I went in the mid 70s and we were allowed to be next to the stones. Magical place.
I visited it in the mid 80's and you couldn't anymore. There's that circle path around the stones, but I step off to get closer, and some little man popped out of the ground shoo'ing me back. It was a bunch of big stones, but it's magical to see the huge investment some group put in to placing these stones.
I went there two times, the last one for the 2017 solstice. During the equinox the stone circle is still open (it's too crowded) but anyway, I had the possibility to sleep for few hours, I was very tyred for the long trip, on one of the blue stone, the number 37. It was magical.
I was there 2004 or 2005, had to walk like 2 miles across the fields and some ppl were standing on top of the stones, people were dancing and trying to shag all around the stones while police were trying to separate them. It was pretty funny tbh. Crazy Pagans.
I'm sure it's not like that anymore.
I think as late as ten years ago you still could walk amongst the stones by appointment lottery, but was very difficult because they rarely did those events. But yes your days of smoking grass, climbing and dancing on the top of the stones is long gone.
pavelow235 As I visited it with my 2 small children smoking grass wasn’t on the cards. I don’t smoke anyway lol. We d had a fabulous day at Longleat and stopped off at the stones on the way back. I remember it being very windy.
Visited Stonehenge in May 2019. It was a different world then, just 1 year ago. Loved the peaceful quiet watching this video today. Thank you fir posting! Rochester, NY USA

I had a few reoccurring dreams of this place from ages 5-7, before I ever knew it existed. It blew my mind the first time I saw this place in pictures

I have been there at least 3 times. You can touch the stones now but only on Summer Solstice eve & morning.
I loved it there. Its my spiritual home...

It was wonderful to see the sun set (*obscured by clouds*) at the Stones, without the crowds, hippies and mayhem....I live in the US and felt very fortunate to have this chance to "be there" live. Thank you English Heritage for this live feed. I will be tuning in for the sunrise as well.

I went to stone henge a couple of years ago and paid for the pass to walk amongst the rocks. One thing I did notice is that time felt different there- the hour or 2 we were there literally felt like 5 minutes.
