Getting down to the grunt of it all. It takes a lot to thoroughly do the independent route. Trademarking is so important especially with the growth of your brand as an artist.
You should do an in-depth vid on BMI ASCAP SESAC lso containing elements of Tunecore, CD Baby etc. This would kill a lot of these questions ppl are asking in the comments and be extremely helpful.
with the age of the internet, people need to research every type of record or publishing agreement contract and study it hard before they are approach with any type of record deal proposal. Most lawyers that people hired are usually secretly working behind the scenes for the labels. Labels have more money than unknown unsigned artist. The music and entertainment business is deep and most people are not fully aware of what they getting themselves into
Is there a tutorial or a blog where there's like a checklist of all the 'paperwork' things that are loosely adressed here? Like a 'how to' checklist? So we know what there's to do?
How do I go about making sure I have complete ownership of my music, and do I need to do it if my music is just mixtapes? Or do I need to if I release my music on Soundcloud?
Hey BrandMan so I have a mixtape releasing this month its my first mixtape. I'm pretty positive that it is going to take me somewhere because I've put so much into. But do I need split sheets at all for a mixtape or are they just for studio albums?
Tricky. You can get away without using them if its 100% free. However it leaves you vulnerable if someone wants to steal you stuff ater. Also leave you vulnerable to future lawsuits if the record pops off.
If you not signed and a label likes you, can they just mess with you. And trademark stuff that you own, I assume yes if you have not trademarked your stuff
Akilah hit it on the head. Its a document that writers and producers and everyone involved make to show who did what and who owns what part of a finished song. I talk about it on my channel and posted them on my site.
I produce my own music entirely but I have a manager so all we would need to do is State who owns a percentage of what on a sheet of paper and get it certified by the court or who?
Everything is automatically copy-written once recorded or written fam . People lost their names because they signed them over as a part of their original record deal . You trademark your logo so no one can get paid off your marketed success . Otherwise none of this is needed at the stage of people who watch your videos ... grrrrr .
It’s “automatically” copywrited but it’s not registered and someone else can register and copywriter your content in their name then they own they own the writes to your content and can shut you down but that’s just rhetorical what’s the chances of that happening
Javyn Boo so I just got done recording my mixtape in FL Studio I make my own beats and I Am the Artist so how can somebody take it from me if I upload it?
Your record is copy written when you record it.This is true. However this common law copyright doesn't give you full protection. There are a list of benefits to actually doing the paperwork like: statutory fees for people that steal it, easier litigation in court (which could save a lot of cash), easier processing on syncs and other licensing opportunities, rights to regain rights on sold rights, and the list goes on. A lot of people do lose their rights in their record deals, management deals, publishing deals, song deals, productions deals, and all sorts of other deals split sheets that they may sign along the way. I agree that all of this is not needed immediately. But it's needed as soon as you can afford it. The professionals do this immediately for a reason. Most lawsuits exist because people miss steps in paperwork That's just facts. All of the emotions and games and BS that occurs in the game all go back to the paperwork. Get it right and you won't get wronged.

Trademarks are based on who has proof of first use date, not registration date
DJ CoolHand there are trolls on the internet that loves to trademark and sue frivolously.

For anyone to file a trademark they have to show proof of commerce first
Great video!!!
Power of attorney what he was looking for......
Make an Ebook!!
Thanks for the video! Does the trademarking of name hold true for legal names ? Or only for artists pseudonyms and stage names?
Could you do a video going over the things that he said artists should do?
How do I go about making sure I have complete ownership of my music, and do I need to do it if my music is just mixtapes? Or do I need to if I release my music on Soundcloud?
Splits, copyrights, register, in that order. That secures ownership and locks it tight.
Phase Vi where would you do all those things?
'Qwoin Music google it
thanks
I’m new to the Chanel big fan on the content if you do a vid on those incidentals you should take care of
Crazy how much game is in this comment section!!!
when you frame your videos, eliminate the space above your head, make sure your hands are visible in the shot because people talk with their hands.
dang it i came too late.
Aye man, so if a label approaches you asking you to send a demo, is paying for that demo submission worth it? Or submitting any demo for that matter
Brandman SeanTaylor alrighty, thanks for the help man I appreciate it a lot

I'm barley producing and I just watched 10 of your videos and I'm surprised on how selfish people can be
If you not signed and a label likes you, can they just mess with you. And trademark stuff that you own, I assume yes if you have not trademarked your stuff
everything he said ive done
20k!!!!!
Im safe though ..
What does he mean be split sheets?
kijuan Sskater split sheets is a contract the artist is producer does for publishing purposes.
Akilah hit it on the head. Its a document that writers and producers and everyone involved make to show who did what and who owns what part of a finished song. I talk about it on my channel and posted them on my site.

kijuan Sskater this may help you out also www.songsplits.com
So this isn’t shady records strategies
What are PRO’s
Performance RIghts Organizations. Companies like ASCAP, BMI, SESAC
Is there people who will do all this work for an artist , for a fee
Yes. There are publishers, admins and consultants. I know a few whenever your trying to swing at that. My team does some of it as well.
#SPACE DOLPHIN music on my page check your gram
