I am a retired hairdresser and this is the best bun tutorial on the net, believe me. The way she uses the sock is key. I've seen no one else do this. Smart young lady.
Ikr...everyone else rolls the sock into a complete donut and then tuck the hair as they roll it down, she pulls the sock all the way up to cover the hair, tucks in the ends and then rolls it down....so simple. Thanks Kier Mellour!!
Um, I think I love you. This video is so full of genius. A hot curling iron for flattening fly-aways? Unrolling the sock a little to keep layers in? GOLD.
This is THE most helpful and accurate bun video on RUclips!! I’ve tried SO many others and at first I was like, “Oh well, another bust!” THeN it started twisting just like yours!!! Thank you so much! You just cut 20 minutes off of my pre-yoga prep schedule. I’m so grateful
I realize I’m 5 years late to the party, but you, my friend, are a GENIUS!! I’ve tried using the annoying bun makers from the store and NOTHING worked, but this did!!! Thank you!!!!!!
Thank you!! I cannot tell you how many tutorials I watched that just didn't work with my layered hair. After watching this I was finally successful! Thank you again!
Seriously . I have tried this many times before and went through so many socks!! LOL . But "yours" worked. Leaving about 6 inches of unrolled sock made all the difference. Thank you so much!! Now I too can have a bun . :)
YOU JUST BLEW MY MIND!!!!!! I was looking for a tutorial on how to do a sock bun with long hair and non of them worked....I'm so excited to try this bcuz this one ik will work THANK YOU!!!!!😄😄😄
Thank you so much I am in JROTC so I have to have to have my hair in a sock bun when I wear my uniform, but I have thick hair and layers. I have watched a bunch of videos so far, but yours is definetley the best one yet. Thanks!
This is the best tutorial i have come across. after days and hours of trying with the other way, i'd had enough and went on the hunt for some other possible ways to try. I came accross your tutorial and i managed to do it first time without it looking like i had been dragged through a hedge! Thank you :) x
That was amazing. I am going to try this if i can find an appropriate sock. I NEVER do my hair because i do not know how. I also own basically just hairspray. So thank you from an over 30 year old who never learned about girls hair :)
Thank goodness there's a sock bun tutorial that works for layers! I simply could not get my ends to tuck into the sock if I started with the sock rolled up. Your way of starting with the sock partly unrolled and tucking the ends under before starting to roll down works! Thank you!
It seams easy but.... I can't do it!!! Ugh, it's so frustrating! My hair goes all over the place, that perfect "tuck" you do, it's not happening! and it's not even layered 😫 Maybe it's too long? 😒
Try tucking a little more hair so it's not at the very end, does that make sense? like tuck the last 2 inches all at once and roll, then spread the hair as you work down.. you can spray your hair with hairspray or that spray I am using and brush it through your pony tail to make it easier to work with.
After watching several video's on how to make the "bun" hairstyle, I gotta tell you...this looks quick, easy, and efficient. My kind of style! Thanks for showing this, I knew there had to be an easier way! Not to mention that my hair isn't really long like most video's showed. Thanks again!
How can I do this but have the bun smaller in the end? :) I have really long, thick hair and if I tried this my bun would look like a UFO had landed on my head xD
Don't use a sock. Put your hair in a ponytail, and then gather all ends of your hair. Place that in a small ponytail as well. Then grab both lose ends right below the bottom elastic, and start rolling towards your head. Continue to rol until it sits as a bun on your head. Just secure with a couple Bobby pins, or another elastic.
I'm military and I have super curly, long, layered hair, and with some practice this worked perfectly! Will definitely be wearing to work. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this video. I can't do hair at all, but have to do a sock bun for my niece's dance class. This method works perfectly. I love the use of the sock to contain the hair
Please do that Kier. A lot of us are still having heaps of trouble despite understanding the process. I'm so bad at anything to do with my hair and I was hoping this could be an exception for something I could actually do. It makes sense and even looks easy. I don't know if I have bad hair or just bad hand coordination, or both, but short of putting my hair into a simple ponytail I can't do ANYTHING.
This really worked!! Looks pretty decent on my first try! I tried before and my hair was way too long so it didn't work, but now even with a lot of layers it rolled right up!! Thanks girl!!
@Chirstina wiesmann I guess it depends on how long her hair is, try it and try shortening it, but shorten t from the toe not the ankle so you don't loose your tight elastic which is at the end of the ankle..
Awesome curling iron trick for fly always! I hope it works for me as I have so many of them. I wish I had seen this vid before buying a hair donut. Your method looks definitely easier than spreading the hair evenly over the donut and wrapping it plus bobby pins which kept poking out...UGGGH! My arms got tired after trying several times to make a bun with the donut. Question...can you use this method to wear the bun at base of head/neck?
Thank you!!!! My hair is super long and very layered and I was having so much trouble with it getting too spread out as I got to the base. Keeping the sock unrolled is the best tip I've heard.
This worked so well for me on the first try! Thank you so much. I've watched at least 20 videos and tried different methods and none of them worked.. except for this one!
THIS IS SO SMART THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I have to do this style for a dance competition but my hair has zero texture and I couldn't get it to work the normal way!! Thank you again!!
It won't work..... Every time I try the top of my bun where I tuck it in work stay and the rest of my hair every time it'll get lumpy and poke out everywhere... How do you fix this???
Your method is so helpful! I can't do a normal sock bun because I have layers but this is so helpful! And school is starting next week for me. :D Thanks! Ily!
My hair could do this until I got my recent haircut about 2 months ago, my hairstylist MESSED up my hair! Like seriously she gave me a MILLION layers and when I put my hair in a ponytail I have a flat ponytail instead of a point on the end 😂
+Chloe Meyer OMG! That's why I don't get layers anymore! I stopped getting layers 2 years ago because I wanted to start putting my hair up in buns and stuff and when I got pregnant my hair grew SO FAST! Now it's really long and my bun is SO huge 😂!
Honestly the best sock bun tutorial I've seen! Bc the other videos don't suggest leaving some "tube" of the sock to hold in layers... awesome idea!! &&& u just tuck in the tip of your hair to start and others say to spread it around at first which I found to be very hard with layers and holding all sides under at once.! Thank you so much!
Thank you, all the other methods were difficult to get in for me and I had to try 5-6 times just to get it and it would still be loose and messy. This worked for me on the first try and it feels so much tighter and secure than the other methods. Thanks a lot. 😄
OMG! Thanks so much. I usually take the same hairstyle to school and i started to get bored of it. I always wanted to learn how to do an easy bun that is quick and simple to wear to school instead and this is the video I needed! Thank you and please make more easy and simple hair tutorials! And your hair is so nice and you look beautiful so keep up the good work!
Thank you for posting this. I know I'm late to the game but with layered hair I can't seem to do any of the cool styles everyone else does. This just might work for me!
I love it ! I did it for a first try and my mom loved it. I showed her the viedo then she chouldnt belive there was a sock! 😋😄😃😊😊😃😃😄😃😀😀😊😀😃😀😀😃💛💙💜💚❤💜💙💛💜❤❤💙💛💜❤❤😄😄😃😊😀😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Thank you SO much for this tutorial! I've never been able to do buns and it always really frustrated me because i love the hairstyle and after watching this tutorial i can do it in one minute and it looks great! Thank you c
I love your sock buns Kier, it looks so easy when you do it! I hope I can watch more of your videos. I've been trying so hard to do the perfect sock bun, but now I think I can do it because of your videos! LOVIN' IT!!
I am 42 and I used to use hair spray (Big Bangs) in the mid -late 80's. Other than that no product, little to no work on my hair compared to an average girl. I brush and regular pony tail or basic bun and go. (Wash of course!) Have no clue what any of these bun/pony tails are called! I started watching these hair videos to find a good video to help my husband and son be able to put my hair up for me because it is long and I just had shoulder surgery. During my search I came across this! I love this idea! Cute and Elegant ! Can be sporty too, I guess? Easy to understand and no expensive materials!
By far the best sock bun tutorial I have ever seen and I've seen a few!! Worked a great first time and stays without using bobby pins....pure genius, why has no body ever thought of doing it this way before?? thank you so much for sharing ☺💓 xXx
omg thx sooooooooo much u seriously are a life saver cuz my hair is like freakishly long and i always see other girls with these cute little buns andi always try and comes out a disaster... thx again!!!!!!! ; )
I never heard of this so always looking for tips putting up my hip length hair fast and no fuss. Okay so I cut up one of my sons sports socks shhh. My first go was hard but it did somewhat work. So at it again, this time taking my time when rolling it and spreading it out. Well I be a bella at the ball right now!! As it came out fab!! No hairpins either harahhh!!. I gave it a few other ways that also worked. Lower on the nape of neck Looks really nice. Splitting it so it's a small bun and hair flowing. Adding scarfs, clips and flower in the center. But here is something really cool I got a dollar store long pearl necklace and cut it. Placed one end under the hairband and while pulling my hair did so with the now cut one strand of pearls while rolling it.Spreading it out with hair and pearls. And WOW it pearlized the bun!!! Oh I feel like Cinderella now haha. I am now happy I came here!! So gals don't give up!! Thanks Kier you made my hair routine super fast and pretty. Xx

Becky McPhail uh huh. amd what are your views of her criminally inept use of hair curler ?? ridiculous. and you're fired for not saying so.
Cool
True! I'd say it's fine for short hair but not if your hair is past your waist.
@@dawnatilla lol, criminal? You need a chill pill. 😂
Great idea. I'm a dad trying to get my daughter ready for church , so that way made things alot faster👍
You make it look so easy i litterally am sitting here with a sock stuck in my hair

Ingenious! Nobody else has done one where they roll it down as they go, and this way requires no pins!! Ty, I will HAVE to try this
This is the best tutorial i have come across. after days and hours of trying with the other way, i'd had enough and went on the hunt for some other possible ways to try. I came accross your tutorial and i managed to do it first time without it looking like i had been dragged through a hedge! Thank you :) x

yeah same here my hair is like a big mess! its poofing out
I was having the same problem and my hair is layered. I just folded the sock all the way Down instead of part way and it actually tucked under.
Julescr80 uh oh, now I'm worried because my hair is pretty long, but my buns are kind of all over the place, so I'm praying this will work.
After watching several video's on how to make the "bun" hairstyle, I gotta tell you...this looks quick, easy, and efficient. My kind of style! Thanks for showing this, I knew there had to be an easier way! Not to mention that my hair isn't really long like most video's showed. Thanks again!

Great job i love your tutorial do simple no tricks and fancy pancy instructions thank you take care
That's a genious way to do the sock bun: roll sock halfway! Thank you for your version.
Yasssss boo you did that 🙌 best tutorial I've seen so far.

Thank you ever so much!! Finally a video that actually shows a perfect bun other than all messy
How can I do this but have the bun smaller in the end? :) I have really long, thick hair and if I tried this my bun would look like a UFO had landed on my head xD
OMG, I have NO idea- I used to have super long thick hair too and my bun was enormous... sorry I can't help with this one!
So you don't use sock. Just make it without it.
Just use a child's sock I guess
Give some to me!!! Lmao my bun looks like a knot coz I don't have enough hair. Every one has their own struggle lol
Don't use a sock.
Put your hair in a ponytail, and then gather all ends of your hair. Place that in a small ponytail as well. Then grab both lose ends right below the bottom elastic, and start rolling towards your head.
Continue to rol until it sits as a bun on your head.

Hachey Candi you can use a leg warmer
Hachey Candi my friend says my hair is SO thick that my hair can get stuck with the sock....

This was SO HELPFUL. I have layered hair! I'm going to try your way!
I like having a big bun in my hair but than everyone in my class is always telling me to take,it down because they can't see the board
Thank you soooo much! I have tried every sock bun tutorial and this was the only one that works for me!

THIS IS SO SMART THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I have to do this style for a dance competition but my hair has zero texture and I couldn't get it to work the normal way!! Thank you again!!
wow this worksss
Anusha no it doesn't it's so hard lol
@@ryleightrystandowd2627 if your hair is very healthy it’s much harder. Try using a texture spray before to help with grip!

It won't work..... Every time I try the top of my bun where I tuck it in work stay and the rest of my hair every time it'll get lumpy and poke out everywhere... How do you fix this???
nothing will fix this...
Julia Chang thanks 4 ur support (NOT)
Trust me... I tried
Maybe try bobby pins?? Or use a hot bun or another method?
Oh, now I can do it.... Practice... Lots and lots of it...
Your method is so helpful! I can't do a normal sock bun because I have layers but this is so helpful! And school is starting next week for me. :D Thanks! Ily!
Just use a tooth brush to make the fly away hair go away.....it's a mini brush
Cute! Makes your hair look really thick too. Thanks for sharing.
doesnt work for me at all my hair is all sorts of lengths and it just goes every where
Emz
You probably need to texture it first. Try dry shampoo and backcombing.
I've tried everything to get a perfect bun, but nothing! And this helped so much, love this idea! Thanks!
My hair is so thick I don't need a sock bun. People think I use it but I tell them to stick their finger in to prove. Lol 😜
lol!

im laughing b/c she cut up her man's nordie's socks. dude use the ones from target!
YAS!! My thoughts exactly! Cutting up and using an expensive sock to do the job of a $3 PAIR of socks from Target? Crazy.
I am sure they weren't new socks! Lol!
