I have just started enjoying my natural waves/curls and learning how to care for them. This was absolutely the best video I have watched thus far - I learned so much! Thank you for all of your input and breaking down the steps with some education so I can remember it! I can't wait to learn more from you and see how my curls develop across this journey! 😍
I have curly/wavy hair, my hair respons absolutely horribly to defusing, I've had multiple stylist defuse my hair and beforehand I tell them, my hair will straighten and frizz up no matter what you try. They don't believe me, and I end up with straight strands that curl near my scalp, I had a curl specialist stare in disbelief at my head 😆 I badly wish I could defuse because I have a good amount of hair, and I LOVE big volume curly styles! For the last 2 yrs though I've avoided heat altogether and my hair is so happy!!
Aww thanks Claire! I'm so grateful that you stuck with me through this 😊 it was a long one! But I had lots to share and I really hope some of my tips help xx
I watched your video last night and incorporated some of your techniques this morning when I washed my hair. I'm teleworking this week so lots of extra time in the mornings. I can see a total difference in my curls today. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for an excellent video. I'm currently using several of the same products as you. I use a different leave in and a different gel but everything else is the same. I'm thinking about trying the Giovanni leave in to see if I like it better than the SM restorative conditioner that I'm currently using. My biggest issue is that I'm transitioning to my natural gray, too, and my hair is horribly dry, so it's causing a lot of hair fall/ breakage because it's nearly impossible to get it to retain enough moisture. I've been kind of switching things up from time to time trying spray oil with leave in condtioner in it place of gel etc, but so far it's still been a battle. I may try adding in the oil along with the gel even though it won't cast as well, if at all, but this transition with curly hair has been a rough road. 😬
I cannot picture how you listen to podcasts while diffusing, so please do a video on that next! :D I would have much better hair if I didn't get so bored while diffusing lol
Omg! I am so thankful for this routine and video! You look so lovely at the beginning and end of the video. Please list your makeup products in the info section or please do an entire video on your makeup routine. The colors are just lovely on you! Thank you!
Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie also comes as curl milk, which is a lighter version for those with super fine hair. I noticed that you didn't put gel on the hair close to your scalp. Any reason for that?
Ah yes - great recommendation!! The curl milk is a brilliant alternative. I use the gel to set the frizz at the ends of my curls the most. I apply a little at the top of my hair but you're right, I tend to focus more on the ends of my hair xx
I do the same cause I hate too much gel at the roots it makes it really flat and just like feels heavy and don’t feel nice when you try and shake it out at the roots, the way I get rid of halo frizz is just flip head upside down and fluff at the roots cans for some reason it gets rid of the frizz (on dry hair) ❤️
@@annaburns5382 really? I think I need to try that again because I was putting all my products on the roots and it totally weighed it down and made it flat and just feel gunky so maybe I should try with just the gel at the roots, thanks for this I’ll try it xxx
Thank you so much! Glad to see a curly tutorial from you-I really enjoy your relaxed style of video. Instead of a pineapple or clips I have just started using a silk bonnet. It has really helped to keep the longer hair that is off my silk pillow case at night not tangle. I was getting monster knots in my hair until I realized it was longer and needed to protect the bottom of my hair😁Yea for healthy hair that grows!
Ok, I've been doing this accidentally for the last little bit! I'm do it more strategically now. Tonight will be a refresh with conditioner before bed, to do a quick refresh tmrw. Then next wash, I'll do this! My hair so not long, so clips aren't always good. The tibe/neck protector you can get at sports places is what I'm going to trial this week, instead of clips. Stretchy, so hopefully ok.. thanks Christina! Loving the mermaid curls & cute swimsuit too! 😊

I wanted the Dyson so bad too and saved up for it but when I got it in all honesty it was definitely not worth all that money in my opinion, I sent mine back and just got a normal one wit a big universal diffuser and I don’t see any difference in the outcome so don’t throw the box away 😂just try it first ❤️
Such a great informative video Christina! You are so knowledgable about all things curls! When you rinse the conditioner out of your hair, how do you get your hair to form the curl clumps? When I rinse the conditioner out of my hair upside down I just end up with a sopping wet sheet of hair as opposed to curl clumps. It's my biggest downfall as I struggle to get the clumps to form and then my curls end up quite thin and stringy. Any tips would be so appreciated. Keep up the great work both here and on the blog! x
As I apply product, the curls will separate, or you can use a tshirt to squeeze/scrunch up your curls to help them form. Once some of the water drops out, they will form into curls xx
Thank you for this fantastic video! I have a couple of questions, what is it about the Dyson hair dryer that makes it so great compared with a traditional hair dryer? Also is it ok to use protein treatments every wash or should there be some periods of time where I don’t use it to give hair a break from the protein? Not sure if it becomes less effective if used continuously. Thank you :)
Depending on what your is like and what it likes I would do a protein treatment every 2 weeks. You can also use products with protein in them instead. Just be careful you don't over do it and get protein overload. There are a lot of videos on how to balance protein vs moisture. And no idea about the Dyson that's way to much $ for me to spend on a dryer lol
Thanks Carina! The Dyson diffuser is so well designed and has no hot spots so the airflow is completely even and so it dries my hair so quickly and reduces frizz. It's the best dryer I've ever used and I'm a little obsessed 😹 but I totally get that it's $$$ so using another diffuser would be ok. But no doubts for me that the Dyson is worth it. And Christina's advice below is great - I alternate protein treatments and moisture treatments. As my hair is coloured and dry and I heat style occasionally, my hair needs the protein about once a week so it depends on your hair. Hope this helps xxx
Hi I wanted the Dyson too and saved for it but when I got it I saw no difference at all from my normal one, I honestly do not think it’s worth it at all, if anything my normal one did a better job cause the diffuser is bigger and better, I sent mine back, I tried it a few times but it just didn’t do anything different than my normal one 🙄actually I was really looking forward to trying it cause if the hype but super disappointed, if you get one don’t throw out the box 😂
Holy carp I use a purple maui treatment and cpr curling products it's a 13in 1..wash it with John Freda curl shampoo conditioner.. wanna get a diffuser it's a pain in butt air drying from side to side for volume
Thank you Christina for this video as give so much for us. I really appreciate doing and I am making but I will watch again I do hair but I am happy. I did other other way around and I also of think of baby clips or refreshing as I use CPAP with chin chip so I might with smoothie that you use and my gel as well. I will watch this again before I wash it too Thank you again too.
Thank you! And I knew I would forget something! Here's the clips - they're Scunci (sometimes called Conair) www.bigw.com.au/product/scunci-jaw-clips-comfort-4-pack-assorted/p/759914/ & in the USA bit.ly/351Gr1H xx
This is the second video I have tried in two days to link to the Leave In Conditioner and it does not work. Can you please just tell us the name of the product.
Great video! Question...whenever I use moisturizing leave ins it over moisturizes my hair and straightens my curl. Why is that? I have bleach/colored hair. I love all your videos :)
Thanks for watching! Absolutely too much moisture can weigh your hair down and protein treatments help to build the structure of your hair back. Getting the moisture/protein balance is key for curl formation xx
Hi first time seeing one of your videos, love your hair, any tips on wet frizz, as soon as I scrunch my hair i get frizz it’s so annoying. Just wondering where you get your hair products from cause I was getting from Amazon but got so many fakes 😡 which has now made me paranoid where I can trust so I’d love to know where you get yours xxx just got to the end of your video and heard you say Australia, how did I not tell? I thought you were from the uk 😂 like me so ignore that where do you get them from, beautiful result btw, how long did it take for your hair to get healthy from doing CGM? I’ve been doing it a year and now all of a sudden my hair is falling out bad like chunks, it’s half as thick as it was, I wonder if it’s the CGM but I don’t know 🤷♀️
Hi Kate! My husband is English so I think our accents are a but mixed haha! But I lived in the UK for a few years and visit often (except, you know, 2020!) Boots and Superdrug have great curl products - the Boots own brand gel & curl cream are total bargains and really good. You an also get Cantu & SheaMoisture which are excellent curl brands. There's a lot of conversation around hair loss and CGM and I think it could be a few things - washing less often means you notice more hair loss (as it's a fews days coming out together) - so normally you lose 50-100 hairs a day but with curls they get caught in the ringlets and so when you detangle you notice a big amount of hair but it's ok. You might need to clarify and use shampoo as product buildup on your scalp can contribute to (temporary) hair loss. And 2020 has been A LOT so many people are experiencing stress-related hair loss this year so it could just be a coincidence. All of these hair loss reasons are temporary and reversible so don't worry. Focus on giving yourself regular gentle head massages (I've got a video on them) and maybe try clarifying your hair to see how that goes. Good luck! Christina xx
@@Hairromance thanks for all that, yeah I do use boots and Superdrug but sometimes I wanna try nice new things that you see on RUclips 😅 I know what you mean about washing it I do see loads of hairs but I expected that, it’s not seeing how much hair I’m losing it’s actually seeing missing patches on my head and my sister plays with my hair to find a new style and she said wow your hair feels like half the amount than usual, I used to moan cause it was too thick to do anything with but now I’m like ohhh bring it back 😩 I do clarify enough, the only thing I thought was the way I do it is I wash at night and put on the products then poop over night so all my hair is on top of my head all night so could the products from my hair be sinking into my scalp and clogging it? I really don’t wanna go back to what I used to use before I knew about the CGM now I know how bad it is for your hair but I just don’t know how to get my hair back to normal, I heard about Nioxin have you tried it? Also still not sure what Olaplex is but I hear it everywhere do you think it would help? Your husband’s accent has definitely rubbed off on you, I had no idea you were from Australia 😂 thank you so much for your advice, your lovely answering all the comments it’s very rare ❤️
@@katebowes1 happy to help answer any questions or comments ❤️ But if you're noticing bald patches, I'd recommend seeing your doctor as it could be something else. Nioxin is great and does work to help regrow hair but it's important to find out why you're losing patches of hair. Not everything that isn't CGM is bad for your hair, I don't follow a strict method for my hair so IMO it's ok to use other products (including shampoo) Take care and do go for a checkup to see if there's an underlying cause for your hair loss xx
Definitely going to try this! Whenever I apply products upside down I get great clumps but then as soon as I flip upright, the back of my hair is a crazy birds nest. How do you avoid this? It looks like you didn't flip upright until after diffusing x
Thanks Rachel! Yes I know exactly what you mean which is why I try to diffuse more before I flip my hair over. I focus on diffusing the roots and then once I've flipped over, I diffuse from the ends up It helps to keep the clumps and reduces the birds nest at the back 😹 xx
I've been doing the curly girl method very loosely for almost two years and I've noticed my hair is thinner and I've grown it out. I scrunch like crazy when I apply products and I've just recently noticed that I'm actually pulling on my hair while I scrunch and have been since I started two years ago ( I thought I was supposed to). Is it possible the thinning is due to the overly aggressive scrunching? Also does Taft mega hold really hold the hair in it's curl?
How can I maintain the volume of my hair whilst wearing a cycling helmet? Also, how can I combat cowlicks at there back of my head where my hair grown pattern starts?
Hi Daniela! I have a great tip for avoiding flat hat hair which can also work for helmets where I flip my hair over. You can see it in this video before the hairstyle - ruclips.net/video/LmE2esU11C4/видео.html And for that back part / cowlick - I show how I backcomb and use hair powder to stop the part appearing in this video on heatless curls - ruclips.net/video/YeA0TYL6fTs/видео.html Hope this helps! xx

If you don't have a pasta strainer or a defuser, then I unno 😆
Great video, thank you!
thanks so much xx
This was really helpful, thank you
thanks so much for watching! xx
This was very helpful!
Lovely hair 😍
@@Hairromance thanks so much for your reply very useful info! 🙏
You are so welcome Lisa! Thanks for always being so supportive of me! 💕 xx
What setting do you use on your blow dryer?
I use low speed - medium heat on my Supersonic hairdryer xx
thank you! this is so helpful! do you have a link for the clips?
Thank you! And I knew I would forget something!
Here's the clips - they're Scunci (sometimes called Conair) www.bigw.com.au/product/scunci-jaw-clips-comfort-4-pack-assorted/p/759914/ & in the USA bit.ly/351Gr1H xx
@@Hairromance thank you!!
You may need some protein.
Thanks for watching! Absolutely too much moisture can weigh your hair down and protein treatments help to build the structure of your hair back. Getting the moisture/protein balance is key for curl formation xx
Do you have high porosity hair?
But I lived in the UK for a few years and visit often (except, you know, 2020!)
Boots and Superdrug have great curl products - the Boots own brand gel & curl cream are total bargains and really good.
@@katebowes1 happy to help answer any questions or comments ❤️
But if you're noticing bald patches, I'd recommend seeing your doctor as it could be something else. Nioxin is great and does work to help regrow hair but it's important to find out why you're losing patches of hair. Not everything that isn't CGM is bad for your hair, I don't follow a strict method for my hair so IMO it's ok to use other products (including shampoo)
Take care and do go for a checkup to see if there's an underlying cause for your hair loss xx
Definitely going to try this! Whenever I apply products upside down I get great clumps but then as soon as I flip upright, the back of my hair is a crazy birds nest. How do you avoid this? It looks like you didn't flip upright until after diffusing x
me too! I get a part in the back of my hair that really bugs me if I bend upside down to diffuse.
Thank you
thank you for watching! xx
Sorry a little bit confused here. Do you wash your hair in the morning again? Or are you simply scrunching dry hair with the t-shirt?
I just use a dry tshirt in the morning to scrunch out the gel from my hair 💛
beautiful!!! 😍😍😍
Yes! After sleeping on my hair my cowlick pops out and I get a really stubborn part going down the back of my head!
Hi Daniela! I have a great tip for avoiding flat hat hair which can also work for helmets where I flip my hair over. You can see it in this video before the hairstyle - ruclips.net/video/LmE2esU11C4/видео.html
And for that back part / cowlick - I show how I backcomb and use hair powder to stop the part appearing in this video on heatless curls - ruclips.net/video/YeA0TYL6fTs/видео.html
Hope this helps! xx
@@Hairromance Awesome! Thank you
I have a bad back so have to hang over the bottom board of my bed so it supports me 🤣xx
My hair falls like yours when wet , but can’t seem to create a cast , then dries like rats tails xx
