I just bought the Juki 8700-H for my horse blanket repair business. I saved $from all my sewing service the last several months. I was in tears when I placed the order. The first of 3 boxes arrived today. Super excited. I too went through several Brother machines. My Singer Heavy Duty has been a workhorse and I'm still gonna use it. I consider the Juki an investment and not an expense.
great video. thanks, for me was very informative. I have bought this sewing machine yesterday but I'll get it next month, because I've paid half of the money now and another half I'll pay next monght. that is why. am happy with this sewing machine. actually I was looking for a freearm walking foot machine, but my budget was not enough for that. that is why I bought this one. I'll try to start some home businesse for bag making. that is why this machine is also good enough to start with, and maybe later if my businesse got success I'll buy another freearm machine too. but for now this one is good enough for me.
You are such a sweetheart for showing this video Lauren, and yes it's Melinda (me) who just got hers, and I'm so glad I found your channel initially b/c you have shown it in all of your videos and I always wanted one. thanks again!
Thanks! I've had my 'Strider,' aka 1181n for almost 2 yrs. I love this guy! You showed me on thing I didn't know....how to raise the foot when winding the bobbin! I always wind while sewing but now I have an option. Thanks, again, for this video!

Lol. I have an industrial sewing maching and I highly recommend for people who sew 80 hours per week. I too ran though many home type sewing machines (about 5 per year) before I thought of buying my industrial machine. Its like driving a brand new car. I will tell you about that fuse. Thank you Lauren for the tour of your machine. I have the JukiTL 2010Q and the Janome HD9 and still have problems going through the thick layers of faux leather and canvas. I watch your videos and see this machine is a workhorse. Going this week to look at this one and the 1541S. Love watching you in all your videos. 💕
Hi Roxanne! I am shopping for a new machine for Quilting. I am looking a TL2010Q as it is "semi-commercial" machine. I have switched to the Quilt and you Go method of quilting, this method goes through 6-9 layers of fabric including batting. I am curious, since you mention trouble with thick layers, do you think the TL2010Q could handle layers of cotton/cotton blends and batting and what sort of issues did you have with the TL2010Q? Thank you for any words of advice and guidance you can offer as I keep killing my little machines and am researching in order to purchase a good quality portable workhorse for my needs.
I live in an old (102 yo) 2 story house, not including the fully floored attic and concrete floored basement, so I'd be in the same boat as you were, Lauren with no help. I'd have to sweet talk one of they guys from my local home improvement store that I used to work with. I've really wanted a machine like yours. Bright side is, there's a Juki dealer and fabric store about a mile from my house and the husband of the lady who runs the fabric store, works on sewing machines.
I bought the Juki 1541 walking foot machine. Sews over everything. There certainly is a learning curve. I go from my Bernina machines to the Juki depending what I'm working on. Very different. Love it so far.
I love yours! I went from a $50 dollar Walmart machine to a Kenmore sewing/embroidery machine to a Babylock Ellegante also a sewing/embroidery machine to a used Juki 5550 D for just a $100! ( I got it from a lady who sewed cotumes for movies in LA) It had a clutch motor and I purchase a servo motor off amazon and my husband replace it very easily! The guy who clean up my Juki wanted to charge me $500 dollars to change the motor. We bought it for $100 on amazon and replacing it was a breeze! I really want the one you have but, after spending so much in the machine I got I can’t for now. Enjoy it because it is a BEAST! I think they are the best and I wish I knew more about machines before investing in the Babylock Elllegante.
Love your sense of humor and realness, and the cute puns haha. *sigh* one day.............. until then I will continue with my cheap $99 Singer I have from Walmart, but a girl can dream :)
You have a fabulous sense of humor !! Looking into getting one of these bad boys lol! I have a Singer Brilliance and Brother Se400. They are not heavy duty even though my brother Se400 goes through soft leather easily. But more and more are asking me to fix zippers on material that is harder to sew through. eekk I have to hand crank to get it through! I need an industrial one! So saving up for it!
Very informative video clip. I don't have this sewing machine, but good source of info just the same. I too have run down several sewing machines trying to sew bags, lol.
I have a couple big industrial machines and I have castors on them for easy movement anywhere in my room to sew. The front two castors are locking for safety. They work great!
Thanks for the video, Lauren - you're so real...and entertaining. I also have the Juki DU1181n. One thing I might mention - the Owner's Manual is in Chinese AND English - just page through it and you'll see that the pages in English are sandwiched in between the Chinese pages. By the way, I hate spiders, too. LOL.
I know Im randomly asking but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Maximilian Jon i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
My husband bought me a singer in 1994, I used it twice, plucked it into the closet, pulled it out in 2003 to make my first quilt for my dad. I placed the quilt just fine, but when it came time to quilt it, I broke the throat of the machine and he came home to me in tears. My Juki 1508 just showed up Tuesday and my husband tore a muscle in his arm taking up stairs to my sewing room..... still not together today because they forgot to send the manual with it so it’s still in parts.
Thank you Lauren for a great video. My lovely Hubby bought me this machine! I too have killed my Brother domestic making bags so he decided I needed this. I've already knocked the timing out after hitting hardware 🙄 but managed to fix it after watching Steve at Sewing Gold. I don't have speed control on mine (bought in UK) well I haven't got the same dial as yours so I don't think I have, so I need to learn to not be too heavy footed, especially when sewing near hardware 😳 I wouldn't have been brave enough to get this machine without having your video's to help me, so huge thanks from me! Ps his name is Bruce, Bruce Almighty 🤣
Love the video. You are so adorable ❤️. Looking to invest in an industrial machine someday. Recently bought a husqvarna multi 10 needle embroidery machine and trying to learn all about it, but lately more and more into bag making. Thank you for going over your machine, every little information helps. You are so talented. Keep up the great work and fascinating videos. 👍
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the machine and more so for sharing your sewing video You asked us t share any tips we had and I would like to share when changing thread it works really really well to tie Of the thread , ( I usually use the square knot. Right over left ,left over right as we did in Girl Scouts yrs and yrs ago) lift the foot and you can simply pull the thread thru the machine .. most times you will only have to thread needle. Thanks for all your “ fun” videos. You keep sewing interesting Thanks again!!!!!!!!!
Love this. This is my next machine. I'm such an idiot for buying the juki tl 2010. It was almost the same price and now that I know what I know I wish I went with yours!!!!! I'll have to buy it and then sell my machine cuz I dont want to be without a machine!!! You should do a video close up of your machine sewing.. and maybe how to adjust tension and things... If u have time of course
Cassandra! I actually did the same thing!! I went to my local quilt shop and bought the 2010 and it did good but not great. So I tried it for the week and then returned it and bought my baby immediately after!
@@LaurenMormino I feel like the juki domestic you have used in a video or 2 is pretty much the 2010 but not as much throat space?? Or Am I totally wrong on that?? Was that one cheaper than the 2010 ?? I am a little concerned that the du 1181 doesn't like fabric that isnt interfaced but it seems the waterproof canvas solves that problem?. I'm addicted to watching your vids by the way. Thanks for taking the time to make them!!
I just purchased this machine. Have add it for 2 weeks and have yet get it to use it. It had a thread jam from the factory. I finally got it unjammed and threaded but it will not stitch. I’m hoping it’s the tension that needs adjusted. I purchased to make home décor mostly custom pillows that are to thick for my Juki quilting machine QVP. I will be happy to take any advice you can provide. You are so correct about the manuals they are not very good. I don’t read Chinese 😂
Not sure if you already fix it or not but, you asked. After you thread your thread through the whole on the bottom of the first “tension” nob you go straight to the tension nob on the bottom, pass it through the really thin bar the tension nob has then through the “elbow” bar that is to the left of the tension nob and when you go up then you thread it through that metal loop above the tension nob, the hidden bar you were talking about and then other metal loop on the other side. Not sure if this is well explained. If you find yourself braking thread or so it could be this.
I have a Juki 8700H (after killing my domestic!) but found it struggled with thicker stuff. My dad gave me some money and I had some sewing income too so bought a Juki 1541 DNU. I sew everything from fabric (sew my own clothes) to heavy leather so the combination is really good for me. My dining room is a gonna though haha
Hi Lauren, Thank you for this video, I'm in Queensland, Australia and hopefully will buy the same Juki next year, and 100% because of YOU!!!, I love your videos and the relaxed way you just do it, so thank you and keep up the great stuff you do. xxxx
My Brother Embroidery machine crapped out a year ago. I gotta take it in for repairs. I'd still like to keep it cause that was the very last one Walmart sold of that type.
Oh Lauren, I love you, "lets just huff it" omg I'm on the floor. I put my on off switch on the side so the kids couldn't walk by and switch it (brats). The thing on the switch I think is a fuse! My drawer came broken :-(. I need another magnet for my head to keep the seam ripper! I just noticed that sticker on mine too LOL.
The gutterman Mara 100 isn't working great in mine, I ordered tex 70 from Wawak it'll be here tomorrow. The other thread I ordered from amazon was wound the wrong way it kept breaking and unwinding on me :-(
@@LaurenMormino I got H to look at it, and I Screwed up the thread routing, it's sewing super pretty now, I think I have to size down to a 14 needle though bc the needle is so big compared to the thread with the Mara. BUT new thread should be here sooooon!!!!
After you try it you would be inspired to do more and more snd more, your creativity will sparkle. Promise it. This sewing "thing" is like a never ending spool.
oh my God I can't believe it's finally done waited a long time please kindly film part 2 how to wind the bobbin and how you use the knee lifter and the foot pedal being used please ok thank you very much.
Just purchased my very own Juki DU 1181n after watching this..... I love it!! The link for the feet is dead, any chance you could give me the part number? 😊
Great video! But..... Haha, I feel so dumb... How many times I've rocked my machine back to get to the oil pan and clean the bobbin area of gunk... But never thought to do that when I have a birdsnest. In the bobbin area.. I've actually laid on the floor trying to get up under it with tweezers... Durrr 😂😂😂 PS... You're so cute, love your videos 🤗
Thanks for the video. Juki should pay you a commission. After watching this video I did some research and bought a Juki 1541S and love it. Just two days later...that's good sales influencing!
Just brought my 1181 home...hoping I can get it going:-) Assembly went well until we tried to actually pump the oil through and then managed to break two needles. Now awaiting thread....
Ten months ago I watched your video and decided when I bought one it would be a Juki like yours. I got it yesterday! Hand wheel is really hard to turn as well as changing the stitch length. I’ll try your tip of holding down the reverse lever to shorten stitches. I wasn’t able to put overlay on lining piece for zipper because it distorts thin fabrics. Is that too much pressure on pressure foot? #21 needle in it too. I’ll change that tomorrow as well. Getting lamps, oil and bobbins. Thanks for the list and the great video. I got a Chinese manual that has a little English but doesn’t answer anything. Thanks again. Hugs for Dorothy too!🥰
What was so hard about using it? I’d love to get one, but I already have a Brother D755-B55-3, I think. I don’t wanna go in there and look…lol. It’s very old. My mom used to upholster and make custom draperies. It is so freaking fast. 4000 spm, dang. I changed the pulley to the smallest one I could get. Did several other recommended things. Still too fast and I am at the moment trying to make your Emily bag. I have thrown the material across the room! Lol. I need something slower. It has a clutch motor. Maybe a servo motor will help. I want to thank you like everyone else. You’ve helped me immensely. It does seem like a lot of folks are making bags now. Wondering if it’s worth investing in another machine or just go back to quilting.
Hello Lauren I just got my Du 1181n about a month ago, when topstitching my first finished bag the bottom thread was loopy in spots so I went on RUclips and whatever your video and fierce Kitten video. I like how you thread your machine, I do not think Fierce Kittens machine is threaded right. What do you think?
Hi Lauren. I was interested in making backpacks, pouches and other things so I know this would with for that. However, I'd like to also work with making some clothes. With the correct adjustments, does the 1181n work well with lighter fabrics or is it always gonna end badly? Great video btw!
Me too! But i am determined to do this! Never give up! I just finally turned it on and it sewed but I have to check out a few minor adjustments, I think!
I want to get a industrial sewing machine too. I was using one during my Home E.C. class during Junior high school. Juki Sewing machines are Manufactured in Tokyo, Japan. So your manuls are likely to be written in Katakana and hiragana.
I just bought this machine and the instructions doesn't help. Trying to figure out what connects to what is a job. But I know I'll love it when it's put together.
Hello! Words of advice: Make sure you work out the problem of delivery of a heavy machine. Two, pay extra for full assembly of table and sewing machine, along with all extras you purchase! It is not easy to put together. Have them do all but add oil! You will be happy you did! I have just completed all this thanks to RUclips videos! Difficult and 5 days of work! But i did it!Let the experts do it! :)
Hi Lauren, I was wondering if you know why this machine has looping only while going over certain things? One example is if you have a seam allowance for putting a bag together with decovil light and you keep the decovil out of your seam allowance but then when you have to fold it over and top stitch it hates it and will loop. The 8700 does it also , but yet other industrial machines seem to handle it better. It doesn't like some transitions, and was hoping there was a way to make it deal with them better. I figured if anyone would know it would be you with the amount of sewing you do and you also use a lot of decovil. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks 😊
Lauren, I love your video. I have a 8100 E H and it has the same thread configurations that you have but I thread it a different way. I will try your configuration. Love your accessory wall items. What is your source? Love how you have your zippers. Might try that since I do have the wall space. Thanks so much. Oh what is the source for your light above your sewing machine and how are you putting your magnets on the machine. Is that vinyl covering the magnets? Sorry for all the questions. lol
I just started following you, and watched about your Juki. Love it by the way. Like your description of parts of machine. Anyway question: noticed most of your bags are leather, vinyl etc. So will this model of Juki sew well on cotton fabric?
Hello Lauren, Thank you for this video. Currently I have a Janome HD-3000 Heavy Duty sewing machine. I have definitely put it through some hard times and have thrown the timing off numerous times as well as broke several needles. Usually I am sewing multiple layers of 10 oz duck canvas, several layers of bull denim fabric and would like to sew medium to thick leather. With that being said, usually my sewing sessions are full of explicit language being heard outside of my sewing/office. My sewing projects are mostly cosplay and costuming projects.I have watched a few videos on the Juki DU-1181N and am really curious if it will suit my sewing needs and reduce my stress while sewing? Thank you in advance for any help.
I also own the DU-1181. I use it for leather sewing and heavy upholstery/canvas etc. I also own a needle feed DLN-9010 and use that for most of my normal sewing. If you are breaking needles and throwing off the timing you definitely will feel an improvement with one of industrial models. Reliable also makes a needle feed which is less expensive than Juki though I have not owned onw. I like my DU1181 but it is basic, no thread cutting, no auto knee lift but it definitely does the job. Get one, you won't look back.
@Lauren Mormino thanks so much. I am trying to decide if I should get the 1181n or a 1541 type. Well, to be honest if I could afford it I would get both...lol. I have been sewing for many years but this will be my first industrial. My domestic can't keep up with the bags I want to make now. I'm having such a hard time deciding.
Hi Lauren! Does this machine plug into a standard wall power outlet? Does it pull a lot of volts do you know? I will be putting this machine into my 16' vintage RV that I have turned into my sewing studio.
That’s an excellent question. I know it plugs into the wall But not sure on the motor. They do have different types! I know Steve from Sewing Gold in Chicago is a huge help when looking at these machines!
Yes …a guy that encourages your talents and growth is a keeper!

Wow, thank you. I enjoyed the tour. You are very blessed to have such a great space to exercise your talent.
Thank you Donna! I agree. It’s a lot of hard work and blessing!
I bought the Juki 1541 walking foot machine. Sews over everything. There certainly is a learning curve. I go from my Bernina machines to the Juki depending what I'm working on. Very different. Love it so far.
I’ve been dying to try that machine!!!
I have the same Juki! It's amazing!
I’m about to sew a 3rd machine “into the ground” so I really appreciate this video.
OMG “the kids not dead yet” we just became best friends!! I love none real you are!, please keep making videos!!
This cracked me up too!
My kids are still alive as well!
My dream machine! Thanks for the video and all the inspiration you have provided to me personally!
Very informative video clip. I don't have this sewing machine, but good source of info just the same. I too have run down several sewing machines trying to sew bags, lol.
I saw the white thread just fine! Thank you for the great video!!!
I have a couple big industrial machines and I have castors on them for easy movement anywhere in my room to sew. The front two castors are locking for safety. They work great!
Me too. Christmas dinner requires maneuvering the beast under the stairs...beauty stays where she is haha
LOL.
I followed along and learned a ton! I had lots of questions (like raising the foot) that I could not find elsewhere. Thanks so much - you're a doll!
Thank you for this video! I just got one for Christmas, so I appreciate you sharing the information you’ve learned!
Super grateful for this video. Just got this machine and feeling a little freaked out and daunted lol this video is so helpful!!!!!!
thank you Lauren for this I just purchased my machine and it did not come with a user manual either so this is very helpful
I know Im randomly asking but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account??
I stupidly forgot my password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Myles Zayd instablaster =)
@Maximilian Jon i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm.
Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Maximilian Jon it worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much you really help me out!
@Myles Zayd happy to help =)
I was just looking at this machine today and your video popped up with all the information I was looking for. THANK YOU!!!!! Love your work!!
Just had mine delivered today...so happy! I nested for mine to lol...hoovered to lol
Thank you Lauren for the walk through. I’ve just ordered this machine in the UK. Very excited and nervous at the same time 😂
I'm from UK 2 and thinking of getting one
@@samanthakeegan4753 had mine now for a while and love it.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the machine and more so for sharing your sewing video
You asked us t share any tips we had and I would like to share when changing thread it works really really well to tie
Of the thread , ( I usually use the square knot. Right over left ,left over right as we did in Girl Scouts yrs and yrs ago)
lift the foot and you can simply pull the thread thru the machine .. most times you will only have to thread needle.
Thanks for all your “ fun” videos. You keep sewing interesting
Thanks again!!!!!!!!!
Mary Bowie a reef knot 😀
Great video Lauren thank you I've been in love with your badass machine since I started watching you lol. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Make sure your needle is going the right direction!
PS loved the threads on the floor. I was thinking you had a bin and were a cracking aim so was feeling very inadequate haha!
Hide & Silk
How light of fabric can you sew with your machine??
Thank you 🙏🏻
You are Awesome. i love watching you!🙏🏻❤️
I was thinking about getting one so thanks for the info!
I just ordered my Juki DU -1181N ! I was wondering which machine order and you help me on my decision, thanks ! I am so excited!
The other thread I ordered from amazon was wound the wrong way it kept breaking and unwinding on me :-(
Oh that’s so so awful 😭😭😭😭
@@LaurenMormino I got H to look at it, and I Screwed up the thread routing, it's sewing super pretty now, I think I have to size down to a 14 needle though bc the needle is so big compared to the thread with the Mara. BUT new thread should be here sooooon!!!!
LOVE!! I want that machine so much but my studio is upstairs and I have no room. I don't make enough bags to justify it either.
After you try it you would be inspired to do more and more snd more, your creativity will sparkle. Promise it. This sewing "thing" is like a never ending spool.
I so very much desire this machine. It''s a dream that I pray for.
oh my God I can't believe it's finally done waited a long time please kindly film part 2 how to wind the bobbin and how you use the knee lifter and the foot pedal being used please ok thank you very much.
Hopefully I can do a close up in action video but I’ll have to get some help filming that!
I’m struggling learning how to use the knee lifter with the same leg as the pedal. Do you have any videos on tips for that
Just purchased my very own Juki DU 1181n after watching this..... I love it!!
The link for the feet is dead, any chance you could give me the part number? 😊
Ohh darn!
I have a skinny foot on my website now actually that I would highly recommend! Moremeknow.Com
Thanks for sharing this video. Is very helpful.👍👍👍👍👍
I am impatiently waiting for mine!
I have done that too trying to get stuff out of there. I was under it like a mechanic once fishing out a broken needle bit 😂😂😂
They are your left and right zipper foot Lauren....😊
I “sew” appreciate this video done by you! Hmmmmm, who can I pay to haul it up to my 3rd floor apartment when it’s delivered? 😂. I want it so bad!
Offer to sew them something.
Offer a 6 pack! 😂
Thanks for the video. Juki should pay you a commission. After watching this video I did some research and bought a Juki 1541S and love it. Just two days later...that's good sales influencing!
What is the difference between your machine and her machine in video?
Dianna A i would like to know toi
I have a JUKI DDL 8700 H I love my machine it will sew anything
Thanks Lauren - this was very helpful!
You have me interested in purchasing a industrial sewing machine even though I have a brother sm and overlocker which I love.
Thankyou Lauren that was really helpful.I am looking at buying a juki.
Just brought my 1181 home...hoping I can get it going:-) Assembly went well until we tried to actually pump the oil through and then managed to break two needles. Now awaiting thread....
Thank You! I love this lesson and the tour!
Hugs for Dorothy too!🥰
Make sure your knee lift is raised when turning the wheel. And the reverse lever to change stitch length!
Yes it doesn’t do thin fabric
I nested! I vacuumed! Lol Totally get it.
Thanks for the tutorial. I am really wanting to get one of them.
since year 2001 up to today my using juki machine is good and strong speed ,
What was so hard about using it?
I’d say if it makes you happy it’s worth investing! Lots of people make bags but there’s lots of people using them too
I want this machine! I have a Juki serger!
Thank you💜🙋♀️ im waiting it will be happen 👍
Thanks for another great video 💕
Love this you answered so many questions
Thank you Lauren. Great video.
Hi Lauren. I was interested in making backpacks, pouches and other things so I know this would with for that. However, I'd like to also work with making some clothes. With the correct adjustments, does the 1181n work well with lighter fabrics or is it always gonna end badly? Great video btw!
Thank you! Just bought the same machine and am scared to death of it! Lol!
@49jubilee Sorry and thank you.
Trying to decide between this and the 8700H.... very tough decision!!
I have that same Brother sewing machine!!! 🤣
It’s a very popular one!
I just bought this machine and the instructions doesn't help. Trying to figure out what connects to what is a job. But I know I'll love it when it's put together.
Hola donde compraste tu lampara
Thank you I have been looking for one ✌🏼
Bellissima tu macchina
Anche io ci sto pensando comprarmi una😄
Just got my machine home! So excited👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. How long does it take for wicks inside machine to be oiled?
Wind a few bobbins really quick!
Very Helpful, thanks so much :)
Thanks 😊
I will be honest I haven’t seen it. You may need to adjust the foot height?
@@LaurenMormino Thank you, I will try that 😊
Lauren, I love your video. Sorry for all the questions. lol
They were just invisible magnets i ordered from eBay!
All the hooks and boards are from ikea
I also included a link to the light on amazon!
I just started following you, and watched about your Juki. Love it by the way. Like your description of parts of machine. Anyway question: noticed most of your bags are leather, vinyl etc. So will this model of Juki sew well on cotton fabric?
great video! thanks so much!!
Do you prefer this 1181 over the 1541S? If so, why?
I haven’t used a 1541 to make a bag so I couldn’t say
Hi Lauren, Thank you for all your videos. I have learned so much. I was wondering if you had to choose would you still get the 1181 or the 1541s?
I would not get the 1541s
I would consider the techsew 1541 having recently sewn on it.
