video was very helpful, but unfortunately if the EC-1000 can't deliver the sustain and character that your Studio Faded is delivering, I may need to keep searching.
Interesting my 490’s sound great for chunky death/doom riffs in b flat standard. The muddiness sounds good to me. My fret ends were sharp too. I ended up putting black winter pickups in the ec and it sounded awesome. I had to downsize before moving and sold it, but recently got another ec with a Floyd rose and single black winter, and it slays
Hi there, great Clip, keep doing it YOUR way. Too many Guitar Professors on channels! ESP LTD EC 1000 is THE "Metal Les Paul"! Why spend so much money on the GIBSON brand with a doubtful fame (especially the past decade) when you can have a master attack ready one like the EC 1000? Sustain is not too needed in the Hardrock and Metal riffing. If it gets slow blues wise it sure is a lack of sustain BUT thats not happening in my world lol.
I dig it. Appreciate your comparison. I happen to like ESP LTD over Gibson, as the price of a Gibson is so ridiculous. Not only is the LTD price better, their guitars themselves just seem a better quality. Just my opinion of course!
It's not an opinion. Just because a guitar has wood crafted from wood that came from the wood gods themselves doesn't make a guitar a good guitar. Just a pretty one.
big time agree "its a good skill to have to solder" and electric guitars are a good place to learn because the circuitry is pretty much as simple as it gets
Have you tried flatwound strings on an lp yet? I have tried all types of strings on my lps. They have ended up all with flatwounds, because they sound right to me. If you're interested in something different look at ghs precision flats, or Dr Thomastik Jazz swing. The 11's have wound g strings. I don't recommend dr legend, they feel kinda rough, or d'addario chromes as I have had the ball ends pop out. You might like them.
Im gonna go with the gibson on tone, while playability, comfort goes to the other one. Just like any gibson vs blank shootout- gibson kind of falls short on ergonomics, and they're hit or miss on other factors. Personally, I think gibson tone is almost worth all it's other shortcomings.
Thank you! Yeah they should do that and add a scarf joint on the modern ones. I definitely want the original ones as close to late 50’s spec as possible
Hey man I dig the energy in your vids look forward to more videos keep it up brother
Right on, thanks John

Wow you must have gotten a real pos Lester. My lp standard is amazing. Studio sounds and plays great (despite ancient design), but I agree the fit and finish is not as good as the Ltd, neither are the specs
Playability for the price it’s LTD. but the Gibson SG standard kills the LTD viper deluxe. I have both. The Gibson feels far superior imo.
I only had one Gibson it was the studio LP, it sounded great but way too expensive, so I sold it then bought a Fender Strat and an ESP Eclipse-II.
LoL
Get that Viper and let me know!! Keep on Rocking bro
Will you compare the E-II Eclipse
vs the EC-1000?
PLS!
Thanks bru!
One thing in the sound demo would be to get some VST plugins, it will make the sound quality amazing tbh!
Yeah man... gotta go for the Gibson for sure!
Nice job! I’m on the fence and this vid helps!
The next step is plays as many of both of them as you can until you find one you fall in love with.
@@jed_shred_guitars ec1000 evertune
is shipping my way :)
Good vid man i thought the influence pups would of been alot brighter?
If your new to home recording and dont wanna record from that pratice amp check out amp sims/ guitar IRs and impulses
That first minute made me sub
That studio has some sweet flame going on
Nice vdo man...
Can u suggest which will be the best electric guitar for value under $1000.
The neck and body are definitely thinner on the esp, and it has better upper fret access. Once properly setup that both play great.
ESP is a custom guitar brand if you want the finish to be faded just make them built it you... They build my guitar just as i wanted it to be but it costs...
I think that was a perfect statement. The experience is different.
Love the vid bro keep it real /,,/
That eclipse looks sick af
I have the same issue reaching the high registers on my Epi Les Paul Black Beauty vs the ESP LTD 401. I like the guitars equally, and I realize that each are unique sonically, but the ergonomics are better on the ESP LTD than the mahogany bodied, standard configured LPs from Epi and Gibson.
Like your playing. Sounds like old Deftones. Def want to get an ESP now
I just got a EC 1000. I LOVE IT!
You probably won't need to file. Just a little getting used to.
The finish on the gibson is beautiful.
Usually all beginner youtubers are really shy and awkward. But you're strangely confident . Will be sticking around.
It’s all that time as an adult film star man lol jk I had another channel (not guitar related though)
@@jed_shred_guitars What's it called?
Great job, video ideas: how to-s on tech'ing your guitars, changing parts for the beginner.
My matte black from Indo has no quality issues. Just love these.
@@mattnelson8325 Glad to hear that ESP/LTD is doing what they need to do to ensure the quality stays the same!
Just got a ltd ec-10 (the cheapest of the ec series) with malagoli pickups, and holy shit, it's just perfect for modern metal
I totally love my EC-1000.
@Blaine Jalen instablaster :)
@Xzavier Louis Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Xzavier Louis it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account!
@Blaine Jalen glad I could help :)
seems legit im liking the fluence pups
My favourite guitar is the Ltd ec-1000 Metal because it's for metal and sounds great.
I like that you played the same riff/s. Maybe throw in the cleanest tone demo with basic open chords? Then metal up the tones to your preferences how you prefer them. Just an idea! I appreciate the videos either way.
Thanks Colin!
Weird question but is the ec1000 wider from the front than the les paul, I like guitars to not look small on me.
I have a Ec-256 and I just started learning 6 months ago. I know it is versatile in terms of genres, it can play lots of different types of music, do you think EC-1000 sounds like it? Or it is more likely to fit to Metal, because of the EMG’s?
The EC1000 sounds are much better all the way around
It’s all about the pickups. Emg and fluence modern pickups are ver particular
Good Job
would've been nice to see you play the guitars during the last part, would've made it better ;)
What makes you say it has cheap electronics? You can buy cts pots and gibson pickups for half the price of fishmans. Is it the feel of the pots or switch?
It's always going to come down to personal choice.
Thanks!!
Great. I had a pro setup done for $99. Always worth the extra money and you can have your own favorite strings installed. It is awesome.
@@mattnelson8325 Thanks man! I ended up buying the guitar. Love it. Didnt have it set up, but I need to.
Is the second riff Godsmack by AIC? because it sounds like it.
Keep up the good work. Great presentation style. Enjoyed it. Rock On!
That’s an awesome looking Les Paul Studio. I generally think the lower-end Les Paul models look like cheaply made crap, but not that one.
D Johnson I have not yet, but I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for the info on the brands. Is the tension any different? I normal play 9-48 hybrid slinkies
Im gonna go with the gibson on tone, while playability, comfort goes to the other one. Just like any gibson vs blank shootout- gibson kind of falls short on ergonomics, and they're hit or miss on other factors. Personally, I think gibson tone is almost worth all it's other shortcomings.
Agreed
Whats that last Gibson you played with the most sustain ?
You're doing fine.
Dude great content. Love you esp. I just wish Gibson would change the angle of the head stock to 14 degrees from 17.
Thank you! Yeah they should do that and add a scarf joint on the modern ones. I definitely want the original ones as close to late 50’s spec as possible
