i5 4690k + Asus Z97-AR Used for £180 Will It Overclock?

- Just a quick video showing my overclock of 4.5ghz on an i5 4690k. This build was purchased second hand with the motherboard being the bargain £45. The motherboard was always my concern here being so cheap surely it must have problems.
Well it overclocks like a champ using Ai tuner in the bios, I was easily hitting 4.7ghz between 1.27 and 1.3 volts. But due to my cooler I backed down to 4.5ghz giving me a 29% overclock.

Doing the same right now, cpu rarely is the bottleneck if you play vr

yes you could on insufficient board, same goes for gpu board
technically rams too but theyre sort of high durable
I want to thankyou for your video i have a z97 a motherboard and have never overclocked in my life. But i watched your vid and my i5 4690k is now at 4.5ghz running at 1.2 volts and is perfect great temps absolutely stoked. Thankyou. Im looking at buying a gtx 1070 your vid on that has assured me with the bottleneck drama, and that i should be fine. Im now a subscriber to your videos cheers mate
mantis2334 cheers glad it's helped yeah the 1070 is a beast. got a few more videos of it coming next week. borrowed it of a friend while he was on holiday. looking to purchase another one January. only advice I'd give is at 1080-1440p your going to want to have a 144hz monitor the 1070 and 1080 are wasted at 60hz. the same is said for my 1060 it's very good at hitting 80-120hz at 1080p.

I have the same MOB as you, and a 4690k CPU. I thought that to OC it I should just move the multiplier and the voltage up til I got satisfied. Didnt know about the LLC. Why not just let it on Auto anyway? Also, in ASUS, does increasing the LLC level increases the tension compensation, or is it inverse? And, at last, about chaging the RAM frequency, shouldnt we turn on the XMP profile for that? Did you do that?
yes auto llc will do fine, it changes the voltage behavior
rams if you planning to oc it then disable, otherwise yes enable
turbo mode enable itself when i put core to 45?

What is the purpose of selecting CPU Load-Line Calibration to 8? Is this important when overclocking to 4.5Ghz?

What's the safe voltage for a 4.2ghz overclock? I have same board the Asus Z97-A and same processor the i5 4690K (currently at 3.5ghz). I don't want to go too crazy with the overclocking, I just want to bring it up to a nice comfortable, speedy 4.2Ghz. Since you already did your tests, what's the safe voltage for 4.2ghz? That way I just set the voltage based on what you tell me and don't have to go back and forth restarting the system to figure it out on my own. Thank you in advance, hope you can answer that question for me soon though. By the way, anyone here that has done the same and reads my post can also answer my question, doesn't necessarily has to be "TheFullSetup" guy himself answering it.

That link you provided there is very helpful. I'm not doing any overclocking yet 'cause I'm still waiting for my Hyper 212 EVO Cooler to arrive to replace the stock fan but, in the meantime I did wanted to know an approximate safe voltage for a 4.2ghz overclock which is as high as I'm intending to overclock my cpu to anyways. You mentioned to set at 1.2v-1.25v to start, at the link you provided the results for the 4690K overclocked @ 4.2ghz shows a CPU voltage of 1.100. Do you still recommend setting a start voltage at 1.2-1.25v range or set at a low 1.1v as shown on anandtech.com?
JAMS CHANNEL go with there voltages I had in my head when I was pushing 4.8ghz. I've had a lot of processor since then so brain went to mish when you mentioned voltage.

I have this exact CPU and motherboard, followed your instructions perfectly and got a BSOD on startup. Had to reset everything back to default to load Windows.
Also, I spoke with an ASUS tech and he said setting a core ratio sets Turbo Mode to Enabled automatically, so disabling it at the start of the video was pointless.

which cooler are you using in this configuration? Do you know I could get it with a cryorig H5 ultimate?
pretty sure this was a corsair h55 with dual so 120. got DeepCool maelstrom 240t now you might have to go lower than 4.5 with air cooler.

Change it to manual and put it in the override
When I set the multipliers, it doesn't save. The clock speeds stay @ the default multiplier

***** No it's good I solve the problem by running the freezer I bios and when I let it run windows (7) as his freezer but I managed to settle the problem if my config: I5-4690K, EVGA geforce gtx 970, 8GB DDR3, fan base by giving intel (The overclock is complicated) 1TB hard drive and that's all I want but if he can overclock I need Thee less tension because I do not have fan and if I put my coolermaster my graphics card does not start probably because Watts

Perry Beyer it's a pretty standard thing turning off turbo. so you set yourself a 4.5ghz which is the max your processor can do stable. so then turbo kicks in and it jumps to 4.8ghz and your system crashes smart move that.
Perry, you should always disable turbo if you're manually over clocking.
