Very informative about the crossbar lock mechanism. I returned mine because I didn't like the feel of the crossbar lock. It felt sharp to me when pulling it back on it. I was really torn about returning it. I liked it otherwise.
Need more reviews like this. Learned more about knife mechanics from this one video than many others combined 👍🏼. Hope more manufacturers send you stuff to test and review, thank you so much for the educational content!
Disengage the lock and check for side to side play and you'll notice the knife has a ton of play. And if you tighten the pivot to reduce side to sids play the centering becomes off to the clip side.
Mine is drop-shut smooth and centered. With the lock disengaged, there’s barely a hint of side-to-side, so little it’s barely discernible. Who uses a knife with the lock disengaged anyway?
Good review dude. I have some TRM videos up too- Frank To The Point The Shadow G10 is ok but the Titanium has a such a better feel. Hope you get to check one out someday.
I'm fidgeting with my Grape Micarta version right now. Only had it a few days but the action seems decent. Can't reverse-flick it to save my life, the action seems a tad sticky but I'm guessing it'll break in.
TRM are Ht by Peter's to 61 give or take. Gerald tested their original knives and they were all sub 60. So he was monumental in them increasing the hardness to 61. His tests showed about 300-320ft iirc at 61rc. What does 500ft in your testing compare to?
Gerald's tests on 62rc m390 from a few makers was about 400ft and Roman's m390 at 62 was 585ft. Reate's secondary hardening at 60rc was 400ft for comparison numbers.
Interesting discussion about the cross bar lock! I have the Micarta version and mine has no lock stick OR blade play, which is nice. I'd disagree that 20 thousandths is better than average for bte thickness. Chinese-made knives typically come in between 12 and 15 thou. American made knives are all over the map, depending on how "hard use" they're intended to be. Given that TRM knives are geared more for light duty/EDC use, I'd much prefer to see them come in under 15 thousandths.
i would like to see them come in under 15 thou as well. The Chinese made knives ive seen a bit thicker, but only once reprofiled to 18 DPS. a lot of them have very obtuse factory edge angles
Does your particular example have blade rap or is it close to having it? I have a gray G-10 Shadow and it has horrible blade rap. The inner side of the integral “backspacer” has a huge notch in it and the edge is destroyed 😂. I need to send it in, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Excellent content! Very informative. You just saved me so much fruitless tinkering!
Thank you for creating content like this. Very educational 🔥
That is definitely my Grail

I've always liked the look of the Shadow. That bead is dope btw.

Mine doesn’t have that … it’s brand brand new

The shadow and swordfish look really good.
I always thought the shadow was a great looking knife, especially the milled titanium but both seem like very solid knives.
Nice knife

Trm is interestingz i want ronlove their knives, but theres always something jist a bit off
Only the best makers will be willing to send you stuff unless they are desperate for exposure, you are a bad maker’s nightmare. 😂
it's a meh design...
