I took my Squier Afinity and put Fender deluxe pickups, new fender made electronics, and fender hardware. I’d take it over any other strat out there, it plays and sounds awesome!
@@HetalPatel-kw3yk single coil pups have one coil and in general hum more than double coil humbucker (hum cancelling). Humbuckers in general have a fatter thicker tone...
I started playing a week ago and I had an old electric guitar from when rocksmith original came out. I was maybe 8 or 9 when I got it and after a week it gave out on me. So I went to GC today and picked one of these bad boys up and I love it. I was able to play power chords and they didn’t sound terrible 😂 I’m happy so far can’t wait to see how i progress
60 year pro player here. Loved this video. I spent a whopping $190 shipped on a brand new (listed as mint) Lake Placid Blue Affinity and I love it! Even the pickups! Something about these pickups - they don't have that extreme treble and thinness that I don't like in a Strat pickup. I don't personally care for those Knopfler/Cray type tones. The only gripes are: the neck needed a final sanding which took a few minutes with 1500 grit sandpaper. Easy-peasy. Very little if any setup needed. The only other issue is pulling up on the trem, the block immediately bangs against wood, so I'll likely do a bit of routing for a little more clearance. I'm super happy - I've spent a lot more on a ONE PEDAL! Just for reference I had a Am. Performer that was way less quality. One of the wires was only soldered on ONE STRAND of wire, amongst other issues. Even had serious QC issues with a Suhr. Go figure.
I've been playing 43 years and have owned many guitars. This squire is my 3rd strat. Mine is M.I.C . its a flame top it looks( specs wise) and sounds like the guitar in the demo and am thrilled with it.
Great video! I bought a Squier Affinity Stratocaster just so I'd have one with 3 single coil pickups to play around with and I really like it. It was great right out of the box. I also like the way the ceramic pickups sound.
This was such a helpful video! I have been wanting to learn to play since I was little. Now I'm an old dude getting my first guitar, and this really helped me finalize the decision! Thanks!
I got this guitar brand new for free from trading in a yucky Fender Telecaster (the trussrod was shot and the nut was poorly cut) along with $50. This guitar was absolutely the greatest guitar I’ve ever played, the sound is amazing! And the neck is absolutely smooth! The tuning stability is awesome! Cant believe that I just learned here that they’re basically the same as a fender Strat just an extra few hundred bucks more minus a few minor differences! I love this guitar!
As a brand new beginner who’s never picked up a guitar before, do you think this would be a great first guitar or would the squire affinity telecaster be a better idea?
Great review , Thank you. I just bought one in black color and it is everything and more you said. Thank you for the video reviews and your good advice. ~~ Also, about 90% of all Fender guitar parts also fit into the Squier Affinity Strat, which is great for alot of good upgrades and guitar mods ! - I put in a original Fender Tex-Mex pre-wired custom-pickup pickguard and it fits in with no problem and now this guitar sounds even better. Now I have a great Stratocaster guitar and I did not have to pay 2,000+ dollars for a custom fender !!
Not better. Just different. Singles are brighter sounding and typically less loud but have a very specific type of sound. The downside is that they hum with overdrive on. The doubles are known as humbuckers and they do exactly that. The don’t hum and because there are two sets of magnets, they typically are louder and have higher output and a thicker tone. Neither is better. Just preference
Replace pickups, replace the tuners, replace the bridge, get the frets properly dressed -- and, in the end, you still finish with a Squier for which you paid more than for a proper Fender strat (player s) not even to talk about the Squier CV's which, BTW are more than a decent guitars not only for the amateur or bedroom players.
What is the style of pickup cavity routing under the squier pickguard? is it just SSS rout or universal or something else? I'm trying to put together something with an angled humbucker bridge pickup but want to avoid doing a full build from the ground up if possible as I have no woodworking tools or experience.
I got an Affinity the first year of manufacture, 1997. It's quite different than what Affinitys eventually became. Full sized body, probably alder. Small headstock. 12 inch fretboard radius. Dimensions more akin to an MIM. I've parted out the tuners, nut, all pickups and electronics entire vibrato and bridge system and input jack and pickguard, so I guess it's no longer an Affinty...but it's mine. Oh yeah, it was made in China.
You may have just sold me on buying one damnit. I had one back in the late 90s that I don't play anymore because Mark Tremonti decided to scribble and write all over the front of it in silver in 2003.
would you approve of me getting this and turning it to a left handed guitar because i am a lefty and i cant find any good left handed strats for the same price
They definitely have this model in a lefty. So I’d recommend looking at that before you do that. Flipping the guitar leads to a few harder things sometimes.
It’d be cool if they made an ‘affinity plus’, like the player plus. Instead of going classic vibe, it’s a $400-500 range with a 2 point trem, slightly better pickups (overwounds would be epic) and locking tuners.
towels.... 🤣 all jokes aside, i never had the problem with sweaty hands but i have friends that do and they use coated strings a lot of time so they dont have to change them as frequently. thats my only advice
As a person who's owned genuine Fender high tier guitars and Squier I can honestly say the difference is minimal.. The necks are slightly different and the electronics are different (not worse, just different) the Squier usually weighs less, but in terms of a massive difference in tone and playing experience there's very little.. Alder is a rather bland tone wood so it's on par with literally anything else, Leo used it because it was cheap, stable and easily found it had absolutely nothing to do with tone it was 100% a profit situation.. I'd tell anyone don't waste the money on a Fender go get you a used Squier and call it a day.. If we wanted to go further, I'd tell you don't even buy an American Fender but go get a Tokai because they're just better in every single way... Contrary to popular beliefs, American guitars aren't the king and once you start playing Japanese guitars you'll feel like you have been lied to for your entire life...
QUE MEJOR QUE INICIAR CON SRV TE FELICITO JAJAJA PORQUE NO TENGO DINERO PARA UNA FENDER JAJAAJA PERO SI PARA UNA SQUIER AUNQUE TENGO UNA JACKSON Y ME TOCO UNOS BLUES ERIC CLAPTON NECESITO UNA STRATOCASTER PARA SENTIR SUPUESTAMENTE QUE TENGO UNA STRATOCASTER HAHAHAH Y TOCAR UN BLUES JAJAJAJJA
For God's sake slow down your talking a bit, it sounded like you were in a panic, just take a breath between sentences, it was just one monotone gabble, you spoke a thousand words and said nothing.
@jimmyfranklin I actually Iiked your video and didn't notice any of what that person said. I particularly liked short introduction and getting right to playing and showing the sound difference and most importantly way shorter that most videos doing the same thing. Keep it up!
I'm 69 years old and I hope I learn before I die.
You Will! Practice and Have Fun! It's never too late!
Never too late to start playing! Have fun my man, nothing more rewarding than nailing that song you’ve been practicing!
You will
Have fun my friend!
Just have fun the more you practice the more fun you'll have

Bro actually gave an accurate sound test thank you bro

I got one not long ago ,they are nice guitars ,I had a red affinitie that got stolen two and a half years , one of the best guitars I ever owned.
I would buy one just because this one looks so cool.

I play a squier tele i used to play a fender american but i like ther squier better and the finish on the neck is way nicer and less shiny crap on it

Great video👌🏼
Thank you so much! 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Where do you buy that guitar all white
What size trem bars do these use? An USA trem bar doesn’t fit.
I remember his motorcycle and guitar adventure.

For a cheap guitar it sounds great ❤
I can’t decide what to get now. Either the squire strat or tele idk what’s better
They're so affordable just get both!!
It looks like the squire body and the fender pickgaurd are off white, then the squire pick gaurd and fender body are white.
Is that the olympic white?
Should I get this instead of Sonic? Thanksss
I personally like this WAY over the sonic.
Yes
I ordered the sonic. What’s really the difference between? And like how good or bad is it???
I actually like the sound of (good quality) ceramic single-coils, & wouldn't be changing these ones out.
Heck I love mine and I'm not even that good
Nice!! How long you been playin??
keep in mind that the loaded pickguards are about $200-$500

I agree. Japanase quality control far superior.
I agree. Japanese quality control far more superior.
I just bought one and FWIW it says made in China and not Indonesia. Still like it though.
I would have more Squiers if they didn't have the 70's headsock on far too many models. I can't stand it.
There's the super sonic model line
I just played one in a guitar store and it was made in China.
That’s strange. This one is Indonesia
Most the Indonesia stuff is more expensive than the China stuff. If it was 200 even its most likely china. If it's 249 it's most likely Indonesia.
hey this is Kira from alice strings, wo love your content and we would like to know that are you interested in our products?
