Because of this excellent video, I purchased an IMax charger, and am going to attempt to revive my 18V NiCad batteries for a drill and Sawzall for which batteries are no longer available.
Yess! Finally someone with actual knowledge about to do the NiCd to lithium conversion. I have a cordless 18V drill sitting on shelf with no battery. Can't wait see how to do it properly :)
Excellent video content! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Rozardner Powerful Battery Reality (google it)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for learning how to recondition an old battery minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin at last got cool success with it.
Lovely Video! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would love your thoughts. Have you thought about - Lammywalness Trendy Trade Guide (search on google)? After replacing one cell that seems to be damaged, i put 5 cycles and the charge was not more than 220mah in all cycles , the discharge was zero in all the cycles. The pack is a 9.6V Ryoby 1200mah..........is not taking charge like in your video...do you think i need to get a new drill? Thanks
Great video. I have a mini emax i do not have function of auto voltage. I want to charge a 9.6v nominal drill nicd pac 1200mAh. What should i use if i do not have the auto function? If i use the cycle function what should the max voltage be before it switches to discharge? In you video you have a fully charged pack a 12.7V ....is this normal for NIcad or it is too much.? Thanks
Thanks, it seems to be recover some capacity on mine. Hope it will last long enough to get some quality 18650 + orotection circuit to mod it to lithium
Im really late to this video but im trying this out at the minute and wanted some advice Im not sure what ive done wrong but my 9.6v battery charged to 11.7v before i stopped the program.
Hi guys, i have to 12V batteries that are not dead but are very low power. I want to revive them. I don't have any other battery. How can i achieve the first step (crystals thing) ?
Hi. Can you help me out with how to solve charge retention in a NiCd battery pack (like a PVC stick pack) which is made of 3 nos of 1.2V, 2200mAh batteries of size 1/2D in series thereby creating 3.6V. This battery pack is used in a rechargeable flashlight. I can share a picture but can't see a picture upload facility in this comment section. Would appreciate your response ASAP.
i restored mine from an old screwdriver , 12v NiCa , zapped with 20v from an old laptop charger.. now seems waked up.. and hold some power in it . Thanks!
you can also use a AC welder across the terminals to kill the whiskers thats all you are doing, scratch the terminal with the welder to get a spark and that should be enough to do it if not do it again and again after 4 or 5 times it should work if not try another way unplug and plug in the charger about 20 times rapidly that also shorts the whiskers. another way is get a bigger battery and run the terminals from that to the dead battery a couple of times and the whiskers will go then charge.
Is it necessary to perform both steps if I already have the charger you showed? Also, I presume the upper limit of the charger is 15 cells (12V) when used on a NiCad battery pack. My battery packs are 13.2V.
I use my icharger 4010 duo. It can revive most batteries including car batteries with the right settings and technique. It’s always interesting to see how others go about it themselves. Lots of alternatives for the varying degrees of failure.
Okay how can i discharge the battery at 0.5 c without imax b 60? Any ideas? I have 18v drill the battery full charged at 20.5 but when i run it it will stop after few seconds with low torque amount please help!
How we can discharge the battery if we don't have imax b 60? Can i charge the battery with a charger with conection positive to positive and negative to negative and then conecte the battery to a lamp or something to discharged? How we can discharge the battery please replay
Seen a few of these it apparently happens when the battery has been left to go totally flat, charger can't do the job so adding a bit of charge in this unconventional way first will let the charger take over from there
This works only for few cycles maybe. If crystals are formed the seperator is demaged between cathode and anode and it is impossible to revive. Only way to revive is replace cells.
I disagree I’ve been reviving one of my old drill batteries using a welder for over 30 years now and usually last 1-2 years before I have to zap it again.
can you use ion lithium batteries in the older power tools that just use the regular nicads and I suspect you need a new charger as well? Hard to do if your battery case only fits a charger for the regular nicad. I suppose you would ned to charge with a different mean such as an alligator clip to the tool.
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to uncover how to recondition old batteries at home try t.co/uUSuy6Yk5g ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.
well you fucked it. This procedure works with NiCd Batteries, not with Lithium-Ion. Pls pay attention and do your research. Li-Ion Batteries can explode when you short them... *facepalm*
+19janiboy96 Even if you get a weaker cell some 18650 do have somekind of protection build in so in a lot of cases you would be safe. But you do have to watch out because some can explode and possibly damage something
+Rocco Croce here's one on ebay... www.ebay.ca/itm/iMAX-B6-Lipo-NiMh-Li-ion-Ni-Cd-RC-Battery-Balance-Digital-Charger-Discharger-CAF/331722789228?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140620091118%26meid%3D5b30744e01bd49fbbcf67de55d98518c%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D131534157972
+TheJohn8765 nice thanks. I found a handful for about $15. I couldn't make out what the charger looked like...then I realized the quality wasn't in HD. Score :)
Rocco Croce Yah, I just ordered one myself. They look like nice little units and the price is crazy for what you get. I love ebay. For all the (well founded) criticisms the Chinese get on quality, they also are extremely clever at designing things and selling them at a good price.
+TheJohn8765 yes sir I couldn't agree with you more. I absolutely love all this cheap and sometimes dangerous stuff. Really get a kick out of it. If you're conscientious, you can really get a lot of excellent use of the some of these products. Be sure to check out AliExpress if you only want to see items from China and nothing else :p I think I might order one as well. I really like the discharge feature. I have a couple charges but none of them have a good discharge feature or work with both lithium and nickel cadmium.
+Rocco Croce The discharge cycling feature is quite helpful for NiMH batteries-- they typically don't achieve their full potential until they've been cycled 5 or so times. You can do it yourself, but it's extremely tedious. I do make sure I take apart all my ebay purchases to check for shoddy assembly or design-- nearly all are perfectly fine, but you do get the occasional *wtf!* part. Still, it's worth it for paying 1/2 or 1/3 what I'd pay in Canada for the same stuff.

just buy a new multispeed drill , battery and charger for 20 bucks ???? and no , it does not work for nny "kinds" of batteries , what your doing is dangerous , and you did not even bother to warn people about it. . . .. .

Don't Lithium ion batteries catch on fire a lot? (electric cars etc)
Thanks, it seems to be recover some capacity on mine. Hope it will last long enough to get some quality 18650 + orotection circuit to mod it to lithium
it worked great in the end =D the capacity is on the small side but it is more than enough for ocassional work (B&D EPC96 with B96 pack).

Why will you use 18650 cells when you could use a Lipo brick type battery? Is it just because they will fit easier in the existing battery pack?
One question, is it possible to revive batteries with just that charger? Or is it necessary to use the first method to destroy cristals?
you can also use a AC welder across the terminals to kill the whiskers thats all you are doing, scratch the terminal with the welder to get a spark and that should be enough to do it if not do it again and again after 4 or 5 times it should work if not try another way unplug and plug in the charger about 20 times rapidly that also shorts the whiskers. another way is get a bigger battery and run the terminals from that to the dead battery a couple of times and the whiskers will go then charge.
Are you talking about the "fluff" that likes to form on the top of nicd's?
yes@@qwertykeyboard5901
This is a very well made and useful video, thanks! I will use this to revive my 24V unit.
Is it necessary to perform both steps if I already have the charger you showed? Also, I presume the upper limit of the charger is 15 cells (12V) when used on a NiCad battery pack. My battery packs are 13.2V.
Hello, nice video. Will this charger work with skil 18 volt niCad? Thanks

what if all the batteries are dead. Can you use anything else
Great! Will try this with our 4/5 year old 9.6v bosch drill. Currently after charge it has low power and feels empty charge
could i do this with linked 9v batteries? or a ac to dc converter wall plug?
Okay how can i discharge the battery at 0.5 c without imax b 60? Any ideas? I have 18v drill the battery full charged at 20.5 but when i run it it will stop after few seconds with low torque amount please help!
You can not be repair in the same way the old batteries. In most cases the battery is worn out and has a high internal resistance.
How we can discharge the battery if we don't have imax b 60? Can i charge the battery with a charger with conection positive to positive and negative to negative and then conecte the battery to a lamp or something to discharged? How we can discharge the battery please replay
Could you do the zapping of the crystals by using a bench power supply instead of using the batteries?
Yes. You can even use your car battery, though it's not recommended
Nice! I have a makita at home that has these batteries and is slowly loosing becoming unusable. Thanks for this, am going to give it a try!

great video and cool tips .. where can i buy 18650 cells from
@We Love Knowledge Nice spam you moron
Converting to lithium batteries, makes nicad charger useless, doesn't it?
Good vídeo. One question can you convert NiCd batery into litium batery?thanx
+Miguel Angel Sánchez it's possible to.do that with some modifications. I'll try to show all procedure and what is needed in upcoming video.

So to fix the battery, I'd have to buy stuff that would cost more than a new battery?
I am confused. What powers the lipo balance charger? Sorry slow here.
+Jamie Bush regular PC power supply. You can use any other 12v power supply.
I have a few, thank you.

Good tips. I am waiting for conversion to Li-ion.
working on the same project, i have a bunch of dead Nicd batteries of different cordless drills, looking forward to your conversion video.
I tried this with one of my hardly used 5.0ah hitachi batteries, liion battery and the imax battery just says connection break...
well you fucked it. This procedure works with NiCd Batteries, not with Lithium-Ion. Pls pay attention and do your research. Li-Ion Batteries can explode when you short them... *facepalm*
You are a top man. Thanks!
I didn't get anything resembling the answer
any way to revive li ions?
there is a guy on youtube that fixes li-ions quickly and easily. look up "reviving lithium ion batteries from deep sleep". Enjoy.
You're so helpful! I'll try it asap ! thx
When converting the battery to lithium ion you should watch out for the maximum current draw the cell can handle
+19janiboy96 Even if you get a weaker cell some 18650 do have somekind of protection build in so in a lot of cases you would be safe. But you do have to watch out because some can explode and possibly damage something
+19janiboy96 yes, I know that and all that info will be in coversion to litium battery.
thank you.

it works for me.👍
That was pretty dag gone smart!!!
Zapping crystals eh? lol with such knowledge there's no need to buy anything new ever again! ;)
@4:50?
Is the battery is a nickel-cadmium??..anyone plsss???
Yes it is. Both the title says so, as well in video he me mentions it. To clarify NiCd means Nickel Cadmium. Ni and Cd are its Chemical symbols.
