Good concise information. Not enough Tai Chi Chuan players explain well the use of small circles, and more importantly, how to achieve them. Thank you for posting.

This is outstanding stuff. Breaking down techniques into practical applications. I think Tai Chi has practical applications especially with Balance which is always a critical aspect of fighting. To be rigid in applying Tai Chi is something that can go the wrong way in combat. TAKE what works and do not use what does not work. Brilliant approach.

    Very realistic.
I don't do what I'm about to say since I also spar using 16 oz gloves, but if you're bare handed or using mma gloves, long guard might be more effective. Their strikes will be automatically knocking into your guard at some distance, and you could stick and follow from there into any number of counters and close the distance for a take down.
Although the shell guard is still my go-to, I plan to experiment with long guard in my sparring. Wish my brain cells luck :)

...OK but that just looks like generic sparring maybe you try to stay lose... but I've heard boxers say that.
If I was to argue that Tai Chi would work in a fight I would make the case for touch sensitivity in a similar way to silat or wing chun. Where learning to feel what your opponent is going to do next by keeping contact and sticking to them is an advantage that a boxer might not have to the same degree.
I don't think fighting on the gap works for Tai Chi and you are just better off using another style for that.

Need footage of you actually doing it in combat like ring or cage, otherwise it is just conjecture or wishful thinking.
